Worldwide and especially in Europe, research on earthworms, worm compost and vermicomposting is dramatically increasing. This is shown e.g. in scientific congress like CODIS 2008 in Switzerland.
Although the scientific community has shown good results in the use of worm products, there is nearly no modern system in Europe, which can produce large amounts of vermicompost. The Austrian VermiGrand earthworm farm has developed the advanced vermicomposting facility VERMIC 3.2. This system is a modular continuous flow vermicomposting system, which uses completely new methods for feeding and harvesting. The system can be heated, cooled and watered automatically, what makes it capable for use at wide temperature ranges. The VermiGrand earthworm farm does offer licences for this knowledge based system now worldwide. You can make best organic fertilizer with great value in large quantity. Use the ADVANCED VERMICOMPOSTING FACILITY ver. 3.2 and profit yourself from low investment and labor costs. Invest in a booming business line now and save years of self development and learning by doing!

Your castings look very dry. They are supposed to be kept damp in order to keep the bacteria alive. Are they as dry as they look?

Excellent observation! I had the same question some time back, and I started researching this: The beauty about this open system is, since the worms stay at the top, it can still be kept quite moist up there. What makes this soil/compost so rich is, that no water (worm tea) is dripping out from the bottom. It all stays in the compost. When it's completely dry in the lower part, it's very easy to harvest the compost. The worms will not be disturbed and in return they will work 24/365 for you.

Very professional & efficient looking system, excellent work. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you have a flaw with your system. One of (if not the) biggest benefits of worm castings is the microbiology that they contain, once they castings dry out, however those beneficial microbes die & the benefits they provide are lost. So I would HIGHLY recommend that you harvest the castings while they are still moist & biologically rich, otherwise they will essentially be no better than the standard thermophilic compost you feed the worms. Again, please correct me if I'm wrong here?

William C83 there might also be a loss of the soil structure of the worm castings in the sifting

I agree that those castings look all dried out and therefore ruin the whole reason for making them.

This looks so cool but clearly its not just castings falling through the flow through system. And if giant chunks of wood chips are falling through then so are the worms, cocoons, and other stuff that still will have to be separated through another sifting/ harvesting system. Seems to defeat the entire point of the flow through.

@@maggew microbes are actually aquatic , they require water, they dry it out to make processing easier. It’s a fine balance but this looks to dry for optimum microbe population which is the most critical component of castings.
