A Greek word I learned recently that I adore is "Charmolypi". It can simply mean "Sad Happiness" or "the joy that emerges out of the middle of sadness and the sadness that merges out of joy." I think to me, that is a pivotal part of the Journey of Love. Amazing video and might be already one of my favorites you have ever created.

I recently saw for the first time "Japanese Story" (2003) directed by Sue Brooks (with a great performance by Toni Collette who is always great), which reminded me of the theme found in "Brief Encounter" of love ultimately including abject pain, though of course acknowledging that the experience is fully worth embracing. The inclusion of a beautiful Okinawan song ("Chinsagu No Hana") added a lot to the aesthetics and this painful theme. Seek it out (it's on Mubi currently)!

But the problem is that because human-society mainly only portrays love in the context of romantic love, people stupidly believe this is the only one true love to strive and work for in life while the under-represented platonic/nonromantic love of friends and found family that doesn't rely on procreation nor blood-ties can be just as if not more intense and meaningful even in the absence of romantic/sexual feelings, besides media one too many times has mistaken lust and infatuation and obsession for love making one too many people stay in abusive unhealthy relationships with people who might tell them they love them but if they did they wouldn't be physically and/or emotionally abusing their mate, and for the sake of preventing overpopulation and interpedence from leading into codependence not everyone should find romantic love or have children.

For a force supposedly so boundless, it seems we people are willing to limit Love so much. Maybe we can't help it? Is it fear? I think all people have yet to see what shapes Love can take, for Love is also shaped by culture, and I hope cinema can be a guiding art. Specifically I'm thinking of love between multiple people. Films about love triangles are plentiful, but I have yet to see a film in which the issue is overcome. If we're unable or too fearing to explore and show love between multiple people, how can we explore love on a bigger scale? Maybe people would call this something else, like compassion. But what's the difference, where does the line go? I believe the difference is in our heads and expectations. We should be careful in assuming that love's ultimate expression is grown in couples only. Thanks for letting me ramble.:)

This video was good but I feel like this channel has just basically become like what a boomer professor would force feed you in film or art school, which I didn't expect to happen honestly. (except they like some anime but don't dig very deep into it often, and they want more artsy fartsy video games to be made that uptight people can respect as "high art" lol). I'm a little older than the creators of this channel but I didn't grow up on og KZbin so... Maybe I just don't understand but I feel like there's a huge difference between older millennials and younger millennials? I came here originally more to be inspired than taught. Sorry if I insulted anyone with this comment, I feel like its important not to be afraid to be critical and not to censor ourselves too much even if we might be wrong sometimes.
