On Wednesday morning, Dawn Staley and South Carolina's women's basketball team landed a commitment from Arkansas Razorback transfer and forward Maryam Dauda, who immediately is a strong contender to take over the five spot left vacated by Kamilla Cardoso who moved onto the WNBA. While Dauda will certainly make an impact in her own ways, her skillset will also help one of the team's youngest stars in MiLaysia Fulwiley show off her full arsenal this next season. How could that happen? Andrew explains by talking about the way Maryam could be used in the Gamecocks' offense, and then rolls the different 2024 scenarios for South Carolina's football team and the subsequent impact it will have on Shane Beamer's job security!

This is SUCH good news. She'll be one of the strongest post players we have. Sadly for the rest of the SEC (and the country), this is just the rich getting richer. Now we run a front court out there with some combination of Watkins/Kitts/Feagin/Dauda/Edwards. I have to wonder if maybe Kitts is going to get some time on the wing.
@kdean42
@kdean42 4 ай бұрын
Kitts is good . She will be fine. Edwards will be the one getting wing minutes. Kitts is so good at feeding the other post down low . This is why she started ahead of Watkins. Watkins needs to work on her post feeds.

@@kdean42 I think it's yet to be determined who will get the wing minutes, but Kitts has a far better outside shot than Watkins, Edwards, or any of the others, which is why I think she might get wing minutes. I am by NO MEANS saying Kitts would play some wing minutes because she isn't good (And I don't know how you got that from I wrote, but it was never intended). Quite the opposite. I'm saying she'd get wing minutes because she's that versatile.

@@ArtofFreeSpeech Kitts is probably the most interesting conversation in terms of what her role will look like next season. Thing I've had to remind myself is that Chloe just turned 19 this past season, which was technically her Sophomore season but for everyone else would've been their freshman season. With Chloe being a rising junior, I think what should happen is she should start games (at least when she's goes onto the floor) at the four, then be moved to the wing spot when Edwards comes in. Essentially split it close to 50/50 between those two spots. Only thing that worried me last season is that when Kitts had to contend with an extremely physical matchup against top-notch Power 4 competition or in SEC play, she struggled a lot of times to match it. Being a year older, however, with more time in the weight room, could help her tremendously.

@@ArtofFreeSpeech Totally understand what you meant. When I said "good", I was referring to her NOT loosing significant playing time. I knew you weren't questioning her talent level. I just believe she will continue getting mostly post minutes. Think about it: she got post minutes this year, and we had Cardoso. Dauda is good, but she ain't Cardoso.

Have you guys really looked at our schedule? Our schedule has to be one of the five toughest schedules in the country. We win five games and he has done one helluva job. First component of winning is to recruit players. Beamer is doing better than what is expected. Once he starts stacking talent we will be able to win more consistently. Let’s give the man time to build a program and not just a team that’s decent for one year. A program will be good for years, but to get there is fans need to be patient.
@LockedOnGamecocks
@LockedOnGamecocks 4 ай бұрын
The thing is James, Beamer showed early on that he could do more with less, which makes him an adequate head coach. Now, he has to prove he can't do less with more, which is the overall situation with the roster right now. Also, in this current era of the transfer portal, programs like Carolina can ill-afford to have two down years in a row, which by their current standard is missing out on a bowl game.

Unfortunately, Tac seems to be injury prone. Getting Dauda provides much needed depth and post experience. I don't see how she specifically helps Fulwiley any more than the post players we already have. I like our post players. We just need some depth with Tac's lack of experience.

Not sure about rankings, but alphabetically, the 5 best teams are probably Uconn, Notre Dame, S.Carolina, So Cal, and Texas. I would agree with any poll that includes those 5 teams at the top in any order. I would also keep an eye on Duke and UCLA. Go Gamecocks! Let's make it back to back.

@@LockedOnGamecocks Obviously you have not watched Arkansas, they shoot volume 3's not off any pick and "anything" action. It will open up the lane for EVERY guard and forward driving the lane if she is camped behind the 3 point line. But it turn takes Dauda out of rebounding position. Also Dauda got cooked by Watkins & Cardoso. They were saying she needed to get in the weight room. In that game I thought she took too many 3's but when they had her moving in the offensive set, she got some nice shots in the paint where she was much more efficient. How do you think Dawn will share the minutes? It seems you could cut this team in half and have the number 1 and 2 ranked teams. How many games do you think this team could lose ,worst case scenario ? Any news on baseball recruiting? SC baseball will have a ton of holes to fill next year. Do you believe SC Football can start 4-0 ? I believe 6 wins and Beamer's safe. 5 wins probably keeps his job as long as the loses aren't lopsided and SC doesn't tank bad at the end of the year. I don't believe close wins will hurt as much as getting blown out in loses. If the mens sports don't start doing better , Tanner may find himself on the hotseat.

Dawn will be able to split the minutes almost evenly at the guard positions. Frontcourt and wing we'll say she goes 60-40 starters and rotational players. Worst-case scenario is this team loses one game, maybe at Texas or UCLA. Otherwise this team could once again enter the NCAA Tournament undefeated. Baseball recruiting will all depend on status of coaching staff and MLB Draft. I absolutely think there's a path where South Carolina could start the season 4-0.

Arkansas offensive philosophy was the attempts not necessarily the makes, which wasn’t a good thing for percentage.
