JESUS CHRIST, Brian MacDonald is incredible. He is so efficient, it looks like he is playing everything down an octave. And I've never heard anyone slot high A as well as he did at the end. Just fantastic.

Yep....Brian makes it look effortless......great guy, too. It will really be interesting to see what he tackles once he leaves the Note.

That diminished chord at 1:16 is SO sweet. Absolutely perfectly voiced, performed, and arranged. Beautiful!

Referred to as block chords, one of my favorite components of Jazz, and used to be so common in music... In the 1950s, there were these huge rich harmonic block chords by vocalists/instrumental/piano. It was gorgeous

2:12 all that screaming done with air. with the exception of the first two notes of the gliss, every other note was done using false fingering.....1st and 3rd valves. nothing but pure air power.

Thanks for posting these, Kevin. USA Armed Forces bands are and always have been the best of the best. Speaking of best of the best, is that the Bill Holman arrangement that the Tonight Show band used to do?

As well rehearsed as they are, you can still see that they are reading the music. Watch clips of original big bands....they have the music, but are not reading it...they are playing to the audience. of course, those bands played as a living day in and day out, so they really did know the charts. I guess I just don;t like to see, esp the sax players, hunched over with their faces in the music stand.

Sorry but this is NOT "Begin The Beguine". This is some other Tonight Show tunes thrown in with bits of Begin The Beguine. Not that it is bad. But I can't call this Begin The Beguine!
@calebwmsgolf4 жыл бұрын
Yet..... this is the arrangement written for Doc Severinsen to perform with the tonight show band
@calebwmsgolf4 жыл бұрын
Sooooo I’d say it is begin the beguine. Any arrangement has the same structure and tune. This one is just written for Doc’s style, which of course is incredible upper register playing.
