He said in an interview once that he and the rest of the cast really do follow the writers scripts, and then they get a chance to be creative but in the end product is normally the script. Lauren McMichael Chris Pratt actually does a lot of improvised lines, i'd say the most in the show haha, its pretty evident in outtakes, his line changes every time in the same scene, he wasnt even suppose to be a regular on the show, but they loved his improvised lines and comedic timing so much that they decided to keep him and he became a fan favorite.
