On the lightsabers turning off, his helmet and sleeve armour is made of cortosis which can absorb and deactivate sabers. Cortosis has been part of the EU for many years but this is the first live action we've seen vs sabers.

Correct, and the commentary that Sidious should've used Cortosis in Vader's armor is ludicrous. Vader's suit was made to be specifically vulnerable to energy/force lightning attacks so Sidious could keep him in line. Adding Cortosis would make ZERO sense since it deflects/disrupts energy attacks.

@ssj2carter Why would Palpatine/Sidious cover Vader in Cortosis? He purposefully made Vader's armor suit vulnerable to keep him weak. In fact Vader's suit actually kept him in constant pain as to make him focus on the dark side.

@@goodlookinghost8364 I dunno, I disagree with that take that it needs to be introduced first before using it. I read EU as a kid and had honestly completely forgotten about cortosis, and on first watch, I just figured it was another metal similar to Beskar in that it's somewhat resistant to lightsabers but has the added effect of briefly shorting out lightsabers. They can easily explain it in the following episode when Sol inevitably is debriefed by the rest of the Jedi. Not that there aren't other issues with the episode or series, I just don't think this is one of them.

The only 'defense' I'll give to Mae's twists and turns is that Osha essentially rejected her and NOW Mae is pissed at the Jedi for essentially making Osha reject her. That's all I can think and just hope in the last 3 episodes this is fleshed out.

I’m a bit surprised and bummed that you all aren’t enjoying this as much as I am. I actually think there are more deep cuts to the lore that some are just connecting the dots on now, which has made me believe that Leslie Headland really did her homework. She may even prove a lot of us wrong who think we know the lore better. That said, I agree that the twins aren’t my favorite, but Sol and Qimer really make up for it. In a lot of ways, it feels like they almost wrote this to bait the Star Wars trolls into complaining about breaking canon, but by the end, we’ll see it all works out. We’ll see, I guess.

Wasn’t Osha dismissed because her grief and being too old? Yord says that in the first episode. She loved the idea of the jedi as a kid, then she can’t be one apparently so perhaps her sense of longing for them or “dick riding” them is because of this. Also, Osha rejecting Mae is literally why she cuts her hair and suddenly has a motivation change. i know the writing is bad but some of your questions are right there.

Here's my crackpot theory of why they used kilos music... I think Qimir was Darth Tenebrous's Aprentice before this point failed to kill him and was replaced by Plagueis after the events of The Acolyte. Allowing him to escape the rule of two and become the progenitor of the Knights of Ren. The name Ren was taken by the Ren that kilo met he was not the originator of that name ( think Dread Pirate Roberts)so what if the original Ren was actually Qimir who changed his name after he got what he wanted.. his freedom and created his own Enclave for force users the Knights of Ren... it may be a stretch but I think it's a good story arch

I understand all the flaws of the Show, but honestly when Star Wars has been different. George Lucas's Star Wars is full of plot holes, lazy writing, crappy Choreography but we were kids and love it. Now we want Gabriel Garcia Marquez, James Joice or Umberto Eco levels of storytelling? Star Wars is space fantasy but we want that SW grow up with us.

I think Mae’s motivation’s change Fter she literally stretched out her hand to her sister and she just does a judo move on her and says nah you are going to prison for the people you’ve killed. She probably felt betrayed and her newfound hope of being with her sister shattered. Maybe she’s just angry in general now. This should have been made clearer in the series.

The Phantom Menace is a good example of bad writing. George Lucas did not have someone challenging him on his story. That why the writing is so bad. Look at what happen Qui-Gon Jinn fights Darth Maul. Now Qui-Gon is essentially a space cop, why did he not put out a APB (All Points Bulletin) on Darth Maul? What did Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn forget to do his job???? You see it's bad writing.

Also, the character of Darth Maul is really over the top. The Sith are suppose to stay hidden you can see Darth Maul coming a mile away. He a cartoon villain and a product of lazy writing. He just a Jedi in black robes and a red lightsaber. George Lucas needed show a better contrast between the Jedi and Sith. If the Jedi are "Peace Keepers" then show the Sith as "Terrorist". If the Jedi are "moral and upright", then show the Sith "stealing, and being sly".

I'm still not a big fan of them though I think TCW makes Ep II & III retroactively better, but TPM still suffers like it ever has (and II & III don't magically change, either, technically). My take is, if the internet existed during the first Star Wars films, those too would’ve been roasted for their own reasons. We live in a world where people who have a negative opinion on something (whether it’s legit or unfair) is being boosted much more significantly than any given positive opinion. It’s not a coincidence that, more times than not, some portion of social media has an issue with any given movie or tv show (regardless of left/right politics)

In a good dialogue scene between the two sisters, Mae would tell her unconscious sister that "I am going to kill this Jedi who has brainwashed you. Then you will be free to be with me." Or something like that. Just one line of dialogue would connect the whole scene to her actions. But instead we are just supposed to guess at the motivation here. I think the writers are trying to show and not tell about motivations - but they didnt realize the other 4 episodes so far have failed the "why" so much that now you NEED to flat out declare motivations with some dialogue. "You never could block," is a wasted line.

It's odd that the live action Star Wars shows can't figure out how to utilize a shorter run time, yet the animated shows excel at it. It seems to me all the best writers are on every project except the live ones. Since I don't watch these shows to learn anything about filmmaking I can find enjoyment in what we do get as anything that adds to the lore will always interest me. I think a lot of issues people have with this current show are the ways in which the story is being told. It has some Momento vibes where you see the outcome of things that are set up after they've already happened. Case in point, the metal of the helmet that disables the lightsabers is unclear and adds confusion to the scene (much as the Jedi seemed confused) then in the next episode it gets explained. There's also a lot of nods and lines that reference the high republic novels and even some old legacy canon, but I don't read those books so all of those things were lost on me and because of that, seemed out of place and awkward at times. It almost feels like this was supposed to be a movie, then became a streaming show that is cut in a way that seems like it was designed for syndication with time for commercials.

The most surprising thing this episode did is bring Cortosis armor from the books and comics into live action. It’s a material that nullifies blaster shots and temporarily disables lightsabers. It’s incredibly rare and even harder to refine into armor.

Jeki is meant to invoke subconscious feelings of Ahsoka - also there is an interview with Dave Filoni where at about 18:30 where Filoni asks Lucas if Ahsoka is too young - the child soldier question - and Lucas basically says " don't worry Ahsoka is capable. Star wars is for kids. When i say that i don't mean space wizards. I mean kids who actually didn't know the bad guy would be Manny. Kids who don't know who popular actors are and can then think whether or not they will survive till the next episode. Kids who don't think about how long it takes to travel from one place to the next. Kids who don't question if Mae still wants to get arrested, but just think look a cool fight scene. I felt that this was the better of the episodes so far. Primarily because I was waiting for a lightsaber fight. For Jekki fighting I chalk it up to same thing with Ashoka being able to handle herself with other Sith characters in Clone Wars, I have no issue with her going up against Manny Jacinto’s character. For the fight with the red shirt Jedi’s who knows how long they were fighting him for. Also, apparently the metal of the helmet was made of Cortosis which was part of book canon that they added in. I imagine they will explain it in a later episode. I definitely felt that Sol should have sensed that Mae was pretending to be Osha, but we’ll see what happens next week.

He never says he is a sith. He says that he has no name, but a jedi would call him a sith. The dismissiveness with which he says it would imply that he isn't a sith and is actually insulting the Jedi's intelligence by saying that they would assume he was a sith. Its interesting because it could be a setup for him being a completely different group, and I have been seeing a lot of people theorizing he is a Knight of Ren.

It was invented by Darth Kreia, which the show runner has said was one of her favorite characters. I hate the "Star Wars is for kids/It's Space Wizards & Laser Swords" argument so much. Something being for kids doesn't mean it can't be written well or have an impact for adults as well. All of Disney/Pixar is for kids and 80% of those movies are well written and hit with adults as well. Inside Out 2 is for kids and is breaking the box office currently. And like Mike said comic books are for kids but we've gotten great characters like Harley Quinn who started in a kids animated series and is one of the most popular DC side characters now and most definitely not kid friendly but is always written well lol

This outrage about lightsaber deaths is weird to me. Just like any wound, including gunshots, swords, whatever, the wound channel location and organs within that channel matter a whole lot, as does the access to quick medical intervention. Sabine was immediately provided with medical care. The fight was concluded immediately, which is not usually the case with other lightsaber deaths in Star Wars. If you look at all the lightsaber deaths in SW, a vast majority include decapitation or falling from great heights.

Yeah here I am. I’ve been so bored with this show. But this episode was DOPE. And Mike is on point yes that is partially because it is all action and no story. GOOD. The story is boring. The action here was so cool. I actually loved the “citizen to the ship” line, I love that there’s a helmet that short circuits lightsabers… never mention it again. Look that’s a Star Wars thing to do. This episode was cool. Subpar show but this episode felt like that idea we had of Andor with lightsabers. Just on an aesthetic basis, not story.

Mace would have cut Palpatine down too, because Palpatine was too dangerous. Obi-Wan didnt have an issue shooting 4 more shots at Grievious after Grievious dropped his weapon and clutched his chest. Luke also tried to cut down Palpatine. In my opinion, just dont write that stuff, where the good guys would have won, but they stop for a ridiculous reason. Its a dumb trope, especially when the enemy is overpowered.

Also She didn't want Sol to kill Qimir, only then to try to kill him herself with the flying creatures. The time between those 2 events is 1 minute in the episode, and she decides to do it in less time. It's all based on whether he has a lightsaber or not. It is infuriating gibberish this rule they have suddenly created. Should just say I thought this was the best episode, but the storytelling and character motivations are very badly done.

The light sabers turning off is a metal called Cortosis. Its from Legends and the cannon comics. Kristian will like this, Darth Bane worked in a Cortosis mine before he joined the Sith

Yes the metal itself is very weak almost akin to like copper, so it is malleable. However purer cortosis will disrupt the blade's loop, which is why it shuts off, but if you make an alloy out of Cortosis, that alloy becomes lightsaber resistant, but not longer shuts the blades down. Simple line of dialogue would of explained this. Like when the first 2 Jedi Attack, and their sabers shut off. All you needed was for one of them to look up. "He's wearing Cortosis! That tells you what his helmet and bracer are made out of, and from what just happened you can infer that it shuts off lightsabers. Yet again, another simple Writing mistake ontop of many in this show.

When I saw him headbutt a lightsaber causing it to deactivate for a few seconds I cheered and shouted "CORTOSIS!" It was so great! I was so happy to see Cortosis finally used in live action, and actually used well as part of counters and attacks! Easily one of the best lightsaber combat scenes in star wars!

Made sense to me, Mae is the biggest threat as far as revealing his identity. If he lets her keep running away so he can deal with the Jedi, she has a better chance of getting away which he could not allow. The Jedi weren't going anywhere, he figures he can deal with them once he's dealt with Mae.

Tony Gilroy doesn't like Star Wars, he's getting paid to finish up Andor(after season 2 no more Andor because season 2 leads up to the beginning of Rogue One). Star Wars is not his thing. He is just a good writer that they called in to fix Rogue One story wise.

I honestly think Acolyte only has 1 main problem that creates all the other complains, is too much story for the format, of course they don't have the time to develop the plot and make us care for the characters, I think the story has potential, but imagine if Andor had 8 episodes of 35 minutes each, it would't be half as good, that format works for something like mandalorian that treats itself like an adventure of the week, but not for this story.

This is why I've joked that SW characters raged at Reva and her side/back story so Disney is like, ok, we'll keep the side and back stories of the side characters to a minimum... and the fans rage that they don't have any connections to these characters. If Disney does A, the fans will complain they didn't do B. If they do B, they will complain they didn't do A. It's been a trend in the fandom including the MCU and elsewhere.

This is arguably the best episode from The Acolyte and I still didn’t feel completely satisfied from it. I think I’m DONE watching the rest of it. I gave it 5 episodes too many when I should’ve kept it at zero. We’re now left with another mystery regarding Sol and what really happened in Brendok? What’s Sol hiding? The reveal will be bashed because we all saw it coming from a smilo away. It actually makes Mae look more of a dumbass that she didn’t know who her master was all this time and treated him like a fool when she was the fool. I’m fine if Qimir happened to be Smilo Ren but I thought it would’ve been better off if he was only a red herring and it was a character we hadn’t seen yet. Make it a complete surprise. So the convenience having similar hairstyles after 16 years is for Mae to do an Arryk Cargyll did in House of the Dragon? Do a Parent Trap? All Mae had to do was cut the longer part from the back of her hair and she will look exactly like Osha. Why doesn’t Sol not sense that’s Mae? Does Qimir know that’s Osha? Why not kill her since she already knows his identity? Why would Osha turn to the Sith when she’s been pro-Jedi since she was a child? Wasn’t Mae the one who fell in Brendok? Who told her Osha was dead? Who has been sheltering Mae all these years? She couldn’t find out after 16 years that Osha trained to be a Jedi since that’s what she wanted the last time they saw each other? The writers turned Mae into the biggest dumbass in this story. She wasn’t aware of her master who stood right next to her all this time. It’s like Vader not checking in on his home planet. That maybe he should try to attempt to find the man who decapitated him. But yeah, he hates sand. Props to Jecki. She handled the fights better than Yord did, a Jedi Master. 🤦🏻 Yord was frickin’ WEAK! You see one scene with his lightsaber against Smilo Ren/Darth Venom’s and then it took only 2 seconds for unmasked Qimir to snap his neck to death. Yord sucks! Only Qimir, Sol and Jecki showed any real skills in these fights. I didn’t like how the trees were obscuring the early fight scenes. Too bad Jecki had to die in it. She was becoming a more interesting character than the Aniseya twins and Rey. Better moves than Shin Hati from last year and I was loving Shin Hati. Better moves than Rey in any of the Sequel Trilogy movies. Props to Daphne Keen. The slipping out of a second lightsaber from her was pretty cool only for Jecki to die that way. The real MVP is Qimir as he was able to kill 7 of the 8 Jedis. We know 5 of them were redshirts but I didn’t expect Yord and Jecki to die in it this soon. But then the ridiculous scene when Osha put Pip on Qimir’s back to attract those giant moths. He probably would’ve killed Mae and Sol had Osha hadn’t done that. But for story purposes, Mae and Sol needs to wear their plot armor. I still felt dissatisfied from this episode. I don’t think I will continue it any further. Maybe I will watch the final three episodes like half a year later on a random day. I can already predict how this unfolds. Osha will kill Qimir at the end. Maybe we will get some fan service that Qimir was serving under Tenebrous but I don’t find this story and this mystery very interesting. It’s just a BAD show and Amandla can go ahead and call me a racist and sexist for it. Make another music video for us, you narcissist. June 2025: Andor Season 2 ^ My most anticipated for anything next year. For 2020: The Last Dance My favorite from 2020 being a big Michael Jordan fan with The Mandalorian Season 2 a close 2nd. For 2021: Spider-Man: No Way Home Lived up to it’s hype and remains my favorite Spider-Man movie ever made. Yeah, it can be overrated and the story is pretty awful. But it was MCU’s last very good movie/event. I don’t think Deadpool & Wolverine will surpass No Way Home for me because I don’t care about the people that Deadpool cares about. No Way Home gave us the ultimate fan service of Tobey, Andrew, and Tom together at last! For 2022: The Batman Became one of my top 5 favs of 2022 behind Elvis, Top Gun: Maverick, House of the Dragon S1, and Andor S1. I didn’t initially like Andor but it’s become my favorite thing that Disney has ever done for Star Wars. Andor had no lightsabers and it still surpassed Revenge of the Sith which has an idiotic story on how Anakin turned so fast. Anakin spent 13 years with the Jedis and then decides to kill his Jedi brothers and sisters because he wants to save Padmé. That’s stupid. For 2023: Loki Season 2 Became my favorite for all of 2023 while Air was my favorite movie. Loki only had 12 episodes but it was consistently good. I think Loki’s worst episodes are better than any episode from The Acolyte. Oppenheimer is in my top 5 but it wasn’t exactly my favorite and neither was MI7: Dead Reckoning Part I. For 2024: House of the Dragon S2 After two episodes, is currently living up to the hype. Should surpass Season 1 easily since there’s more action in it. More war. I still can’t believe Episode 2 made the two most hated characters for book readers and made them likable! Aegon and Otto’s scenes were the chef’s kiss. 😘 Give Tom and Rhys their Emmy noms. My most anticipated was never Deadpool 3. I think that movie can reach my top 5 but I’m not as psyched about it as others. Just more of Ryan Reynolds’ shtick that gets tiresome. For 2025: Andor S2 I believe it’s going to live up to my expectations like Loki S2 did and what HOT D is currently doing. I believe Andor S2 easily surpasses that Rey movie and The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. I’m more interested in the Dawn of the Jedi than I am for a Rey or Mando movie. After Mando Season 3, I don’t seem to care much about The Mandalorian. The finale of The Book of Boba Fett and Mando S3 ruined The Mandalorian for me. We all know Grogu was created to sell toys. The Acolyte (2024) After Rogue One, everything after is pretty mid or awful. I may need to rewatch Solo again. Some folks seems to love it. I only saw it once and while I didn’t hate it, I don’t remember much from it. Han Solo remains one of my favorite SW characters but I wasn’t feeling that movie because Harrison Ford wasn’t portraying him. The Acolyte is without a doubt the worst Star Wars project I have ever seen. Shame too because I was very intrigued by it when I read the synopsis for it about 4-5 years ago. I’ve tried playing both sides trying to defend it and then objectively criticize it. Weak story, weak dialogue, and weak acting. It’s going absolutely nowhere. I’m done. Y’all can finish the rest. I will be more focused in House of the Dragon S2 and The Boys S4. Much better shows than The Crapolyte. Love to Sol but the rest can all die and I wouldn’t care. I expect the ending is Osha kills Qimir and she, Mae, and Sol live happily ever after. Such a predictable and pointless story. This episode titled Night is comparable to The Phantom Menace. Only the lightsaber duels saved it. I didn’t give a flying f*** about the droid army or trade federation story from TPM. And the pod racing that went on for way too long. Smilo Ren >> Kylo Ren Manny Jacinto still can’t save this shit show. Although Smilo Ren is cooler than Kylo Ren as he did kill 7 Jedis by himself while Kylo lost to an untrained girl, I still wouldn’t buy an action figure of Smilo. The story should’ve focused on Qimir and how he became a Sith. Not on Tia and Tamera from Sister, Sister.

I’d love it if they did an Old Republic show with the same structure as GoT. A show where we follow the perspective of the Sith, Jedi, Republic and Mandalorian in place of the GoT houses. We’d get to learn more about characters from each faction and the fandom can choose who they cheer for in the conflicts between them

@@DJ-dj2xl In legends we see Cortosis mostly in random Imperial special projects to counter Jedi, or being used in KOTOR era most often by the Sith or jedi hunting 3rd parties. It those sources they say its very rare, expensive/difficult to refine, and its very brittle (as was shown that after being hit by a physical attack the guy's helmet shattered into two pieces). But the Sith haven't been publicly around in about 1000 years, so why would Jedi use a material that protects against a weapon no one else uses?

So why wouldn't the Jedi create Cortosis suits when they know dark force users with lightsabers are out there? Hence the canon breaking lore. As for Cortosis being rare, why not just create more of it in a lab? You've got a civilization that can harness the power of spacetime, can create something as incredible as lightsabers, death stars, droids and literal telepathy and telekenisis exists but you can't make more of a rare material by simply aligning the elements, molecule's and atomic structure of the material you want in the right order to make more of it? Like I said it was always a ridiculous idea, there was no need to ever show Cortosis in the live action.

I think Qimir is Sol's little brother or son. Sol means sun, and Qamar means moon. The Acolyte logo has the letter O stylized as an eclipse with a moon and sun. I thought this was to represent the twins. But it could also represent Sol (sun) and Qimir (Qamar means moon).
