I live in North Jersey and as a rural retreat every now and then I take the hour and change drive out to High Point State Park, and when looking west or one of the directions, I can see Port Jervis. This is going to be my mini tour of that area I’ll usually just see from the highest point in New Jersey. thank you for this.

I remember chasing the 614 to Port Jervis and the show he put on there was awesome. Rudy is right, the PJ railyard was a mess and a bulldozer pulled the turntable. I didn't get a chance to see the museum yet and you've done such a great job with this video I can't wait to get out there. Thank you so much for doing this, you did an incredible job. The views off the trestle were terrific. I'm partial because it's my neighbor!

The west end of the Erie is worse! A super railroad GONE! If it wasn't for NY state the rest of it would be on the east end too.

Hoyt-SKermerhorn (pronounced "Skimmahawn" by old school Brooklynites); SEE-caucus Junction; and the circle-T in NYC train systems indicates an emergency telephone.

Very nice video. I enjoyed it. Please hop on the nation system of name trains. The ones under attack every year. But your video was great! And that is from a Erie - Lackawanna passenger fan! Next time try to eat at the Erie Hotel and restaurant too.

Too bad they didn't mention the Main Line that used to run from Port Jervis through downtown Middletown, Goshen, Chester, Monroe and Harriman. It then merged with the current line that continues to Secaucus, NJ. That moved all the service to a rural line that by-passed the towns mentioned previously and eventually meeting at the line in Harriman. It took the heart out of all those towns and abandoned the beautiful train stations. It made no sense, but is done is done ! There were also a lot more trains that used to use all these tracks because there was a train bridge that crossed the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie, NY. Those trains went from the Campbell Hall Junction in Orange County, NY and passed through the extensive rail yards in Maybrook, NY and continued through Walden, NY and on to New Paltz and Highland crossing over the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie. There was a fire on that Trestle bridge and was not repaired. It eliminated the only RR crossing over the Hudson for hundreds of miles north of NYC. The region never fully recovered after that and many businesses closed without RR service. The only good thing was that the RR bridge in Poughkeepsie was reopened as a rail trail for people to walk across the river. No vehicles are allowed just people and bikes. Hope this fills in a little history lesson for the area. I find it hard to believe that they would not repair such a critical crossing since there are no other ways across the Hudson for hours in either direction.🤔

Thank you for this information, it definitely does add more to the story. It does sound like a shame to not reestablish what was an important connection. Maybe someday it can be converted to a rail-with-trail
