How well I recall, now more than a half century later, as a youth thrilling to the original broadcasts, and how they led first to my spending my high school graduation prize money on a complete edition of the Sherlock Holmes novels and stories. I have been a devoted Holmsian, and avid reader in the genre ever since. What a delight at, now 80+ plus, to relive a cherished memory from so long ago!

I hope more people would listen to these. I love them and always will, even though I’m in my 40’s. The dialogue and pronunciation of these two knighted men is phenomenal, amazing to hear them together, thank you sooo much,

It doesn't get _any_ better than Sir Arthur John Gielgud as Sherlock Holmes and Sir Ralph David Richardson as Doctor John Watson.

Some years ago, my mom's close good friend Lee, was having a yard sale and I was there to help her out. One of the many things that she had for sale was this beautifully massive clamshell tome of audio cassettes that had old time radio dramas on them. I don't often beg for things, but I literally begged her to let me have it. It's something I absolutely treasure and it had this lovely rendition of Sherlock Holmes on it that you're hearing in the video above

Hahaha. What 9 people took the time to dislike a radio show from 1954. Hilarious. Goosebumps. I get goosebumps listening to this on a rainy day. Thanks uploader.

Nigel Bruce was a hero in real life, injured as a combatant, son of a baronet, but a mumbling incomprehensible aural catastrophe as he acted Dr. Watson. Sir. Ralph is music to ears.

This does not sound like the story of Holmes meeting Watson

At 15:17: " ... on an army pension of 11s 6d per day." That's about £4 10s per week. An adequate lower-middle class income in the last quarter of the nineteenth century, and Watson is complaining about it.

At 22:36: "Where in the tropics [sic] ... " Where, indeed! Parts of Afghanistan can be very hot, but it's not in the tropics, no more than California's Death Valley is. It's considerably north of the Tropic of Cancer. Sloppy editing, sloppy writing.
