The Absolutely Ridiculous Shield Build - Star Trek Online

Using the Dauntless II Command Science Dreadnought, I have at the request of a member, taken shield builds to a whole new level of absurd. This build focuses on shield capacity and resistance, often being able to completely negate incoming damage. Using a torpedo setup, the build is also able to deal competent damage while basically being immune to any damage that doesn't specifically bypass shields.

Thank you! I just started a tank build after your last video and I wanted to say a few things. First, thank you! I'm enjoying the hell out of it! Second, none of my friends play it so I have no one to talk about it with. And I wanted to mention a few things. I'm using the Dragsonblood console because of it's bonuses to Mycleial Lightning, Kemocite, and Disruptor. And...it buffs the base damage of disruptors too! My Spiral beam banks went from 2004 to 2451 or thereabouts. And because of Entwined Tactical Matrices my Kemocite did the second most damage in an ISA parsed run at 10.6 million. I was pretty shocked. And for whatever reason, my Terran rep beam bank was seventh on the list in terms of damage. Anyway, thank you for reading this!

Shield resist is capped at 75% in game. Just some additional information so people don't waste resources on Subspace Warheads trait, it only performs well against very large and slow or non-moving enemies that have been highly debuffed by an entire team. Running solo or having to split up in a tfo, or using against moving targets is near pointless and you'll see very little damage from it. It's really a one trick pony for borg cubes and structures that have been debuffed by the whole team.

I have never had that issue, you need to boost the speed of targetable torps when you use it, if you do that these suckers hurt, also if your built right you generate so many of them....

@@rjframe4410 It must be broken on my specific character then. I can do as much as 700k solo in Jupiter patrol and the most I see from subspace warheads is about 3k dps. This is consistent across all maps/tfo for me and I have a total of 100% speed boosts to targetable torps. Even in ISE it performs poorly for me, I can use it along with others using it, they'll have huge numbers from it and mine will be single digit dps from subspace.

Back in the day before T6 was a thing I had a breen ship that had stupid amounts of hull and shields and hull and shield healing… Did next to no damage but as a tank and a distraction it worked!

Unfortunately with the amount of damage capable these days I am not sure it would hold threat. Personally I would never try and tank with this build 😂

@@AugmentedDictatorGames My fleet used to do a lot of pvp so it just had to be annoying to be affective, I’d usually partner up with a tact and sci and those two would have made the kills.

Well you do give up some damage for survivability. I wouldn't recommend using this for a dps record run but as an every day grind ship, definitely.

I wonder if the iso mags finally make it so you can run the Dyson reputation weapon with protonic poleron weapons viable? You use the dual damage consoles fron the Dyson rep boxes in tactical to boost them both.

No but I am excited to see how this plays out. Proton damage was never fully supported before, perhaps they plan to change it. T6 Dyson soon maybe?

I am new to sto, only lvl 8! I noticed in this build your health was going quite low a lot of the time, despite your shields not dropping at all - why is that?

Actually in the final combat video my actual ship health barely strays from 100%. In fact most of the combat I still have the temporary HP from the Temporal specialization on my ship.

No, but I did mention that any science vessel could utilize most of the build, with the Fleet Oberth having the highest shield modifier at 1.5.

Have to ask, but is Shield Hardness something other than Shield Resistance? Looking through stowiki and the Hardness term comes up very often.

Same thing, actually. At some point they stopped calling it resistance and replaced it was hardness.

@@AugmentedDictatorGames not fully true. Shield resistance has diminishing returns, example 2 things provide 25% shield damage resistance -> formula goes 0,75*0,75= ,5625 = ~44% damage resistance. While shield hardness is flat, 1 shield hardness = 0,2%. So if you use voth power subcore, strengthened shielding rep trait, phased-space membrane, combined with 2 commander skill tree shield hardness points and harmonic shield barrier console, it should result in 0,7*0,875*0,95 = 0,58 =42% + the hardness ((85+50,5)*0,2)=27% result 42% + 27% = 69% shield damage resistance

Hey, when you do different builds for tanks, science etc. are you on different classes? I.e. Science build on Science Character or do you just run Tactical for everything?

Tactical based on its higher damage captain abilities has always been better at dishing out damage and generating threat. Whoever came up with the original career choices really didn't take into account how important DPS was going to be all around.

It's a little heavy on shield traits for tanking. I would probably stick with the Sagan trait for tanking.

I need a budget+ carry build, I keep getting into elite randoms with guys doing 50k dps, and I only do about 200-300k, even less when I have to run away screaming.

How you guys see the DPS? I can see the Damage I do on hits and skill but I can't see all Damage I did in the mission.

How about the Valdore console that gives shield resistance like 90% or so? The T3 Valdore one.

That's not what that console does. There is a console from that set that gives 5% shield resistance and 10% shield regen. The one you are thinking of gives a 2.5% chance par shot for energy weapons to restore 200% of out going damage as shield heal if any shield facing is bellow 90% health.

Valdore console only works with energy weapons as well.

You already messed this buildup, relook at the Taryn Dreadnought in the 13th anniversary bundle it gives you a trait that gives you + 50 damage as long as your Shields are above 50%😂. It is the only reason to use shields in the game.

That's not even a large amount of damage. I'm not really sure why you would even use that if you had access to ruin of our enemies anyway.

This is a torpedo build, and that trait only affects energy weapon damage.

Nope, the Dauntless II and Protostar have the highest currently.
