It will depend on the weight of your vehicle, but there are certain parts of the DQF you will need to keep. Many carriers choose to just follow the same DQF requirements even if all the documents are not necessarily required.

Ricky, great question. For newly employed drivers the 3-year MVR should satisfy both the annual MVR and the 3-year MVR. However, every year you will need to request an MVR for each driver you employ to continually satisfy both of those requirements. We know it's complicated. Is there a specific order this information needs to be obtained upon employment? Also if I have a buddy that has a legal CDL and med cert, can he drive my truck even though he is not an employee?

There isn’t a specific order that each DQF requirement needs to be completed in, think of it as more of checklist. Make sure you have all the required documents included before anyone starts driving under your authority or as an employee. Your next question is a little more complicated. Using your equipment rather than their own is a factor that can classify someone as an employee rather than an independent contractor. But in either case, they’ll still need a DQF. To make sure you’re compliant, we’d suggest giving your local Secretary of State a call and ask them what qualifies someone as an employee or independent contractor. Thanks for watching!
