The Airstream Life Begins!

How do you feel about learning new things with your RV? Does it feel like stress to you? Does it excite you? We were clearly over confident in our RV skill set and the excitement of a new RV combined with the fatigue of travel and trying to remember everything we learned during our Airstream walk-thru had us working hard to figure it all out. We hope to have everything making sense for our needs before we pull out for the summer!

We are starting to get it all figured out and we know we will probably still make adjustments as we go but we have laughed a lot at how different it is.

Please check to verify whether the coach is equipped with sealed bearings. If it does, purchase one and carry it in the coach. We had one fail in northern BC and the bearing is very difficult to source in Canada and possibly the US as well. Dexter informed us that there were only two of these bearings showing as available in Canada, and it would take days to get it shipped to where we were. Luckily we carried a spare for the repair, and ordered a second one to replace the one used to get us going. One look at the interior wiring will alert you to the fact that there is no relationship between price paid and build quality. Please consider joining the Airstream club and attending rallys. It is an incredibly friendly group and you will learn a lot to help you repair and avoid repairs.

There's an exhaust fan in the range hood that vents to the outside. You'll need to go outside and unlatch the cover to the exhaust vent. (Resecure it before you travel.) A by-product of burning propane is mositure. When you turn on the exhaust fan in the range hood the moisture will blow to the outside.

I've binged your videos, love them by the way, so be prepared for lots of comments. LOL! I watched on the tv where I can't comment so came to the computer and now trying to remember which video was which, so I may comment on the wrong video. :) First of all, you guys are great, we'd love to meet you guys one day, I'm sure we'd be fast friends. We got our first Airstream last October. When you were hunting for yours I kept saying..."Get the 30 ft!!!". So glad you did. we have the International Signature 30 rbt and love it! ours is a 2019. We've been making a few modifications and have a few more ideas. I hope you'll join the Airstream club and attend rallies and caravans. We are currently on the road traveling up the west coast on the 101 from our home base in Northeastern AZ. A 3-month journey that will end in Rock Springs Wyoming for the International Airstream Rally, we're super excited about it. We are also in a Caravan this Fall driving the blue ridge parkway with 20 other airstreamers. As for towels...we have hooks over our bathroom door and hang both of our towels on the inside of the bathroom door, as well as my hair towel on the hook screwed to the door that was there when we bought it. I'm sure you have a de-humidifier, those help for sure when it's humid or when using the furnace. Also be sure to use the vent over the stove, it helps a lot too, just be sure to unlatch it outside and re-latch it for travel. I am STILL on the hunt for the perfect Ottoman. I sit on the L-part of the sectional so Dee really needs an Ottoman. I'll keep looking. :)

We would love to meet up with you!! Yes! We just got our membership packet last week but we already planned our itinerary back in February so we can’t make Wyoming. We so wish that would have worked out. That will be a fun start to your summer!! We will definitely work on the Appalachian Trail one. Looking forward to rallies. We love meeting friends on the road! Especially ones with dogs 😍

We had told Airstream many times that they need to install the bathroom door so that it opens toward the rear of the trailer instead of opening towards the front. Makes perfect sense. Also, you can install a towel bar on the inside of the Bathroom door (at the top) to give you a second towel bar. The twin beds are the BEST!

Oooooooo. We really like that idea! Definitely going to look into a towel bar there. We find a lot about the Airstream doors baffling. The lock goes opposite of a normal deadbolt and the handle lifts instead of pushes. We’ve finally got the hang of it but we spent the first week looking like a bunch of drunks trying to break into an Airstream!

It's so interesting you both ran into the same "issues" if you want to call it that. First world problems, right? :) We found an ottoman as well at Home Goods. When we travel, we just put it in the corner where the couch curves (straight ahead as you look inside from the door).For the towel hook we found an over the door hook and hang it over the door on the outside that goes into the bathroom. We also have a an additional towel hook on the wall to the left of the towel bar and have it up pretty high so it's out of the way--that way we both have a spot for our towels to dry. Whenever we take a shower we hang one over the door hook so we can just grab it and dry off in the shower.

I love your videos. We first started watching your trip to AK. Great info there, thank you 😊. We are going this summer. We don't have an airstream, but in our rockwood 2109s, I got two ottomans from Walmart that are storage cubes, too. They work great with our couch and provide added storage for whatever you need. I replaced the 60 lb table that stored behind the couch with 2 TV trays for when we eat inside. I also use an over the bathroom door rack with 4 hooks for towels and have command hooks in the bathroom up high for towels when we aren't using the shower. I put a clip clothes pin over the towel and hook to keep them on during travel. Happy RV'ing!

Thank you for all the great tips!!! We were definitely wishing this ottoman had storage in it. We looked at the Rockwood. We love so much about them. We would say that was probably our runner up choice for a travel trailer and we came so close to getting one. At the end of the day, we were still worried with the entry height for the dog ramp. Old Silas has been pulling off the ramp successfully for 4 years now but he is struggling with steeper inclines now and we are worried about a fall so we got as low to the ground as we could go.Happy travels to you!!!!

@lifebetweentheditches1307 Our Molly is a 7 yr old, 75 lb Lab, so I understand your concern for Silas. Our furbabys rule! Molly is young enough that getting in the camper isn't a problem, yet, but our 11 year old "grand-dog-er" Bailey, so far, doesn't have a problem getting in our camper. And heaven knows, SHE rules, LOL! She is also a 75 lb Lab. I love your Airstream, and I know you are going to make wonderful memories....along with great videos! Can't wait to see them 😍

We are on our fifth RV and our first Airstream. We bought it last fall. I find using Command Forever Classic Large Metal Wall Hooks in the shower, bathroom and bedroom look and function perfect. From hanging up anything… bath towels (we installed several on the shower wall) hand towel (by the bathroom sink) to hats, jackets, and purse (installed in the bedroom and closet). They look like they belong in the Airstream. We are still finding ways to maximize functionality and keep it beautiful in the process. Hope that helps.

It does! We added silver suction cup hooks in the living area but haven’t addressed the bathroom yet. We are still very unsure about our decision. The downsize was needed and the Airstream is gorgeous but it is a big adjustment. We are always happy to hear from others that made the same change!

I understand. We downsized from a 43ft fifth wheel. But approaching retirement and wanting less maintenance of things like slides, the Airstream made sense to me. My husband had always wanted one. Me, not so much. However, I was surprised at how roomy it felt and it’s grown on me. And I’m amazed at all the light from being practically surrounded by windows! Loving it!

Not sure if your fan is the same as mine, but the speed has to be on 1 to even open. That took a few days to figure out😉 We bought a storage ottoman and my hubs is going to put wheels on it so it is easier to move around! We also us the clothesline in the shower for towels and added over the door hooks on the shower door for extra towel/clothes. Happy travels😊

Do you find that sofa comfortable as the back is so low, so there is no support for your head.

We aren’t sure yet. At first blush, we’ve found it much more comfortable than we thought but we don’t feel like we will really know until we’ve had a few weeks in it. We will definitely let you know when we’ve had time to figure it out.
