This is the WRC wheel but with rubberised grips instead of Alcantara, for AU$100 less. I chose this as my 'starting' wheel to go with my CSL DD. I drive in VR, so this wheel is every wheel. So far, so good.

Thanks for the review, Mike! I'm not surprised that there aren't any reviews - I got it on BF as well, and it hasn't made its way to Montréal yet. You probably have one of the very very first units to get out in the wild ;) I was a bit dismayed at not being able to find any info on it as well, I wonder why the unit was removed from Fanatec's website rather than be out of stock with the price jacked up. Looks like a decent two-wheel option for people with a Formula/GT rim who just want a basic rally/Wreckfest/trucking option and don't want to shell out $299 for the (very very good) Clubsport RS.

I got this wheel with my clubsport years ago, it started falling apart after about a year. It's not meant for 8nm of torque. I'm left handed so more force is put on that side of the wheel. The screws on the backside holding the back plastic housing all the electronics to the front metal plate gave out separating the two halves eventually snapping a pin that plugs into the base. I then purchased the rally version, same thing happened in about the same timeframe.

I didn't like the shifters at all. Maybe I was spoiled from the carbon magnetic shifters on the rim I had before this. Couldn't really remember the Thrustmaster wheel I had before that as a comparison. I also replaced the stock shifters on my UH which I got later on, the stock ones IMO feel way too crap too for such an pricy product.

An automatic thumbs up simply for reviewing something that we less financially able racers are interested in. I have had an Elite XBox wheel for five years. The alcantara is worn out (even though I wear gloves, friction is still friction) and I am wondering if a more durable finish is a better option this time around since alcantara finishes can potential wear out within a few years even if never touched by human hands.

You can't buy it either. I have a WRC wheel, and it's fantastic. It's my favorite wheel, even beating out the McLaren I have. It (the P1 line of wheels) is an excellent wheel.

@Jean-Philippe Duplantis yes, and yes... Somewhat. I use rubber gripped work gloves when using the WRC wheel. So far I only had to brush the Alantara. The gloves do a great job at keeping my oily hands from damaging the wheel rim.

@@ertugrulbae46 It is. I never had something with a suede finish, so I cannot compare Alcantara against it. If it's more durable than suede, you'll have to differ to someone who used both materials. The BMW GT2 wheel is a replica. It better feel like a wheel pulled out of a race car. LOL. I'm only comparing the WRC rim to the McLaren rim. I like the WRC rim more. That's all.

This wheel is on backorder now and listed as available from mid-September. I’m getting one as I only have an F1 style wheel and would like a generic round wheel. This one looks like excellent value but it would have been nice to have something in the Fanatec range at around the 200 USD/EUR range as now you need to go up to 350 for a round wheel.

i think they released another one very similar to this, which is on sale now (at least in Australia) the only difference being the texture on the rim is nicer.

Miiike I know it's a detail and I hate backseating people but it's very important you need to always have your thumbs in when driving (Road at least) ! You will be so much more precise when using the correct technique (steering with the inside thumb) and allow you to drive higher FFB for more details too. Thumbs out is good for rally so you don't snap your wrists, but even cars with a LOT of steering movement you can keep the thumbs in (watch Leh Keen drive around Sebring in the SpeedConcept).

I got one as well. I'm happy with it. I think it's well built for it's price and durable. Buttons and shifters are all nice and don't feel cheap. Only downside it the QR1 lite of course but that's not specific to this wheel anyway. But at least it is upgradably when the QR2 finally launches. And to be honest I like this better than the BMW or WRC version. I race in VR so I'm not seeing the wheel anyway.

My problem with the P1 wheels are the shifters. The wheel it self feels ok, but after using the wheel for a few month the shifters feel worn out. Even the T300 wheel has better shifters than the P1 wheel … aside from that, if you don’t use the paddle shifter’s very often it’s a fantastic wheel for the money.

Good stuff, Mike! It's often the frugal options that are underserved, maybe because they aren't as "sexy" as the big ticket items. It's the same for the SHH shifter or the GTEYE replacement springs for the Logitech G25/27/29/920. Wrote a review on the latter, because there seems to be almost nothing on them. Welcome to the Frugalitarian club. You're now what we Germans call a Sparfuchs (a savings fox), because you got a good nose for good deals.

Mike, I picked this up a few months back and truthfully I haven't used it too much. The main reason is the qr1 lite collar slips ever so slightly and it resonates too much from the shaft through the wheel. I swapped a QR1 metal qr onto to test out if it help it. It does, however I am going to hold off on getting a QR1 Until they come out with Qr2 and then I'll update all my wheels. Love the size but its borderline thrustmasterish plastic wheel feeling. If I were to buy this again I wouldn't, I'd go for the upgraded Club Sport BWM wheel. Not the cheapo BWM wheel.

I actually took off the one that came with it because it was worse than one I had sitting in a box. Just takes away from the immersion. Price is real a plus and the LED is cool. Just not a show stopper. Keep up the awesome work.

@@SimRacing604 UPDATE June '24 - HOLY COW! I updated this wheel to a standard QR2, and its a complete KNOCKOUT!. It is my go-to wheel now. The CSL DD handles the weight beautifully, and the detail is amazing.

This wheel its just ok. Good for the price. The rubber compound they used for the grip just doesn't feel good. Would 100% prefer a leather wrap. My only complaint.

It’s mainly for a person who let’s friends and family use the wheel and not worry about scratching or damaging it without gloves lol unlike my leather one it would get scratched very easily so I only wear gloves using it.

I'm about to spring for the GT DD Pro bundle. This looks like it might be a nice, inexpensive alternate wheel for that package. If it worked on PS4/5, PC and Xbox like the GT DD Pro wheel, I'd buy this all day long. Duramold doesn't scare me off either. Nice review Mike. God bless and race on 👍😎🏁

PS5 and GT7? Hi Mike. Thanks for great review. The wheel is available again in the U.S., so your review is still highly relevant. I'm wondering if you have used this on PlayStation 4 or 5 and if so, what was your experience? Does it require button re-mapping? I've heard many negative things about the PS wheels that comes with the DD Pro and I'm curious if this is a good upgrade that keeps all of the key functions of the many buttons and switches that are on the standard PS wheel. If hope your community that have used the wheel, or similar. CSL wheel, with PlayStation while chime in with their thoughts and experiences. Also, I'm enjoying your podcast!

Hi Matthew! Thanks for tuning in to the podcast. As far as the experience on GT7, I have tried it, but I didn’t notice any major drawbacks. The licensed PS wheel that comes with the DD PRO is the best choice for GT7 in terms of functionality, but this P1 wheel might be a good choice for something like a rally game, where onboard adjustments aren’t common

Fanatec wants people to wait 3 months for their stuff. Which means resellers have a sausage fest buying up these items waiting for the items and then selling them on the spot in the online marketplace for only like a 300% markup. I've worked for companies who sell without supply. Hard to get paid when people are cancelling orders right and left cuz they get sick of waiting. I bought a pair of used csp pedals, paid over sticker price, and was happy to do it. Same with the thrustmaster wheel. I bought a return, not because I wanted a cheap wheel, only because I wanted a ps4 wheel and refused to wait around for them to deliver it new. O yeah this 99$ wheel. 259 bucks out of the box. Fast delivery lol.

I worked for a water machine company and we were licenced resellers and we sold like 50 of these things at about $1200 a pop. Running a booths at farmers markets and gun shows. What we were not told is the company was still negotiating their order with some chinese company. Having trouble getting their low volume order fulfilled. Finally China did send them about half of what they were owed in machines. Then stole their patented designs. We of course got nothing. Had to call every person we sold a machine to in order to explain to them there were no machines. Made things easier when we explained to them, we had to eat all the vendor fees we had been paying for the booths.

I bought the classic P1 2nd hand (new I believe was about €140 + ~€30 shipping, so no thanks) to have a round wheel mostly for Rally along side the F1 V2 APM. Got rid of it after only using it a couple of times, replaced it with UH + CPM (+ 280mm D-shaped rim / 320mm round rim) I personally didn't like it, felt cheap, mushy shifter pedals, pretty crappy attachment clamp that was useless without a bolt, etc. But it's a decent starter rim I guess. The lightness is pretty good for FFB on the CCSW 2.5 / CSL DD. The full sized Sparco rim (not a Fanatec one) was a bit heavy and I could definitely tell it was a bit too heavy for the belt driven bases and CSL DD.

Great round wheel i have friends use my simrig and alcantara just doesnt age well especially without gloves so this is perfect 3drap make a magnetic shifter mod for around 35 euros too if u like to use paddles

seems like the best option at this point is the bmw one which is 140 usd. which is somehow still cheaper than the csl universal hub at 150 (and you still need to put a rim on it). that makes no sense to me.

They don't make this particular one, but they make two wheels which are essentially the same. The CSL BMW and the WRC. The cheapest one being the former at $139.

reaching out to you, ordered my fanatec kit from them in germany and its been 2 weeks and still no tracking number provided, im beginning to think they have ripped me off my 430 pounds, can you give me any experiences with ordering stuff from them and if any delay. there customer service is shit,you cant reach out to anyone there.

They had issues delivering to the UK for some reason. I agree customer service at Fanatec is probably the worst thing about Fanatec. Real shame because the products are well designed.

Absolute garbage! Mine lasted just over a year, then the plastic attachment coupler grenaded. Spend the extra money and get a rim and steel/aluminum coupler set.
