I heard this song for the first time in years today in the fucking grocery store of all places. I almost fell apart in the goddamn freezer section. Every single lyric feels like it was written for a girl I used to love. It brought a lot of raw emotions back to the surface. I just had to hear it again to make sure they were real and it wasn't just a ghost.

I had the same, the first time I heard it. It's not only the lyrics, though. It's the whole building up of the song, to a climax of despair or something. It's a mixture of regret, desperation, the feeling of something slipping away, angriness,... It's all there.

Apparently the reason this song is so emotionally powerful is because lead singer Mikel Jollet spent three days in isolation writing this song the day after he (with his band mates present) encountered a former flame at a bar whom he realized he still had intense feelings for.

This song NEVER fails to touch me each tyme. I will never forget the first nyte I heard it. One of my best musician friends, the lead singer of A Friend Called Fire, was visiting from Chicago. This tune came on the background radio station. All other conversation was then "lost in a haze" during the next few minutes. We were definitely affected. I'm 16 and never dated anyone, most guys are immature and so they dont attract me as much,rarely happens but this one day I had a game at this school an hour away from mine so I went and so did the guys but like I said I wasnt intrested, our game had finished and we won, and then the guys turn. I was eating snacks and for some reason I turned looked at the boys wating seat to call in for the play and this boy. There was this boy who caught my attention and it wasnt much that he was good looking but like I felt something like a soul like if he were my soulmate. Or maybe just a good friend he was going to be but I left didnt say anything to him. Let you know that I am the shyest person ever. So I had this boy in my mind for 3 months and of course once I cam back from the game i did my stalking and found out all to know about him but i didnt follow him. So for 3 months this guy was in mind this stranger, and then i sent a request he accepted and followed back and texted me "hey" "I think I played your school" so we started talking but since i dont have a phone i think he got the impression that i was playing hard or wasnt intressted but i was and he the next day which i had school texted me multiple times "hey" and it want until i cam back from school and practice that i saw it and texted him back. The day after that he kept texting me multpile times but i didnt know till i came back. So short story I think he lost intrest since i didnt text him back and i told him i could only text him after 6 p.m. I think i ruined my chance with him because it felt like it was ment to be but i think he got the idea that i wasnt intrested and now we dont text anymore although we still follow eachother. And so when I read a qoute that says "if they really like you they would make the time for you" it breaks my heart because in this situation it does not apply. how could i ask my parents for a phone knowing there financial situation. welll i guess i missed out on the one. :(

i know that feeling been through that many times, feeling I misses chances and cursed missed opportunities, I know that this might not help, but keep in mind chances that we don't take risks we don't think of doing, don't always go away they come back in a different form. Maybe in this case this boy will come back and if not then it means someone else will come along someone perhaps better than the last. So don't stay down and don't dwell on it too much you just might miss a far better than coming your way.
