The absolute TRIP that is Polyphonic/overtone singing! ANNA-MARIA HEFFELE skilfully demonstrates!

You might have hear about polyphonic or overtone singing, which some people also calls throat singing. Or, like me, this might be a total new sound to your ears.
I know about overtones, obviously, having been classically trained and spent many years investigating and learning about the science of music. I have not heard someone sing the fundamental tone along with specific overtones before, however... This is an incredible skill, and definitely something I want to investigate and try to understand more!

Sounds like Mongolian throat singing. Check out a Mongolian group called HU.

I thought of Mongolian throat signing too, but it seems to be done differently. I think they use their vocal chords, and they also use vibrations in their throat to produce sounds from the vestibular folds. I don’t know the biological mechanics of her chant, but I read the comments of the original video. Some people speculate it’s a technique involving the air flow going through her ?mouth/vestibular folds/some floppy throat organ?. It would produce a whistle effect, a biological whistle effect. I don’t know how she does that, really. It’s just some theories and hypothesis.

The moment I realised that everyone is singing overtones all the time, unconsciously, things changed for me. I searched for tutorials and they were the easiest way to discover how to produce overtones: Sing a note in a comfortable range to an "u" (like in "you") and shift it slowly... very slowly into an "e" ("see"), and back and forth again and again. Play with the vowels and the position of your tongue and the space it creates. Listen to what happens while your tongue moves in your mouth. That's it, there are the overtones.
