You really are an inspiration Ryan. As a cyclist, who was off the bike due to having a young family for 4 years. Your videos have really inspired me to push more and try and get back to the level i was. 4 years older, and 3 stone heavier, but this year, having followed your Journey, ive pushed myself and im seeing results. Im not quitting throug the winter either and have got on Zwift myself and this week attempted Alpe du Zwift for the first time. Keep pushing Ryan your videos have also inspired me to start a vlog in the new year. Thanks again and Merry Christmas to you and your family

Ryan. What can I say. You are a true inspiration. I am 60 next September. Rather than do the usual celebrations I am doing lands end to John o’groats in nine days on a cycle for motor neurone research. I lost my father to it 20 years ago and it seems right to do it. I had a similar lifestyle to you and weigh about the same. I found Zwift 3 months ago and I am trying to progress like you. The age gap doesn’t help me though. 😱😂. I did ADZ today for the first time and completed it. Didn’t eat right but finished in 131.35. A lot harder than I thought. Your wattage output is amazing. Please keep posting. I need to lose weight but these videos are so helpful and genuine. Merry Christmas and thank you.

I needed this video :) First, you're my hero, some time ago YT suggested me 'The Four Horsemen' video - ride which I tried 3-4 times and never completed (Alpine du Zwift takes everything I have and I can't finish last kilometers ;/). Congrats for finishing it, I'm very impressed! Your video inspired me to not give up and train more :) About 1% topic - yesterday, after 3 months I decided to ride Alpine du Zwift doing my 100% again, to check the progress and increase FTP... I did that (FTP +4w, took ~18sec less time) and I felt depressed, because the progress is small :/ Now, I see - I should be happy because I did some progress and I shouldn't feeling down, because it wasn't a huge increase as I planned. When I analyze this year (bigger picture) I feel impressed - during last 9 months I went from dying after a 1h ride with 210W to feeling ok with 1:30h ride 235W and going from AdZ 67mins to 58:53. Because of cycling and flat renovation (IT guy doing physical work) I gained weight (+5kg) this year, still losing some fat (my current fat level is around 13%). Finally, I feel better since I wanted to be heavier without being fatter :) Thank you for the video and possibility to sit and summarize my year!

If I get no more views and comments (I hope I do 😅) then this comment makes this video worth while. That fact you have the self awareness to appreciate the small wins means you'll succeed. Ryan, I think this is probably your most inspirational video to date. Great that you highlight about the small gains and making YOURSELF better, life is not a competition with anybody but yourself. If you can be better each day/week/month/year then you're winning. There will be times when you fail, but this is just a part of the journey. I think you need to start setting yourself more goals, as you're smashing every one that you've set so far.

Congrats on smashing the Alpe! Sub 90 is in reach. For myself, I ran a 10k in 54 minutes. More importantly, I’m back on full bike commute, which at the beginning of the year was totally unimaginable for me. 91 kg to a much more healthy (especially mentally) 77 kg version of myself. Yeah, this year rocked.

this is so inspiring. I'm a similar age to you, the last ten years I've been fairly fit but let it go a bit during covid. then a year ago I got really sick, had arthritis so bad I couldn't stand up, and was diagnosed with crohn's disease, it's a lifelong remitting relapsing sort of deal. 3 months of walking on crutches or with a cane really gave me a brush with frailty and it's terrifying. it's been a real journey back to health, my first goal was just being able to walk my dogs again. now I'm on the right meds and the disease is under control, but what you say about trying to be the fittest healthiest version of yourself in everything you do really resonates with me. thanks for making these buddy ❤

Incredible effort Ryan! Thanks for the time you spend making these vids. I appreciate it and love your content. What I struggle with is when I have a setback...when my intended improvement doesn’t go to plan and I don’t do as well as I had hoped. Ryan it is the youtubers like you that give a hefty fellow like myself inspiration, I started cycling in SEP 2021 as a early 30s yr old man at 300#. Currently at 280# after gaining some of the weight I lost back (bad diet choices). I completed Alpe Du Zwift for the first time in JAN 2023 and it took 90mins to get up the mountain. I started training for a race in APR in JAN as well, so in APR a week before the race I decided to try the mountain again, and made it in 83mins!! I started back into training for some races I want to do next year and in JAN I plan to tackle the mountain again and see if I can beat my APR 2023 time!! Keep being inspiring man!!

Fantastic work Ryan! I love your movies and I know that it takes a lot of work. But oh my what a way to crush your ADZ PB! Love the way you think. Relentless Forward Progress is the way to go, it drags with it Consistency, drive and it builds a strong character. You said it yourself that Consistency is key. My ADZ pb is 44:36 set on 2. October this year when I went up the ADZ just to se how far I have come with my progress. I had not done a try for over a year then on the ADZ and my previous pb was right over 60 minutes. So I must say I was surprised to see that I had sub 45 minutes in me. But the story is I started out for the first time way over 100 minutes in 2020. Tomorrow I will tick of over 22000km this year on a bike(Indoor an outdoor) and over 630 hours in the saddle. Never ever done so much in one year, my best previous year has been a bit over 10000km. "I do not stop when I`m tired. I stop when I`m done". Best of all from Winter Wonderland Norway :)

Ok, good but tough question especially as I don't yet know all the answers however I'd say that you should race and ride your way to at least level 15 and embrace all the failures (of which you will have alot) and use them as a springboard to something bigger and better, eventually and you'll know when this happens. Don't take yourself too seriously and have fun. Don't set yourself any targets yet other than learn the dynamics of the 'game' then set a decent FTP target to aim and race towards. "They" always say to be an expert at something, you have to put in at least 10k hours. This deffinitely applies to Zwift. I'm no expert but happily on the journey. Thanks for the watch and the comment. Welcome on board. 💪

Just found your channel, seen it in suggested vids so clicked and watched a few, including your Alpe Du Zwift videos 👍 Good stuff. Inspiring. Subbed. Will go back and watch a bunch of your others to see what I've missed. I started road riding in July last year (2022) at 39 yo, after wondering what the appeal of it was, especially all the climbing up hills? What is wrong with these people I thought? Well I got the bug, bought my own bike and rode the Fred Whitton Challenge this year in 9h 47m. Completed it without walking which was the aim. Turned 40 in june and am still riding but have really let it slip the last 6 months. Motivation has been at an all time low. I have been using road cycling/exercise to battle anxiety and depression. Have now thrown in swimming and sauna sessions 5 times a week. All in attempt to avoid reverting to SSRI. Regarding Alpe Du Zwift PBs....I just managed a 66 mins 4 sec which is 40 seconds quicker than my PB of 66:46...Really want a sub 1 hour, so must work my way back into it and hopefully acheive that goal. Have entered the ballot to ride the Fred next year too, so will hopefully get a place, it will give me something to focus on. Zwift really helped me train for the Fred over winter so I intend to use it again. If I get a spot next year I will be going for a time, not decided what time yet but I think I could shave at least 1 hour off, especially with managing to get the fuelling right. Getting enough fuel in on the ride was very difficult.

Always enjoy your blogs, some one who raced through the 70s just like to say British riders were basically amateurs who weren't state sponsored on drugs. They got a kick in in the peace and milk race by East Europeans yet still battled away. When lottery funding came in and the sport got " cleaner " we are now seeing fantastic performances by British riders across all disciplines. If back in the day a bike supplier refused to sell a bike to a certain Mrs Burton they would have been mad , not that she would have riden a foreign bike away 😅

Ryan, I love your videos and really look forward to them every week. Although I get the 1% analogy and it was a book you were quoting, but I think Brailsford and Steve Peters get a lot of credit, some of which might be due elsewhere. There is a great history of cycling with Tommy Simpson being world champion, Barry Hoban winning multiple tour stages and many others from the mid-60s onwards. As the comment above suggests the lottery funding and world class performance programme introduced by Peter Keen was pivotal and followed his coaching of Chris Boardman on the track was really where marginal gains originated. Having said all of that, Brailsford’s delivery of the ambitious plans with Team Sky and the work of British Cycling academy were key to improving cycling in Britain, but the riders themselves deserve the main credit.

Thanks for commenting Roland and for elevorating on Nigels point. My knowledge extends as far as the book I was quoting (Atomic Habits). I should have known better than to assume it was as straight forward as that. I was focusing on the 1% aspect more than anything but you're right say what you've said. I'm pleased you like my vids. I've got a big Zwift one coming this week Friday. 👍

You could be very successful in motivational speaking, maybe even write a motivational book. The bit where you went into your zwift room, switching on all the switches, made me think of back to the future when he turns up the guitar amps up to full before it explodes 😂

Not everyone has the luxury to pick and choose a job especially if youve got a family to support. I agree that mental wellbeing is important but so is paying the mortgage and I'd argue no one really knows if they like a job until they've been there at least three months, I always had this rule and if I hadn't I wouldn't of been able to achieve the funds that allowed me to walk away and setup my own business. Same rule applies to most of lifes requirements. 👍 Thanks for watching and leaving a comment Mark.

@@RyanCondon Agree to disagree on this one. 3 months, that's ridiculous unless you are a Martyr. Move on and put yourself under pressure to find something else. Like I said we aren't going to agree on that one. I was your 400th sub and well done on exceeding 2k but turning into "I know everything" channel. Good luck with your journey.

@MarkBruceUK It depends on your philosophy. Personally, I agree with 3months trial. I had multiple situations when I was doing sth which I didn't feel right. It helped my to understand many things, have a better picture in some topics. Thanks to these "trials" I was able to define multiple do and don'ts in my life :)

@@MarkBruceUK call me opinionated, that I couldn't disagree with. I think I'm pretty open that I don't know everything. On the flip of the convo, thanks for being my 400th sub. I remember your comment at the time. 👍
