WolfDB, the Steelers predate the Browns by 20 years or so. We were around in the 30's, merged with the Eagles and Cardinals for a year during WW II. The (Baltimore) Colts and Browns were part of the AAFL (49'ers were another team). The Bengals came about when Paul Brown got fired from the Browns. The Colts, Browns, and Bengals were going to get distributed around the new alignment, and Art Rooney moved the Steelers to the AFC, to create a geographically tight division (NFL West has the NFC North, plus the Cards and Steelers at one point). We were also in the NFL Century Division (NFC East basically). Then the Colts left, the Browns became the Ravens, and the Browns came back. Paul Brown is the godfather of AFC coaches. Don Shula was under him, he went to the Colts, and he had Chuck Noll (played for the Browns I think, so did Bill Cowher). Johnny Unitas was drafted by Pittsburgh, but loved by Baltimore. Steelers had like 1 playoff appearance in 40 years until the Immaculate Reception. The AFC North house would have holes in a wall from where they threw each other into the walls, and all the chairs are loose because they've been knocked over one too many times. They'd all have scrapes, cuts and band-aids. They shared one bedroom for a long time, they get on each others nerves, when you talk to them all they talk about is how the others drive them nuts. But, as brothers, they like to terrorize the kids in the neighborhood. All of us would applaud a good swirly given to like the Jagoffs, Dolts, Tennesee Tuxedos, or the NFC teams. from the other side of town (and the oldest one remembers living on that side of town when younger... and getting beat up on the regular). How does that sound, AFC North brethren?

For most of these names, I get the reference, but there are some I still can’t figure out. Why is the Seahawks guy named Gavin, Cardinals named Eugene, Bucs named Sebastian, Broncos named Breck, Jags named Oliver, Texans named Elijah, and Patriots named Carl? As for the Dolphins, I get why the kid’s name is Danny, but why is the dad named Joe? I looked up Dolphins players named Joe, and I can’t find one who was a standout player as most of the famous football Joes played for other teams.

I loved the interactions between the Bengals and Browns character. I am huge Bengals fan from Central Ohio and this literally how a lot of Bengals and Browns fans interact now. If the Bengals aren't making a run and the Browns are on I will watch the game. This gives me something to talk to my Browns fans friends about and a lot of them pull for the Bengals now that Joe who is an Ohio High School legend and one the most popular Buckeyes backup QB's of all time is the QB. That said it wasn't always the case when I was growing up Bengals and Browns fans stayed off the topic of football when hanging out together because it would degenerate into non stop trash talking but that was back in the 80's before Modell left for Baltimore and the Bengals and Browns were competing against each other every year for the AFC Central. First it was Anderson vs Sipes and then Boomer vs Bernie. Now we just can't stand the Steelers and Ravens.
