Medusa is the MOST tragic figure in Greek Mythology, she wouldn’t even be on this list if Athena and Poseidon weren’t such A-Holes Smh 🤦♂️
@fawfulmark23 жыл бұрын
Only in the Ovid myth was Athena cruel to her, same with the Arachne story(also done by Ovid). And honestly speaking Ovid wrote Greek characters much like how Garth Ennis writes superhero comics.

Gorgons didn’t have snake tails, that was 1981’s Clash of the Titans version that was so popular now everyone thinks that’s how the creatures always were. In an 95’s cartoon of Hercules I saw shows Cerberus with a scorpion’s tail and dozens of snakes on his back.

Since Medusa was the only Gorgon able to be slain (to my knowledge), would that make her the weakest ?

Wasn't she the only one able to turn others to stone though making here deadlier

Its weird, there's stories where medusa was a Gorgon, with sisters, other stories where a woman was turned into medusa because of her beauty and probably a relationship with Zeus ...
@NohrScum3 жыл бұрын
I guess there isnt really a clear answer. Though I find it peculiar that medusa is the only one that could die, yet her head still possesses some of her power/curse. It almost would have made more sense the other way around.
@douglasphillips58703 жыл бұрын
It depends on the story. Sometimes the agis is said to be made from another slain gorgon
@leonalushi34293 жыл бұрын
If we don't go by Ovid's tradition having Medusa as a beautiful maid transformed into a hideous gorgon, other traditions have Medusa and her two other sisters - Stheno and Euryale - as gorgons from birth. Medusa was mortal, whereas Stheno and Euryale were immortal. So the other two sisters were far more powerful than Medusa.

A really interesting topic to treat is the "Summer Day" on 14 march (1 March of the Julian calendar) which is a spring festival and pagan holiday celebrated widely in Albania. Is celebrated with little differences by city to city and basically is a tribute to Artemis/Diana.

Important thing: Cerberus is a term that may come from a proto-european roots, it doesent mean "flesh eater" or anything that drastic... it means "spotted". Basically, Hades named his pup "Spot" and it's adorable. Also, the third gorgon sister's name is "Stheno".

1:16 There have been reports of humanoids flying around in Mexico. A policeman was dispatched to the scene, and his squad car was attacked by the creature. What he described looks just like Siren. He said the creature had bird legs, but her upper body was of a woman. Not beautiful like that painting, but the creature's upper body was of a very old hag who resembled a witch in fairy tale stories. The flying humanoid was filmed multiple times, and its video is on KZbin somewhere, so is the policeman's interview.

What i always found interesting is,Greece and Rome share a lot of the mythical and folklore stuff,there's similarities in names too and military wise,this is of course because Rome conquered ancient Greece and borrowed a lot of their culture and twisted it to make it Roman but both of them actually borrow heavy from the Egyptian culture,Greece did the same with the Egyptian culture like Romans did with the Greece,borrow stuff and twist it a little.For example when you see a centaur in movies and stuff,you dont know if it's egyptian,greek or roman,greeks and romans obviously both had centaurs but egyptians had the Ipotane,the equivalent of a centaur.Same goes for a lot of the gods,Heracles being Greek,Hercules Roman and Heryshaf in Egypt,Amphitrite-Greek,Salacia-Roman,Hatmehit-Egyptian,Aphrodite-Greek,Venus-Roman,Hathor, Isis-Egyptian

You are talking about different translations - roman and latin - of a greek name, in english. I think is interesting that english in the only language that has this discussion - we work with 5 other languages and everywhere else people get that the name has been translated over and over and the translation does not change the character.
