From 1997 to 2000 there was also a horror anthology show called The Hunger. David Bowie hosted the second season and starred in one of the episodes.

Back in the late 1990s, the Walmart/K-Mart 5.99 VHS bargain bins were a goldmine for finding these early 80s films! Later by the early 2000s, DVD's would have 3 (low-budget, so bad its good) movies in one for 10.99! Damn, I really miss that era.

The Deadly Spawn is one of my favourite horror movies, I loved it as a kid and I still love it now. It's insane how good the creature and gore effects are for a movie shot on an absolute shoestring, it outdoes a lot of the naff horror flicks we get these days. I'd love a remake of this, as long as they kept the creature design, gore and theme tune. It blows my mind that Hollywood keeps remaking and rehashing loads and loads of already well known movies and yet unknown gems like this are staring them right in the face and they never touch them. I've always said since I was a teenager, if I ever won the lottery or came into money, I'd buy the rights to and remake this film, I get another chance tomorrow night with my 2 weekly lotto lines so fingers crossed :)

I'm a huge fan of The Deadly Spawn as well, since the 80's when I use to rent it quite often on VHS! To me it's the same kind of low budget DIY passion project as Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead, Peter Jackson's Bad Taste, or even Frank Henenlotter's Basket Case and Don Coscarelli's Phantasm, yet I never understood why it didn't launch the career of its director, unlike all the movies I listed just before... :/ Does anyone have an answer? It's such a waste. Oh, and great vid btw, as usual. :) Cheers from France!
