What i find ironic is that even though Quanxi told Denji how ignorance is bliss in that it helps you ignore the things you would morally feel wrong about it clears your mind. But in Denjis case his ignorance is what costed him everything. If he hadnt been so ignorant he possibly could see the signs that something wasnt right with Makima.

I've always headcanoned Quanxi is the "Predator/Hunter devil", representing the fear of predators and being hunted by dangerous animals or people, and using crossbows and arrows was a popular weapon to hunting animals.

Given the surrounding context of Quianxi and her other fiends, Pingtsi might be a devil of gossip/misinformation/rumors/broken confidentiality/etc. Even if the little facts she shared aren't lies and rumors, they're shared in a similar way to how information could be leaked through casual conversations. It's pretty vague, but I can see how it would be something humans would worry about and fear enough to result in a devil being born of it, especially with modern era making it so much easier to spread knowledge and misinformation.

I think there is a second meaning to the advice Quanxi gives Kashibe and why he chose to follow it. Because by remaining ignorant of Makima and by not looking at her obliterating his former buddy, he can maintain an ignorance that will keep him from fearing Makima, giving him a chance against her. Ignorance is bliss, because it also represents a life without fear. Kashi seems to maintain a level of disinterest psychologically despite being motivated to hunt down and exterminate devils, I think this is his tactic to ensure he does not empower any devil he confronts with his own fear.

Quanxi has a few similarities with a Bloodborne character, Gehrman, the First Hunter. Apart from their names, he’s also a powerful character who believes in blissful ignorance. One of the first things he says when you encounter him is; “You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do!” Cosmo representing cosmic horror and insanity inducing knowledge relates to big parts of Bloodborne’s story too. I wonder if Fujimoto has ever played Bloodborne and if these minor similarities are entirely coincidental or not.

Love this video, I also find it really interesting how Quanxi - despite her cold demeanor - is one of the few character empathetic towards devils and fiends. Most people seem to view them as tools or trash, but her going on a mission to secure basic rights and an education for her girlfriends really does feel like she changed over time from simply hunting devils, to caring for a select few

Tbh, either quanxi got haughty over the years with being the best of the best or she was ready for retirement if she started thinking ignorance is bliss for a devil hunter. She's such a badass that any external knowledge just became painful or a hindrance, so she developed a cold demeanor over the years, focused on honing her skills, so she wouldn't have to think. I think her polyamory lies in falling in love with parts of herself she's lost in her profession. The suture devil--her wounded, vulnerable side Cosmos devil--thirst for knowledge Pingtzi--her talkative side Dragon devil Long--her passionate side And she falls in love with other women that remind her of her origins and how she used to be. They provide her with senses of familiarity before she started devil hunting and early on in her career. Even though she's such a badass in her profession, I consider her a victim of burnout and it shows how insidious burnout is. The burnout didn't affect her work, but it along with her experiences may have affected her spirit. She literally turned herself into a weapon, a machine, so she wouldn't have to think about aspects she doesn't want to. It also shows that trauma and ptsd doesn't always look like anger, sadness, fear, nightmares, etc. Sometimes, they become a mix of hard and hallow like Quinxi. Her PTSD may even explain why she prefers the company of fiends or at least finds it easier to connect with them, but we're moving into territory where it would take a while for me to explain. I find her a tragic character and she foreshadows tragedy for devil hunters long in their profession. Crossbow devil is fitting. It's a deadly weapon and it's easy to operate so it is fitting and representative of Quanxi who doesn't like to think too much. I'd also like to point out that in her devil form, she is reminiscent of a porcupine which is reflective back to her PTSD and the effort to shield her mind.

Question: Are all the hybrids actually dead or were they just controlled by Makima? Because Reze was impaled and Quan'Xi decapitated, yes, but we've seen them take far greater amounts of damage and be fine after that. Makima needed to prove to herself that she was superior to them by defeating them, but after that could she summon them even after death or did she need to keep them alive for this to work? To sum that up, can we expect to see a comeback of Reze, Quan'Xi and Katana Man in part 2 or they were just "talking corpses" controlled by Makima and now that she's gone they're gone for good?

There's no way to be sure, although they were clearly under Makima's influence mentally speaking. But Fujimoto being the writer of this story, I kinda doubt they have survived the disappearance of the first Makima : perhaps I'll be proven wrong (yet completely marvick, it's still a battle shonen after all, contrarily to Fire Punch), but I'd say he's not likely to be tender with them, they must be either dead, mentally disabled or in a catatonic state. If they're dead, there's a possibility they ressurect under a similar form, but I wouldn't hope for much more

There's also something to be said of Quanxi's connection to Journey to the West. Most obviously is how her name connects to the Bodhisattva Quanyin, which she shares the Quan- part of their names, as well as the x-y in the english translation of their names. The letters x and y are generally seen as opposites in math, which represents how Quanxi is an ignorant slave to the cycles of life and death, while Quanyin has literally achieved enlightenment. There's also the parallel between the Journey to the WEST, and Quanxi travelling EAST, delving deeper into her ignorance along with her "disciples." Quanxi's girlfriends also share parallels between the (technically) 4 disciples of Tripitaka, the protagonist of Journey to the West, a dragon that takes the form of a horse (heh), a carefree idiot that hides horrific power, a stoic, mysterious and completely loyal disciple associated with the color green, and a talkative paper tiger who gets everyone else in trouble with their overconfidence. I think about Quanxi way to much and I really want her to get some character development in Part 2 lol, hoped you appreciated this little essay born from a fan girl's shower thoughts.

I like to call her the hunter devil. Being the first devil hunter helps, using arrows is synonymous with hunting. She has traits of a hunter, the ability not to make a sound and be invisible to its target. Fun little tidbit about Pope Innocent II and his hatred of the crossbow: The reason the weapon was considered so hateful and dangerous was because of how quickly and easily someone could become an extremely effective combatant with it, and its effective performance against the chain mail armor of the 1100's, while bows tended to struggle at anything beyond close range. Combine that with the incredibly easy mass production of crossbows due to having a metal bow as opposed to a wooden one, and you can understand why the Pope would hate and fear them, and try to spread those feelings about them.

I would be interested in a video like this dissecting Kishibe's character. I'm terribly curious about him and how strong he actually is. When Kishibe fought Quanxi he was momentarily overwhelmed but ultimately unharmed so I really wonder how a serious fight between these two would have went. I think the theme with Denji is that he was neglected this world, the world of a comfortable life and normal human relationships, thats why when he gets ito that world he wants to learn, to know hows it like to have a friend, to have a family, to have a girlfriend, he tried learning alongside Makima, but things ended up falling apart, so he decided to stop thinking by himself, Makima reveals to him that she doesnt want him to be happy or think by himself, and so he does - That is, until Pochita remembers Denji's dreams and makes him wanna follow em again, keep experiencing, keep learning the way the world works and accomplish what he truly wants. So yeah, Quanxi is kind of the opposite to Denji in that way imo

A thing about the Cosmos Devil’s Library, is that the design might come from Kamen Rider. Specifically Kamen Rider W’s Gaia Library, which is a endless void filled with rows upon rows of bookshelves in an orderly fashion rather than the Chaotic mess of Babel.

Quanxi's pulling the knife out of her eye patch tu turn into the devil, is eerily similar to Once upon a time in Mexico character, where he has important information in his eyesocket under his eye patch. Once upon a time in mexico is part of the desperado trilogy which has pop culture references to even trigun. Please bump this comment, I want to believe so hard since I am a desperado fan aswell.
