Exploring the ruins of the 120 year old "hunting" castle - Jagdschloss Schwarzhorn in Wendisch Rietz, Brandenburg. digitalcosmona...
Built in 1901 by a composer and bookseller, the Jagdschloss Schwarzhorn operated as a popular restaurant and hotel on the banks of the Scharmützelsee in Brandenburg.
The neo-renaissance castle was sold off to the prominent jewish lawyer and politician Max Frank in 1921, though after the Nazis came to power he lost his license to practice law and was repeatedly tortured - eventually committing suicide in 1933. The castle was taken over by the Nazi State and used to house resettlers from eastern europe.
During the years of the German Democratic Republic, the Schloss Schwarzhorn was turned into a care home for the elderly and eventually closed its doors in the late 1980s, early 90s after the structural defects of the building became to serious of a risk.
Schwarzhorn was sold to a shady property investor, who ended up being imprisoned for a multi million corruption scandal, and the Schloss Schwarzhorn has been left to rot ever since.
