The Vox AC10 - As soon as I saw it I saw all those vintage carbon comp resistors, if tis has been stored in a loft / shed / garage then in winter these take in water then freeze and crack, inspecting them with a jeweller's loop is good but often ithe the steel chassis side that gets coldest and cracks. They drift horribly and there's resistors between the output valves and the transformer. Also chack your bias voltages too - they might meassure well then change as components warm up.. I have to say this is one of the cleanest and nicest Vox's I've seen, all those lovely mustard caps, I've worked on 1970's versions that are stuffed with the cheapest components available in a bad period for these. I'm shure you'll crack this case Colombo!

I've not long got rid of a '64 AC-10 identical to this one as I was spending a small fortune trying to get a good overdrive/break up from it to no avail. N.O.S 60's Mullards, it had been twice to the shop but it was just punishingly loud and clean!.

Great video once again, thanks! Really curious about the ac10 now! 🙂

Plane is coming along nicely. I’m thinking of doing a B-24 for the ww2 extended build. Maybe as the “ Strawberry Bitch” which was in North Africa and supposedly took part in the raid on polesti, Romania

Hi Chris, really loving the content! Is the 100 ohm 10 watt resistor in the HT on Ed's amp a sag resistor?

Metric and Imperial!!!! You change between the two in one sentence!!! 😂

That AC10 is a real puzzler. Be interested in what you find. If the signal path, tubes and transformer are known to be ok, it could be the power supply can’t deliver the amps needed (Ie adding impedance to the output circuit)?

Check the negative feedback circuit. Who knows? :)

That is interesting about the speaker/output mismatch. I have a 69 Bassman (4 ohm output) running an 8 ohm speaker. I was told that was ok by an amp tech. I would like to get a proper 4 ohm, 2x12 for the amp at some point. Hope I'm not damaging anything by the mismatch.

just my opinion, but i wouldn’t heatshrink cover the big cap, better to always keep the specs visible for future possible maintenance, and i like the blue.
@johnburns57832 ай бұрын
I suppose he could always write the values / voltages on the heatshrink ?

@@johnburns5783yeah sure but why bother unless the owner really wants it to be black?

Why not just paint the cap black? High temp paint for a bbq. Don’t like the blue either. Write cap stats in gold. Pen from art store. Just curious. Love the show. ❤

Hey Chris, regarding the mains noise discussed earlier in this video (another great one, by the way) has anyone designed an off board power supply for a guitar amplifier, to get it really far away from the input. I know a lot of hifi brands have been doing this for decades but can’t recall seeing it for guitar stuff.

Marshall recently sold me a power supply for one of their amps I repaired for a friend - no problem (and a £23 delivered I was gobsmacked!) - is it because you're buiying commercially and I was a 'general public' sale? Their customer service team were great. Metric/Imperial - I tend to measure in metric and estimate in imperial! I run for fun and work to metric there but keep Strava in imperial just so I can easily work in both. I spend time distacting myself on runs by converting distances and paces between the two. Very sad but being fluent in both is surely a good thing?

Danish Pete has a bit of a talent in the profiling of amps.. any plans for a Kemper profile set for your amplifiers?
