There is a significant difference between landing a piper cub and a large passenger Jet. There have been several instances of people being talked down in small planes.

Yeah I was about to point that out. I feel like them researching the instances where this actually happened in smaller planes would have been useful. Large passenger jets are different to fly than smaller planes, but passenger jets have autopilots and more electronic assistance helping stabilise the plane, so that might make the process of landing actually easier in some ways. Plus, a smaller plane is far more susceptible to turbulence and shearing forces, which might be an added problem all on its own.

Whilst it hasn't happened, nowadays all you really need to do is to be able to guide the person into keying in the auto-pilot into the correct auto-pilot (and subsequently the auto-landing) modes; the flying can all be done by the auto-pilot itself. (see "I'm not a pilot. Can I land a 737?" by Tom Scott and MentourPIlot) It's definitely still a hypothetical but way more possible compared to the scenario in this episode; something pointed out by the Subject Matter Expert in the conclusion of this episode.

23:06 that's got to be the nicest tandem skydiving landing that I've ever seen. Edit: kept watching the episode and Tory's landing was equally as nice. The tandem skydiver used for both jumps is one skilled guy.

A small plane is way harder to control for unexperienced ones because it has more inertia - which can hit you from behind once you overdo input. But if gentle a huge plane behaves much better.

I still say that the free fall catch up thing was kind of busted given that he only just caught them. To have caught them and acted out a scene like in the movie they’d have had to have jumped out of a spaceship!

I hope you all won't ever see a diver hit the ground. Weather from failure of main and reserve nor hanging on a way too small canopy distrusting the rears... The moment a body hits the ground just to be kicked up 3 ft. is ver hard cover. RIP my dear friends. It was worth it. Blue sky.

Opning a chute while one is rcing headdown towards you...bad bad idea. As the Pax pac threw their deploy the other diver was just passing. Who in hell planned this? Guys, you could have been dead with that. It was closer ou may think it was. I was terrified seeing him pass!

33:0 sucks. The box position is correct, the flow hits the full flattened body surface and more resistance can be intended by wearing wide suits. Maybe to level with a very huge light person. The head down position is tested wrong because as it is called head down the flow does not hit the body surface flattened out with alligned arms and closed legs but the perpendicular surface of head, shoulders and angular projection of the body which is much smaller. Once you maintain a propper tracking position you even feel a bit lift which should be prevented in the name of science. You're welcome.

It can be fairly common in light aircraft with mixed result but this is mainly because they don't have common gauge and control surface locations for the atc controller to know

@@allanshpeley4284 Still hasn't happened with a commercial liner, and considering the myth is pretty old, most people definitely wouldn't have known how to fly/land a 707.

Opening the mouth during freefall not wearing a closed helmet is ... well ... fun at first but pretty damn stupid 😅 It just looks silly and feels stupid. So I call it silly stupid 😂 btw that is why we use signs like "no more" before separation... What is going on, I never saw a dude taking my toggle to lay my canopy down 😂 That is ridiculous 😂 I will claim for such service personel immediately!
