Preach, Dean! FilAm here. I was born in Bicol but was raised in the US. I brought my African American partner to visit my family there earlier this year and he absolutely loved it, especially because my cousins were so incredibly warm and welcoming. His family freaked out and called him all the time because they were stuck on some of the stereotypes you discussed. My dude has been all over Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia during his past trips but no one tripped about his travels there. Thanks for addressing all these stereotypes perpetuated by people who've never been there!

DAaaaaammmMNnnn! Wow, all your reactions are so real and true. I'm originally from Dipolog City, province of Zamboanga del Norte, but currently residing in Cebu City, Cebu because of the nature of my job. I've been there many times in Iligan City too, it is a nice place and awesome people. I have many closed friends living there. Thank you so much for emphasizing that when we say "Mindanao" a lot of misconceptions that it is a dangerous place, your video is such a great help to stop that stigma and change other's mentality. Stay awesome Dean. 🥰😍😘

All we eat is fish & rice 😳. I went to America & after a few days I was already missing Filipino food. Cereal , donuts , muffins etc for breakfast 😳. Sandwich for lunch? Those are snacks in the Philippines. Why do Americans not eat fish often…because it’s soooo expensive & thawed from the frozen state. In the Philippines fish/seafood is so fresh!

Clarification. The National language of the Philippines is Filipino, which should not be confused with Tagalog. Filipino is mostly derived from Tagalog, with english and spanish influences, so it gets confused a lot. Tagalog is the language used in the Tagalog Region which is in southern Luzon where Manila is. English is considered the secondary language of the Philippines and is the main language of instruction, which means labels, warnings, manuals are written in english. This is also why you don't usually see Filipino language in appliances that has a manual translated in multiple languages. Now a lot of people don't know this, but Tagalog has slowly merged into Filipino. Example of differences between tagalog and filipino. The tagalog word room is "silid", while the filipino word for it is "kwarto". Kwarto is derived from the spanish word Cuarto which means the same thing. "Silid-aralan" in tagalog, but in Filipino, it's "Klasrum" from the word "Classroom". Book is called "Aklat" in tagalog, but in Filipino it's called "Libro" which is also the spanish word for book. Almost nobody uses the words, silid, silid-aralan or aklat anymore especially outside tagalog region. I come from the Northern part of the Philippines where we mostly speak Ilocano. While I still understand pure Tagalog, there are few words that sometimes confuses me when talking to my friends from the Tagalog region. I have to ask them say the Filipino term or even English term so I can understand it.

You're spot on with your assessment. Most Filipinos and I say most, are God fearing in this predominantly Roman Catholic country and are respectful to each other. Criminality and lawlessness is frowned upon and is not tolerated by vast majority in this society. Children are conditioned from childhood to respect authority. That is my observation living here as an American.

I have much more to learn but I love the Philippines. My girl never lead me wrong. Her family so amazed because I eat what they eat and accept them for them. Love how you keep using their language. Sometimes it is hard to keep up with them learning their ways. They are always excited to teach their ways

The education system is much better and my wife is better than I deserve. We will also be building a sari sari store when we get there. Stay real. My wife says English is the business language and Tagalog is the largest spoken. Filipino and English are both official languages.

I am also Black American Man and been residing here in Manila now for (21) years. I have personal real life experience in this country related to the various topics mentioned in this video. Yes, you are correct the Official language is tagalog/Filipino and yet vast majority of Filipinos regardless of Region can effectively communicate in English. Job well done on debunking the exaggerations and lies.

When I was moving here, my dad says"what you going to eat there?" I said whatever I want.😂 I met my wife online 18 years ago. She never asked for money, in fact she refused when I offered. She said she couldn't accept money unless we were married. Well, that was 2006 and we're still here.😁 Actually, English missed by a couple of votes some years ago of being thee official language. But both Tagalog and English are considered official languages.

I was so surprised when I found the place so nice and the people were also very kind. The people there were the mix of ilocano and muslim maguindanaon. what I thought of the place was a big mistake. Just visit cotabato and maguindanao, they are a safe place.

Preach Brother 😤👏🍻 Education in the Philippines is top priority of every family. And not only Private Schools that was good but some Public Schools too. I know that one of the Public School in a Province was the currently the top rank. And also their are three types of educational School here, Public, Private and Private International School (that one was super expensive). I went to two, amd I was planning for International Private School here in Manila because of Languages Classes they offer but it was so expensive that I feel my parents would sell their kidney to pay for one year 😅😂🤣

The US State Dept classified Mindanao at a Level 3 many years ago. Which means they cant help you should you get into trouble. Just recently they reclassified Mindanao as a Level 2 program which means its much safer there and the US Govt will support you there. The Marawi war is over so get over the safety issue. The CPP/NPA are all over the philippines. If you went to any province you may have sat and had a beer with them and never know it. So just remember the people here are all nice until you disrespect them, with that being said enjoy and respect their culture and you wont have any problems. Have a nice day!

Re national language, the national language is Filipino (basis is Section 6, Article XIV of the 1987 Philippine Constitution). The Filipino language is mainly Tagalog but it also incorporates words from other Filipino languages and words borrowed from Spanish, Chinese and Malay. This is because the framers of the Constitution did not want to exclude other Filipinos who do not speak Tagalog so they decided to name 'Filipino' as the national language. For purposes of communication and instruction, the official languages are Filipino and English (basis is Section 7, Article XIV of the Phil Constitution). Hope this clarifies!

Yeah deammmm . I agree with you bruder. Yes a decade ago and to be precise since 1970s until 2016 the Philippines far south provinces especially those with great muslim populations are really scary because of killings, shootings and kidnappings . But since 2016 until when Duterti become president most of those bad elements had either surrendered but mostly died because of the relentless anti criminality operations and the muslim secessionist had signed a peace agreement last 2018. Since then there was no more reports of mass killings. Mass shootings and kidnappings until today.

Official language is Tagalog/Filipino and English. English speakers are usually more prevalent in areas frequented by foreigners and schools and businesses. Everyone understands English and fluency is depending on how often they speak it.

Disclaimer on the lunch. Being closed during lunch is not true with big cities like MetroManila. Offices here in Manila especially in banks where we dont close for lunch. Most of what Dean is talking anout is based on his lifestyle in their province and island. The islands in the Philippines are different and independent of each other. But about us being friendly, hardworking, family-oriented and respectful is true all over the Philippines. Dean is right that Tagalog or Pilipino is our official language. English is our 2nd language. All our signs and education instructions in school ,etc. are mostly in English.

About lunch is okay, but it feels so hard to find a 24H drugstore/pharmacy... last year it was around 2am I was feeling unwell and tried to find one around Makati, all of them were closed (in my hometown even it's not a big city we can still find many 24h drugstores)... Shopping malls also close early, so even if it officially says close at 9:00pm, 8:20 the stores are closing and restaurants will not serve you

Every time I go home fish is the number food I want to eat. I love going to the wet market and buy the fresh fish. I know it’s stinky but it’s heaven for me, and my husband loves it too. Colorado don’t have a fresh fish it’s always frozen.

i love your videos, just straight facts. It brokes my heart that visitor from other country came here to enjoy the Philippines however they we're scammed. I just want to extend my sincere apologies for them. Please do note, every where in the world there are bad people including here in the Philippines and I agree with kababayan Dean, Most people here are good people but still be cautious when travelling as there are bad people everywhere. I suggest knocking at houses and ask for directions as it is more safe to ask directions from the people who lives in that area. love from Cebu ❤ (Knocking at people houses here in PH is okay as long as you have no bad intentions and we are willing to help and some provides more information for you to be safe when travelling, they will not get angry or annoyed.)

Dean, to be correct what do you think? Tagalog is our national language and English is our official language...You will notice that when you fill up some form in Government establishments...ex. when you apply for your driver's license the form is written in English...

@chrislaveen543 I know the culture. I've been going to the Philippines every year since 2010. My wife is pinay ( filipina) we also have a house here too. We have a son also. Most of the stuff Dean talks about is true, but the school stuff I disagree with. I'm here in the Filipinas ( Philippines) right now.

If you want a good and honest Filipina, find her in the right place, in their homes in the Philippines. Know their parents first before you dive into a relationship. There are many Pinays who are worth loving and become a responsible, loving and honest wives.
