How can your argument against Asuka be that he is too easy to use? Of course he is super oppressive and that can be frustrating but that comes after a lot of effort and practice on the opponents hand. When an asuka is beating my shit I don't think "cheap shit", I mostly am impressed and if something slightly disheartened. The only issue I see with him is the same as most of the new season pass chars, it seems like you have to know the enemies characters better than them. I know, "learn the matchup" is important, but I don't think that should mean memorizing the frame data of all the moves in a character you don't even want to play, just because you will be actually trapped forever if you don't, because the game doesn't attempt to show crearly the weaknesses and gaps in a character string (try telling me that mashing p in *that* little gap of Elphelt rekka seems intuitive)

i have bounced around from character to character a lot but since s3 i mostly played i-no, goldlewis, nago and elphelt most of whom do pretty well or are at least even into asuka but i have played against a moderate amount of asuka but most of them were pre s3.5 with only about 45-50 matches against asuka since so i'm not the leading authority on asuka by any means. the short answer is i used to dislike the asuka match but not hate it pre season 3.5 but have since begun to feel a lot better about it especially after the most recent patch in general with wa not giving hard knockdown on wall break. i felt like one of the worst things about the match before was if he got hard knockdown off a wallbreak and could start spamming spells before you could get up and save/use meter both for mana and the super that lets him pull exodia more consistently. i see a lot more people using his projectile super now as it is a v good defensive tool. back then the game was in a state where neutral felt awkward to play on both ends where it was use wwa to cheese your way in or sit in a long sometimes fake blockstring until he eventually opens you up esp due to the snowballing. lately i have been playing a lot more neutral against all characters and have thus learned to deal with some of his cubes better. if i had to name things i dislike about him, i would say the teleport is annoying and the clutter of cubes with some staffs when he does a dust. maybe also hp when getting in on him can be difficult for some characters. i am a bit privileged when dealing with his cubes due to my preferred characters. overall i would say i like him significantly more than i dislike him right now.

Asuka is a character you can hate to play against but Asuka has genuinely such a high skill level req that I can't help but respect them. The only way I can describe top Asuka players is they strategically button mash but I'm sure it's a lot more than that. Respect to the Asuka players that are able to do the things that I can't do 👍

Asuka, oh asuka. I hate how boring the game can be when he plays. It's like fighting a Gio, it's not the worst thing you could fighting (i could be fighting a spamming nago), but I'd really rather play the game and fight almost anyone else. However, when you find a Asuka who's fun to play against, it's really fun. Exhausting, but fun.

I consider Asuka to be my secondary and I know why he's seen as busted/broken/op. His gameplan is luck based, with the odds noticeably weighed in his favor. And I get how that's frustrating. If he gets his win condition its hard to take back the round- I have to say that watching and playing him that way is boring to me which is why I play him differently and also the reason why I think he needs changes. Most of Zando's and Gobou's matches (I don't watch other Asuka players but I think I can safely assume that most people play him that way) have similar processes going on, they play their spells until win condition. I have never seen them stay on test case 1 or switch to test case 2, which I enjoy using. They might not be optimal, but they're more fun than TC 3. TC 3 has the best spells with the staffs, teleport and the cube walls which are insanely hard to counter when compared to other cubes. I think a good way of changing the effectiveness of TC 3 would be to change how many copies of certain spells are present in the TC to make them less frequent. I suppose they could inflate the TC with more utility spells or change the spell distribution altogether. By that I mean putting certain kinds of spells into specific cases, for example keeping the staffs in their respective cases, but having a TC dedicated to high projectile counts exclusively, another one for mana management and the third for hand management (deleting/importing cards into the hand) and put the "standard spells" like yellow, green, blue, rainbow, and the high/low mixup spells into the TCs with set quantities. This would force players to switch between TCs depending on the situation rather than giving them multiple offensive approaches as is the case right now. It would also make it easier for opponents to manage what spells Asuka could pull and help them prepare for a certain offense. Other than that, the mana cost of his most powerful tools and spells should be noticeably increased, specifically the projectile walls, staffs and teleports. And lastly, I feel like emptying a TC has no consequences currently. Having to manually input a move to refresh the TC's capacity with a rather long animation would restrict the spell spam and probably turn off some players, but currently he needs to be a little bit restricted because his freedoms like infinite spell spam and a win condition in a single TC is both boring and unfair towards the opponent. As for his normals, I think some frame data adjustments would do. Sorry for the unorganized mess, its midnight and I can't be bothered to put formatting effort into a YT comment. This is just a list of changes I feel are legitimate, feel free to add/change some aspects if you feel like I missed or misjudged something. This was my Asuka ramble, thanks for reading.

I think Asuka is in an interesting spot where they can switch which cases have which spells. I think switching mana regen with instant mana would lower the speed of tc3 while buffing tc2. I can't speak to how balanced this would be. but since autoimport and mana regen are so good together, it would force players to switch test cases more often.

I am very upset with myself whenever I do it and dunno why it tilts me more than others when I lose neutral. Ragequits happen to the best of us at one point or another, I appreciate that you're so open about it. What helped me have a lot more fun in GG is playing mainly to improve, I don't really care much whether I win or lose, as long as I get something out of it, a good way to achieve this is by going into the session with a setup you want to work on / hit in mind!

oh hey that's me at 1:45 LMAOOOO glad to see people agreeing with the take, it's incredibly disheartening to see people treat slayer players like that, or any other main of a high tier for that matter, ESPECIALLY if it's aimed at people who just like how the character plays, ain't my fault slayer's K Mappa is plus on block from full screen makes my five celestial attempts in one night feel really damn pointless and like it isn't really an accomplishment, even though i know it is one i really hope this mentality towards high tiers changes, because it feels like so many people don't actually want to get better but would rather complain and blame something else for their losses
@Jarubimba
@Jarubimba 6 күн бұрын
I can understand why some people would diminish the players' efforts based on the character, considering the Leroy's incident in TK7. However, I think that case feels more like a exception. There'll be times where a character is giga broken and people may abuse it, but shifting the blame to the players feels really unfair
@GGSTFraudGameplay

Your tweet was pure truth, I couldn't agree with it more. The best part about people aiming their hate at the players is that if the character actually gets nerfed into the ground they'll still lose it because they never bothered to learn it. The players I showcase are specifically not from WC but thank you for spreading awareness about the WC playerbase issues. It's just that most WC people chose to play in EC since it's more populated and shouldn't result in any connection issues especially since rollback is a staple now.

So, I had a theory regarding the reactions, rationale, and disposition of those in the GGST High Level Gameplay comment section when a video/set featuring Asuka is posted - which may apply to other footage featuring Asuka gameplay (**Long Post Warning**): I have worked on this "experiment" in my free time for over a year, and I have discovered that there is a preconceived opinion encircling Gobou's Asuka in particular. Now, no disrespect to other Asuka users - they are skilled within their own regions and work hard with the character, but this must be said; I noticed there would be a video uploaded on that channel about a day before/after, with the very same characters as in the replay featuring Gobou's Asuka, but with different players - both from NA, and the opposing character was the dominator in those matches; and in the comments section for those particular video(s), there were very few, if any, negative comments regarding Asuka/or the player. That leads me to my next statement, when people watched Gobou perform with Asuka on a level beyond any other Asuka user - the complaints came flowing in, much like water releases in a dam. For those who believe that Gobou playing "Solitaire" with Asuka is cheating/unfair/unskilled, then I regret to inform you that if it were easy to operate Asuka on Gobou's level - all players from every region would be doing the exact same thing he does without a second thought - and this would even attract players of other fighting games - just as characters like Chaos have. With this information, I have finally found the answer I've been pondering for so long - the mindset of many GGST players who strongly dislike Asuka -- people won't necessarily say much when they see Asuka/players underperforming or achieving a limited amount of success; however, when they witness a player utilizing and pushing this character to its limits, beyond anything executed by any other Celestial player to this day - there is nothing but discord...... people going far enough to attempt to discredit Zando's recent success with Asuka is proof of that - because nobody was saying anything until Zando began to see positive tournament results using Asuka. Additionally, with this information collected from a fairly large sample size (100s of comments), I find it interesting that the general consensus of those who watch GGST videos/streams is, *"Asuka is tolerable as long as the player is not achieving much - or is not a threat"* - but when the converse is true, then there is most definitely a problem. I am grateful to those who involuntarily became a part of my analysis and, therefore, proved my hypothesis. I am also very curious about what conclusions GGST: Fraud Gameplay comes to in regard to all of the Asuka discord surrounding the character. Finally, I feel that it is worth noting that Gobou dropped Asuka until the next balance patch - so if Asuka were as broken as some people believe he is, then Gobou would never have used A.B.A to win ArcRevo this year -- I have translated a Discord call with FAB, Jiro, and Gobou, and below is an excerpt as of why he decided to quit using Asuka (this discussion is posted on FAB's channel): *Gobou:* *"Asuka/Johnny is..."* ー *"Insanely difficult"* (He is referring to the current patch) *FAB:* *"And now he's even more annoying because they made him stronger."* *"Gobou:"* *"Ugh, impossible"* *FAB:* *Ehh, impossible? Tougher than Bridget?* *Gobou:* *"Bridget is"* ー *"If you work hard, you'll be successful"* ー *"Johnny, nothing matters"* ー *"I can't put Mist Finer at risk"* ー *"Specifically"* ー *"Asuka as a Shooting Character is unable to function"* ( _Due to the way Gobou plays "Solitaire" with Case 3 Asuka, Gobou considers Asuka's character archetype to be that of a Shooting Character_ ) ー *"Asuka's disadvantageous character is that kind of character"* ( _This sentence was a bit hard to translate into English properly, due to the fact that the meaning of "そういう" changes depending on the context; but Gobou is stating that there are fundamental flaws with Asuka's character concept at the character archetype level_ ) ー *"That loses all functionality as a shooting character"* ( _This is why Asuka has some of the hardest match-ups in the game, because some characters have the ability to invalidate his entire kit_ ) ー *"I entered this quite a while ago"* ( _He is talking about the GGCL/Team FAB, but this statement is very important considering what he is going to say next_ ) ー "When the cube speed was slowed down/weakened, the adjustments were -- "* ー *"Quite a fatal blow..."* ( _Here, Gobou is declaring that what he once considered minor nerfs to Asuka, were actually severe nerfs to Asuka_ ) ー *"In a disadvantageous character battle"* ( _He is talking about characters that Asuka loses to_ ) ー *"With that adjustment"* ー *"There were quite a few combinations that became even more impossible"* ( _Asia players typically use "無理" [muri] for insanely difficult match-ups_ ) ー *"The opponents in this team battle"* ー *"I-No, Faust, and so forth"* ー *"It seems like no matter how many cubes you throw, they all get destroyed"* ー *"If they're just getting destroyed, it's not that bad"* ー *"As it is now, Asuka gets hit and receives damage"* ー *"From medium and long distance"* ー *"Ugh, I Can't Do This Anymore!* I found this part of the discussion quite sad, as I am a fan of Gobou's Asuka gameplay... but I respect his decisions as a competitor. In conclusion, Asuka is still a strong, tournament-viable character, in my opinion; and I can understand people not wanting to fight the character; but those who do nothing but complain about the character and devalue the Asuka player's accomplishments need to place themselves in the disposition of the Asuka player - with the Asuka user risking everything if they make a single mistake, or leave gaps within their pressure - playing the character at a high level is much more difficult and stressful than what meets the eye. A common misconception I hear regarding Asuka, is that the character "essentially plays itself" - and that could not be farther from the truth... My apologies about the lengthy post, but for those who managed to read until the very end, I appreciate you.

What I love about Asuka is that out of all different characters, he just seems like he actually rewards the skill the most. I mean, I play Ky and definitely don't have enough brainpower or awareness to do anything CLOSE to what those incredible grinders can pull on this rng heavy character. He genuinely looks and feels hard to play (because he is), and he is rewarded for that. When you fight a good Asuka, you by law can't call them "braindead" and if you manage to get through walls and walls of cubes and punish it or get a good read on teleport mix up attempt, it's the best feeling ever.
