So eloquent in his command of the English language, so accurate and clear in making his points clear and always backing up his opinions with historical facts. The man was simply put a genius. In the years to come he will be remembered and honored even more. RIP Prof. Ali A. Mazrui.

Prof. Mazrui passed away? I'm very sorry to hear that. "The Africans" was a valuable commentary to enlighten people about the Continent.

I used to watch this program in 1986-87, and I loved listening to Professor Mazrui. Most documentaries about Africa were narrated by white professors and hosts. We never heard the African perspective.

I started to watch this series when it was first released but I only got to the first 5 programs. So glad to discover it here and have the chance to watch it in its entirety. Mazrui was nothing short of a prophet. His mastery of oration, his ability to turn a potentially mundane narrative into a kind-of poetry was remarkable. And the lessons-- so wise and moving. I hope this work is never forgotten. Some school, some department somewhere should be named in his honor.

Knowing who u are is wisdom. We (Israelites) had lived in a village called Africa , until one day strangers came and scuttered us to the four corners of the world . such that the sun never sets on the area where the descendants of Africa area spread. We are not Africans we are the Children of Israel , and hence we are the true Israelites. We have been cursed for being stubborn against The Most High . that is why we have gone through all this. Our history is very available. It is in the Holly Bible .

Afro-consciousness ------------------💥 DR. ALI MAZRUI: the triple heritage of Africa Dr. Ali Mazrui, was a Kenyan American based scholar, prolific author, and a critic of Cheikh Anta Diop. He advances the theory: “The Africans: A Triple Heritage as opposed to African Renaissance through its classical culture. According to Mazrui, Africa is the home of traditional religion, Islam, and western Jeudeo-christianity. And that these three values systems must be celebrated as the triple heritage of African people forever. But Diop, who was also born in a Muslim family like Mazrui insist on authentic African civilization, history and culture unique to itself. Analysts believe that Mazrui was a great teacher, but no match for Anta Diop. It was also believed that he was speaking from a biased perspective as a believer and not scholarship. Look, Europe was once ruled by Islam but no one talks about the triple heritage of Europe today. Imagine a China or India with triple heritage? The fact of the matter is that Africa has one classical heritage: KUSH-KEMET. Islam and Christianity remain colonial legacies which have no future in a united Africa. Rest in power Dr. Mazrui. But we prefer the Diopian school of thought which takes us to our classical past (Kush-Kemet ) and to begin a cultural revolution.

I am nostalgic about this documentary but I tire of his promotion of Islam now as I did back then. This is not an attack on Islam but a critique on the extent to which his religious beliefs drives his narrative.

Because Islam is part of his/our culture just as Judaism, Christianity and all other religions native to the continent. But you and I are the descendants of Africa. That’s all that matters.

After 400 years We are not just African - We have become a distinct (tripartite) peoples. Very few of our peoples can even speak any languages of the continent. Moreover, what African Countries would let us return today without all the Red Tape and other barriers,, grant us citizenship and allow us to re-establish ourselves ? I am hopeful for a few at least.

I disagree with you. We CAN learn Kiswahil and the rest of the continent speaks French, Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic. There are DNA tests that can tell us from what peoples we originated from. We American Africans have to disregard the misinformation and make the effort to reach out to others in the Diaspora here in this hemisphere and on the continent. Read the newspapers from those countries, travel there, network. Make the effort. Our thinking has to be international in scope while leaving the American provincialism behind.

You're a punk if all that it takes to stop you is red tape. When others have given red blood for citizenship in a free African nation. Moreover it's not very difficult. Provide a DNA test to Sierra Leone, show your black skin in Liberia, get approval from a king in Nigeria, Ghana, or Gambia. Not to mention the french speaking nations also having programs for citizenship as well. Moreover the entire African diaspora is the official 6th region of the African Union. So legally you're already a citizen of a multinational organization by your very birth. If you claim to be something else it's merely because you do not want to be African. That's fine, admit that such is your sickness and let the rest come home.
