The NBA and Adam Silver are hypocrites. They only care about view count and money so they urge the teams not to tank. Well then if they don't tank and stay the same, how the fuck are they gonna compete against superteams like Golden State? Even if a team barely makes the playoffs as the 8th seed, I would rather be the team that's tanking because the 8th seed won't have a high draft pick, and they have almost 0 chance at a championship. So what's the point in making the playoffs then? If you want to get good players to battle against these superteams that are being built, tanking should be the #1 option for any team that's under 6th seed. The NBA is trying to force teams to not tank because they don't want them to get better so that the big market teams can advance to the Finals every time and get higher ratings for the league. The league itself is a major business that Adam Silver uses to make profit from. Pathetic.

Look at the league today, we have GSW as the monster, but we have plenty of talent league wise: 76'ers, Lakers, Celtics, Raptors, Bucks, Rockets and Nuggets. All teams built by smart GM moves and pearl finding deep into the draft (Jokic, Kawhi, Siakan, Kuzma, Giannis and so on). The Process hasn’t shown anything yet, they could be overshadowed by the Celtics who rebuilt the right way by doing it while still trying to remain competitive. Tanking doesn’t work as much in the NBA because fans get upset quick and the GM is the first to go.
@gorb37906 жыл бұрын
But you must admit that Ainge got a lot more to work with comparing to Hinkie. Ainge got two aged super-stars who can still put up decent numbers, and probably one of the best floor generals in the NBA when Celtics started to rebuild. Hinkie got Iggy, who everybody knows can't be a franchise player; Jrue Holiday, who wasn't even at star back then, and pretty much nothing else. Plus, in the sense of franchises. Celtics as a historically dominant franchise, has a lot more connections comparing to 76ers. For example, Kevin Garnett would've not be in Boston in 2008 if Kevin McHale, a Celtics legend, wasn't Timberwolves' GM. I can't recall this very clearly, but Celtics for sure wasn't the only trade option for Garnett back in days, and probably not the best one either.
@GOHST13ly6 жыл бұрын
Joey Paglia you give Ainge too much credit. He got lucky with the Brooklyn trade. He was dealing with a desperate GM who only wanted to please his new billionaire boss. What are you going to do when your team falls into mediocrity? The logical thing to do is draft and develop stars, as you cant attract free agents. Unless your market is way to small to do this (Memphis), it is idiotic to sign mediocre players to huge contracts. Rookies even have small contracts, so even if they fucked up, their salary would inherently be fine.
@catman-du89274 жыл бұрын
@@finlayson6868 You need a great player to win a championship. Making the playoffs year after year to lose in the 2nd round isn't the goal (just ask Hawks fans who made the playoffs for 10 straight years from '08 to '17 but only made it to the conference finals once...where they lost). The Spurs tanked to get Robinson and did it again to get Duncan. The Raptors got lucky that Kawhi wanted out of SA. Without that trade they most likely wouldn't have gotten past the 76ers or Bucks in the 2019 playoffs. The Celtics had the same luck with the KD trade when he forced himself out of Minnesota (they also got really lucky with that KD-Nets trade). Not every team can get lucky with those trades cause not enough teams will trade amazing players. You usually need to draft a star or get really lucky with player development. Remember Giannis was pretty crappy his first two years while Kawhi was barely league average after his first 2 years (he had a 13-6-2 in his 3rd year though with great D)
@catman-du89274 жыл бұрын
@@finlayson6868 But they are higher near the top of the lottery. Since 2000 the best player on the championship team was drafted #1, #1, #1 (all Shaq), #1 (Duncan), #3 (Billups), #1 (Duncan), #1 or #5 (Shaq or Wade), #1 (Duncan), #5 or #10 (KG or Pierce), #13, #13 (both Kobe), #9 (Dirk), #1, #1 (both LeBron), #1 or #15 (Duncan or Kawhi), #7 (Curry), #1 (LeBron), #2 or #7 for two straight years (Durant or Curry), and #15 (Kawhi). The only pick outside the lottery was Kawhi & he was drafted the next pick after the lottery (If we assume Giannis would have won this year he was drafted #15 as well, juuuust outside the lottery). Of course you can find key players later on but you'd have to go back to the 1979 SuperSonics to find a best player on a championship team drafted below #15 (Gus Williams was probably their best player that season who was drafted at #20 overall). To your other point about losing having an effect, I'd love to see a source for that. In Fultz's rookie year the 76ers won 50 games and made it to the 2nd round yet it wasn't until this year when he was on a below .500 Magic team that he started to actually seem like a possible NBA player. The only reason MCW looked any good was because he was playing 35 minutes a game as a tall PG on a crap team so his counting stats looked good but a 17.5-6.5-6.5 on 16 shots a game (40% FG%) is pretty average. MCW won more games than Giannis did in his rookie year (same draft class) because the Bucks were also tanking for Wiggins but that didn't hurt Giannis's development. Darko was drafted #2 and went right onto a team that went to 2 straight finals (winning one) & yet he turned out horrible. Evan Turner was a #2 pick who played his first 2 seasons as a key role player on playoff bound 76er teams and yet he never developed into anything. Sometimes players just can't get it done at the pro level. That's why getting the most possible chances at the best players is key. Sooner or later one of the top #5 picks will hit and your many other later picks will turn into either earlier picks (through trades) or develop into usable players (sometimes the rare superstar). Once that happens you can truly compete for championships

Ryan Harkins Yeah okay. Your front office booted him out and has made nothing but bad decisions. Hinkie was overrated anyway. Everybody acts like he's this genius when really, he's only hit on 2/5 lottery picks and got Saric, after how many bad years? All that losing and throwing whole seasons you still only got 2.5 good players, both of whom were "cant miss" prospects. And even once you got them, Embiid sat out for like 2.5 years, Ben for 1, and he may just be the next MCW, with a broken jumper and a very "some parts required" game. Then you trade picks with Boston, get ANOTHER 1st overall just to find out he's a bust and Boston got a star who ends up leading them to s gentleman's sweep over your team while Fultz sits out 😂😂😂. Then, you finally draft another stud hometown kid, but quickly trade him for yet another bust with a broken jumper, and let all your shooters who won you A single game against Boston, walk in FA, miss on acquiring a star and take a step back. This organization subjected its fans to over a decade of being terrible, with no actual contending team since AI. Then the worst stretch this side of Sacramento, just to win 5 playoff games. You guys are absolute trash. Embiid will have a short career and "Brokeshot" Ben doesnt get along with him. Boston got stronger, has 2 studs plus 3 All Stars and 3 more lottery picks coming. Yal should take notes on how to rebuild. What, 1-2 bad years where we still were just outside the playoffs? Then we've been in the ECF the past 2 while we were rebuilding? Still rebuilding while we contend as the East favorite? While you guys ended your rebuild a year too short and will never win anything, being passed by Milwaukee, Indy, Toronto and NYK.

I've been a Warrior fan since 2003 and I've seen the bad lineups, the 20 win seasons, the trades that send away the team's best player, the injuries, the "we'll be good next year", the brief success, and then the subsequent break down of the teams that brought the mild success. Then I saw the breakout season with a potential, homegrown superstar, the playoff berths for the first time in 5-20 odd years, the first round exits, then the homegrown superstar MVP, the Championships, the heart break of losing a 7th game in the finals at home, to a dynasty. I can say for certain, in the days of super teams and the win now mode of some teams, Philly has the most potential to be the next dynasty for the next decade after the Warriors because they made an effort to build a solid foundation instead of throwing a poor attempt at a super team together. For what it's worth, I give my props to Philly for building a beast.

I love how you add bits from the "specialized media" all being reactionary turds, seeing Stephen A Smith praising colangelo was hilarious. Hinkie literally a martyr on 76ers history.

IMO if hinkie wasn’t forced out the Sixers would have won a title by now
@macewbee4 жыл бұрын
True also if they kept J.J. and jimmy and a better coach they could have won a title.
@broadstreet213 жыл бұрын
Not really. Hinkie was a great revolutionary, like a demolition agent, but not a builder. He can draft talent, but it takes a different guy to assemble it and make it work. Like a Jerry Krause.

thank you for this video. Sam Hinkie played NBA 2K and shows me that pick hunting doesnt work if you have bad scout reports and no plan what do you want to play. Hope they try new things after embiid is gone.

I’m not crying you are. This video makes me emotional as I’m a near 16 year old Sixers fan who finally watched good Sixers ball this past season. I started paying close attention to the Sixers in 2011-2012 season! Iggy, Lou, Thad, Turner, Hawes, Jrue were the crew, but nothing more than an 8 seed. The playoffs were exciting and yes we lost to old men pierce and Garnett, but we weren’t worthy of the Heat ass whooping any ways. The Bynum trade was questionable (He was a loser anyways) and then the underachieving 12-13 bunch plus Doug Collins lack of desire to coach led to Sam Hinkie + Brett Brown. I was a believer on day 1 that these two men would create a superior team and contender. I was 9 years old when I started to closely follow Sixers ball. The rebuild was torturous on many many levels. And now here we are 5 YEARS LATER, and the Philadelphia 76ers are a contending team with Brett Brown as coach and GM. Sam Hinkie died for success of the franchise. Between 4th and 8th grade, I watched not only a rebuilding team, but a team with hope. God bless Brett Brown and God bless Sam Hinkie!

I was a Sixers fan back when Allen Iverson was there. AI was the main reason why I watched/played Basketball & was/kinda still am a Sixers fan. Once they traded him to Denver back in 2006, I didn't follow/root for them as much, but I still liked the players they had at the time post AI. Andre Miller, Iggy, Dalembert, Lou Williams, Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner, etc. It seems like all of the players that I like both growing up as a kid & now as an adult all started with/were drafted by the 76ers. Iggy, Dalembert, Larry Hughes, Kyle Korver, Lou Williams, Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner, Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid, Nikola Vucevic, Ben Simmons & most recently Matisse Thybulle. Idk if that makes me a diehard, hardcore Sixers fan because I grew up watching them as a kid way back when they AI, Derrick Coleman, Tim Thomas, Rookie Larry Hughes, Theo Ratliff & Nazr Mohammed & only rooted for them solely because of AI. However, the team always selects players that I like from then til now, so I guess I'm kind of a fan maybe? IDK?
