What I love about the Addams is that even when they thought the kids wanted to go to camp, they supported it. When the baby became, "normal" you see Morticia reading Dr. Seuss to him. Even if what the kids love "terrifies" them they support them. Really, a healthy family dynamic. ❤

Paul Rudnick, the writer of Addams Family Values, had this to say. "I did also want the movie’s name to be a response to the Republican Party’s constant harping on “family values,” as if only conservatives could define a loving family. In Republican terms, “family values” is always code for censorship and exclusion, and Republicans still refuse to respect or even acknowledge, for example, LGBTQ families. I like to believe that the Addams Family is far more loving and accepting than their enemies." So, yeah. Spot on correct.

Two takeaways: Firstly, that smile would be impressive from an adult actor, so the fact that Ricci did it so well while being a literal child really speaks to her talent. Secondly, Morticia hates what Pubert has become but she still reads him The Cat In The Hat because it's what *he* wants and is what's best for him. No matter what, she's a good mother.

Her father, before becoming a lawyer, was a lay practitioner of "primal scream therapy"--wherein it was believed that patients could purportedly scream their way to a psychological breakthrough. George: "Christopher Lloyd’s most serious movie is likely “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1975). This film is a drama directed by Miloš Forman, and it tells the story of a group of patients in a mental institution. Christopher Lloyd plays the role of Taber, a patient who is one of the few who has been involuntarily committed. "The film received widespread critical acclaim, including five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, and Christopher Lloyd’s performance in it is considered one of his most nuanced and serious. "While Lloyd has appeared in many films throughout his career, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” stands out as a particularly dramatic and intense role, showcasing his ability to portray complex and serious characters."

I'm addition to Simone & George, my favorite reaction channels are TBR Schmitt and EOM Reacts. If you're not already familiar with them you might look at their playlists for your favorite movies & those reactions would be new for you. At TBR Schmitt, he & his wife Samantha are great together, very amusing with comedies & have interesting outro discussions with more serious fare. And they have great chemistry together. At EOM, JL is hilarious (especially with scary movies) & also has a tender heart, not afraid to shed tears which some viewers have found cathartic in a way. He has two puppers, his "co-pilots", who sometimes accidentally become part of the video. If that might make you feel sad, skip that suggestion but in future you might enjoy the channel. Both channels are really entertaining & I'm hoping you might find something just right to help you through today & the next few. Again, my heart truly goes out to you. I still miss my fur-babies that both passed in the last few years & there were some days that watching reactions helped me through it, when I couldn't even concentrate on a good book. They did recast the Grandmother, with the actress from Princess Bride (Carol Kane). The original actress (Judith Malina) didn't return because she supposedly wasn't asked to come back after having an animous relationship with the cast and crew, but other reports say they just wanted a younger actress because the role became more physically demanding

8:27 "Is that supposed to be someone?" "Who is that?" Oh my elder millenial bones are creaking, though this probably wasn't a show that aired in Canada. That's Kathie Lee Gifford. She was one-half of the morning talk show "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee" alongside Regis Philbin (my knowledge). She departed as co-host in 2000, while Philbin stayed on until 2011 (Wikipedia knowledge here on out). Kathy Lee's replacement was Kelly Ripa whose been there since 2000. Co-hosts have varied, but as of 2023 is Ripa's husband Mark Consuelos. Debbie, as a black widow serial killer, will model herself on others and in this case she's going with Kathie Lee.

If I'm recalling the story correctly, the Girl Scout/Camp Mean Girl roles were initially intended to be entirely different characters, but the girl returned to audition as a background extra and the director remembered her from the first movie and felt she was the perfect fit for the lead role.

You took me in, you accepted me, but did any of you love me? "Pubert" was one of the names submitted by Charles Addams himself for Puggsley when developing his unnamed characters for TV. Puggsley was chosen instead. Using "Pubert" is one more of these two films' direct homages to the cartoonist. The three-legged baby jumper was directly from one of the original Charles Addams cartoons, way back in the New Yorker magazine. Only in his illustration, it was four legs (iirc). That was the gag, Gomez elated as he enters the living room and finds Morticia knitting the weird jumper. Christopher Lloyd has done normal at times. In the old Taxi sitcom, he was less energetic and more druggy as Reverend Jim. In a flashback episode, he played the character in college, when he was a straight-arrow preppie (before being introduced to the devil's weed).
