The ABANDONED HOTELS of Kupari, Croatia (from the MRBEAST video!)

MR BEAST just released a video at this location!
In this episode, we are travelling further south through Croatia from Split to Dubrovnik, exploring the old towns of these incredible historic cities. But one of the best adventures for us was exploring the Abandoned Hotels of Kupari (aka The Bay of Abandoned Hotels) - this couples of 5 or 6 hotels was built in the 60's and became a prominent vacation location for the Yugoslavian army elite officers, but in the Croatian War of Independence in the 90's, the Yugoslav army looted and burnt down the hotels floor by floor. The remains have been left for decades and are very interesting to explore! It has also become a popular camp spot for travellers - we camped right outside on the shore!!

I went on a boat trip from Dubrovnik to Cavtat and saw the hotels from the sea. We were told that they were bombarded from the sea by naval ships during the war, hence, the large holes in some of the reinforced concrete walls. We were also told that a number of large hotel companies have been trying to purchase and renovate the hotels for a number of years now.

Wow, that is so fascinating! Why haven't any of those companies been able to purchase and renovate them yet? Legal reasons maybe? I find it so sad that such a beautiful place is just gone to dust, and rotting away😢 Would be so cool for that to happen.

In 1988, I stayed in Kupari for a week. We stayed at the large hotel, can't remember the name. It was beautiful back then and so was the beach. I knew the manager of another military hotel up the coast and he got us in there.

The big hotel was build by Yugoslav army and all Yugoslav armies families and officers had right to be there without any cost. They had full right to destroyed it and not give it to Ustashi (catholic Serbs who served nazi). I learned how to swim at that hotel. I washer with my father and brothers.It was beautiful.

Unbelievable that we have this diamond sitting on the most beautiful beach and our government is letting it root. This area is under government control for over 20 years and they are declining all the offers from outside because the money they want to get is not realistic compared to the investment that is needed. if you look at how many people in Croatia are without a house, to leave this place unused even if you do not get as much as money as you would like, it is just such a shame. I am from Croatia and I had no idea about this place until Mr Beast video. I am guessing more places can be found around the country.
