Been about 20 years since I’ve been to Sturges. Biggest change to me is the crowd has gotten older, fatter, and uglier. Could be the same folks when I was last there.

Young people have not been going outside for the last 30 years or so . Riding motorcycles is an outdoor activity. For this reason, motorcycle riding and most other outdoor activities are shrinking every year . In the 70s, I was a USFS fire prevention technician/ patrolman. My patrol district had 5 large camp grounds, now it has one. The Sierra club is definitely responsible for a lot of that decline. Triggered by closing trails to motorcycles in favor of nonexistent hickers. I know how many of each was around because it was my job to know who was in the area at all times.

Nah, young people that are going outside don't go to rallies like this. To them, they're just tourist traps for old, racist white people. Also, shit is expensive, now, and young people have less disposable income than ever. They can't just buy the new Harley and ride to Sturgis.

Did you even bring a bike? I was there from Aug. 2nd to Aug. 8th. this year. I was shocked by how heavy the majority of the people were. The riding was great. Badlands, Needles, Spear Fish Canyon. Custer to name a few. We rode there and back. I was disappointed in Sturgis City. Bad food, all the vendors selling the same low-quality crap. The bike demos were the best part of Sturgis. Black Hills Harley Davidson in Rapid City was great.

So much grey hair. It wasn’t that way decades ago. Seems like it’s the same folks who have just aged and few younger folks interested in bikes? What was the attendance this year. Maybe this is video was shot “early” but the crowds seem quite sparse. Seems to me that the town of Sturgis should be actively trying to figure out how to get the 20-30-ish crowd to come en masse. If they don’t, Sturgis will die in 20-years when the attendees age out.

Just under 600k attendance. Great time, 50, not fat, don't have a belly, rode 2012 Electraglide 1100 miles each way alone, wife said go, it's all good! I must be rare one! It was a great time, stayed in Deadwood.

I guess the dentists, doctors, and lawyers who were living their second childhood in 2015 have sold the Harley and moved on. 75% of the folks in the video look to be on Social Security. Sturgis and Harley Davidson have a real problem: the same problem Cadillac had when suddenly the brand name became associated with "what once was" and was no longer relevant.
