Just a little correction, FOMO was a thing way long before 2004, it is one of the traps described in books from the 80s about trading on the stock market. But probably the terminology was introduced even earlier. Love the channel mate

I'm 13, and I've been addicted to Fortnite now for a few months. When I first started, I would play for up to 8 hours a day. My dad played too, and he definitely didn't discourage my playing. Then after a few months, I played for 2 hours a day. However, I would then watch hours of videos related to it and let it fill my entire mind. It caused several negative impacts, and they definitely got me with FOMO. I've probably spent $250 so far. However, as of right now, I'm trying to get rid of my addiction. It's hard because my dad doesn't really believe that I have an addiction, so he's not really helping me. However, as of recently, I've been only rarely been playing video games that aren't addicting, and I have stopped watching videos related to Fortnite. Hopefully, I can break my addiction and my FOMO and eventually stop playing. In a week or two I'm going to play Fortnite again, and if I don't feel addicted to it, then I'll only play on the weekends. Thanks for all of your videos 🙂

I uninstalled all my games and disconnected all my consoles so I can commit to going 30 days without gaming. I've been neglecting my model building hobby far too long. I've got three kits that have been lying around, half-finished. If I can make it 30 days without gaming, I will commit to every 30 additional days after that.

Video game events are generally more affordable, fun and shorter than most IRL events. That's why they're so popular. I have so much FOMO in a lot of aspects of my life, not just gaming.

I mean the main problem is playing "meaningless" games/ never ending grinding multiplayer games who combine social virtual status and fomo, those are all extrinsic motivation to keep playing the game. Instead there are games meaningful like Sekiro, NewVegas, etc. in which the only drive is intrinsic; So you legit play/experience that world because it is giving something to you. The main points are: 1) play in a responsible way 2) Play meaningful game, the one close to an art piece or a movie.

Can't fool us Cam. Those glasses are to set the Hogwartz Legacy mood. Haha just kidding, I like them a lot. I use circular glasses too. This video really revealed my FOMO moments. I used to check into Valorant about every hour to make sure my "friends" were in a lobby without me. I did the same thing in our discord server. I was basically a stalker and it was super unhealthy. My new view is that I can play if I have time, I am satisfined with the work i've done, and I have no other conflicting events. It has helped quite a bit. Of course, it has been hard to stick with it, but it has been worth it so far. Staying away from the the toxic AAA multiplayer games helps a lot too. Only story games, or multiplayer games with IRL friends for me.

Destiny 2 had me ensnared in the FOMO trap, but I got deeply depressed and it broke me out of it and I feel a lot better, that's the only good thing its done for me. And Bungie has even admitted to using psychologists to make gameplay and the shops addictive etc. a majority of Destiny players are breaking free of the FOMO mainly because everyone sees how bad the game really is, which is good to see, most of the FOMO defenders are on Fortnite and if you bring up one suggestion of bringing back old collab skins back they instantly get defensive and rude and cling onto these skins like their being robbed, its honestly sad and makes me wonder if they are extremely stingy IRL, this line of thinking over pixels and unreal engine files makes no sense. I also believe this will condition people into accepting these business practices and consuming products rabidly. (look at the Stanley cup fiasco, people were stealing boxes full of CUPS. But this has happened before, another example is blackfriday.) TLDR: Escape the FOMO mines. Addendum: But if you still want some good games to play Indie/AA games, Old School games 2004-2013, and Singleplayer games, Many newer AAA game titles have predatory shops chock full of FOMO, are boring and bland, or have been pumped full of politics by the activist writers, Why? Because screw escapism :D.

I think skill based matchmaking (SBMM) is a bit exploitive as well, FN uses this quite heavily along with a lot of other manipulative algorithms. They give players free "wins" and bots that are easy to beat to make the player feel like they are getting better and even the "king".

I only tried out Fortnite one time, and never played it again. Honestly I found it confusing as to what I was supposed to do. And it doesn't bother me at all because I don't feel as if I have missed out on anything. And the other thing is, i'm not a very social person, so there is no pressure from anyone to play Fortnite, and even if there was, I don't give in so easily.

The FOMO also comes from the desire of getting high quality games, following the latest gaming news and most importantly getting time-limited offers from games such as Genshin Impact (Aloy character) for example.

Serious question, who cares? As long as its not interfeiring with my life negetivly is it such a bad thing that i WANT to get into a new season to play and have fun? Im not SCARED im missing out?? Im just interested in the new stuff...? So your generalization and lies about the inherint addictiveness of video games are once again wrong... and even if its true i can have and will continue to handle it.
@royalcass

so in summary, video game bad. you stopped playing them and now happy. but in all seriousness, the battlepass is only $10 and if you complete it, you get all those vbucks back, so is Fortnite really the worst company monetizing their product? It's way better than Overwatch's loot boxes or some other competitive shooters that have pay to win guns. I'm defending video games here because of the fact that your ending was an anti gaming tirade most boomers preach, completely ignoring the plenty of amazing and life changing experiences you can have through the medium of gaming. I never would have learned how beautiful space could be as a concept if I had never played Mario Galaxy, I never would have came out of the closet and decided to live for myself no matter the odds if I'd never played Persona 5, I never would have shared countless laughs and memories with my friends playing Minecraft or Fortnite. Video games aren't evil or rotting the youth, addiction is
