6:58 If you're wondering why, you have to remember the 4-bore was designed as a black powder cartridge and modern rounds are loaded to mimic the pressure created by that black powder charge. The .950 JDJ was designed for smokeless powder, which is _three times_ more potent than black powder.
@mastergwaha8 ай бұрын
😮
@nextcaesargaming54698 ай бұрын
Smokeless powders are so energetic that even loads of equivalent power are unsafe in the same guns. The typical .45 colt cartridge in the 19th century was identical in power to .45 ACP, but .45 ACP is noticeably higher in pressure.
@monkmoto18878 ай бұрын
I mean yes and no. It’s kept within safe parameters for the chamber and cartridge, but it’s definitely about twice as hot as turn of the century black powder 4 bore
@me.ne.frego.8 ай бұрын
@@nextcaesargaming5469 .45 ACP case is much shorter so equal power loads will produce much more pressure. But the thing is, you need a LOT of black powder to get power and NO air space inside the casing, while with smokeless powders you load few grains and the free space inside the casing doesn't matter.
@nextcaesargaming54698 ай бұрын
@@me.ne.frego. This is true, and my point is much better illustrated by comparing apples to apples; .45 Colt with black powder and .45 Colt with smokeless powder. Even if both are loaded to achieve roughly 830 to 850 fps with a 240 grain bullet, the smokeless one will be unsafe to shoot in an old SAA. A modern SAA replica will eat smokeless cartridges for breakfast because of better metallurgy, but not a older generation revolver; it will eventually grenade itself.

Can we just take a minute and appreciate Scott for not only overcoming his injury but outright conquering what did it to him. It was weird rifles and rounds that nearly killed him, and here he is firing the biggest and baddest of them all and geeking out instead of freaking out. Hearing the pure excitement out of Scott’s voice when he fired the .950 JDJ proves that he doesn’t just enjoy making the videos, but he enjoys making the content the videos are focused on. which I think is something that many KZbinrs don’t have, and wish they did.

Of all the things that surprise me about you shooting these monster rifles as often as you do, what is absolutely astonishing to me is you don’t flinch or anticipate the recoil at all. Just totally calm, both eyes open and loose. As a (former) competitive shooter I’m beyond impressed. It took me years of training to be able to shoot a 308 out of a 12lb rifle and consistently just let it happen without anticipating the recoil and noise. Even now, 4-5 rounds from a hunting weight 300 win mag and I’m flinching like a complete novice. The win mag might be 30lbs of recoil? Amateur numbers I know. You’re an absolute unit to know it’s coming and just let it happen anyway. Hats off to you sir.

It is impressive, though he's also huge. Its the sound more than recoil I think that people recoil from. Grandad used to load our guns with our own loads. Well, as we shot, 1 shell wouldn't have any powder,, and we would recoil when pulling the trigger. That got us a verbal wholloping for being so weak and gun shy that we recoil when there wasn't a sound. It taught us better shooting discipline.
