So a few things: 1. Hidan's Ring: San, or Saam in Cantonese, is a number that represents life. This, in turn, can easily sum up Hidan's immortality, as he's the only character we know of in Naruto to have obtained true immortality. 2. Kisame's Ring: The South is considered to encompass the water element of the zodiac. This needs no explanation, as Kisame's primary chakra release is water, but like you said it also embodies the spiritual and the unseen. Which can represent Kisame's loyalty and desire for that which we cannot see. 3. Kakazu's Ring: The North, in contrast, encompasses the earth element of the zodiac. This can help represent Kakazu's earth release, and since earth represents the terrestrial and tangible, his love of money also plays into this. 4. Orochimaru's Ring: (空) Kuu, or Sky/Void, can easily represent Orochimaru's need to move beyond what his life has given him. Sky representing his aspiration with Void representing the emptiness he can never fill. However, this also ties into 'Bazi' or the Void-Heaven. That being, it's the ultimate form of corruption in which all things good turn bad. Which represents both Orochimaru as a character and his relation with Sasuke.

Does manga or anime specifically say how those rings are read? For example your said Konan's ring 白 = byaku, but "byaku" is the Japanese reading is "shiro", and there are two Chinese readings, "haku" and "byaku". Typically that kanji as is would be read with the Japanese reading and then when paired with another kanji it typically takes on the Chinese reading. "Byaku" isn't used as much, "haku" is more common BUT in the word for "white lotus 白蓮" is read "byakuren" but can also mean "pure heart" which is very fitting for Konan. I guess I just really want to know any official readings given to the rings by Kishimoto since it could make the meanings more obvious

Also for Kisame’s ring, people who left handed are called “southpaw” and the ring is on his left hand. So that could be a tie in. As well as him being depicted using the sword with his left hand. It’s not super consistent but more often than not he uses it with his left hand.

The three and triangle could be deeper. The triangle is the strongest shape which could be a symbol of Hidan’s faith or resolve being unbreakable. It also is a symbol of hierarchy. This could mean that like his partner the akatsuki are not the top of his priority list but his god is.

You forgot to discuss Orochimaru’s 空 “ku” which means “sky”. I remember someone mentioned that he is a snake who always look up to the sky and wishes to have wings to fly.

the north for Zetsu's ring could also refer to Madara's hideout, as it was revealed that Kabuto only found Madara's corpse/the hideout because Zetsu let him do so to speed up the war to reach the plan's endgame. the mist village is east. unless there's fuckery/retcon i'm missing where the map they always use isn't facing the right way/traditional cardinal directions being correct in how the map is shown to us... the same way, all the god dam time. yeah him being south fits with him partnering with Itachi, the guardian of the south. it's also interesting for Kisame's character, him having a past reputation for/viewing his "personal mission" to be killing his comrades. him in the Akatsuki not knowing that they were lead by the man he was most loyal to before joining them, being Obito, Kisame being that fiercely loyal to them as a whole isn't entirely true. Itachi earned his respect but there were others like Hidan and Kakuzu where he admitted he wanted them dead, along with Orochimaru. yes, those 3 were very disloyal to the cause, or in it for other reasons, but until he found out Obito was leading them he left because Itachi was the one keeping him there. Kisame was only truly loyal to 2 of them, the rest were just tolerated aside from the 3 he mentions hating.

Was it ever stated if the rings were Obito’s idea or were they something carried over from when Yahiko started the akatsuki? If it was obito’s addition to the group we could infer the rings may have something to do with the 10 tails/kaguya… idk what without further research but something to consider, and if it’s a hold over from yahiko then it could revolve around the rain village as that was their home and purpose Edit 1: side note the Pearl ring also meaning “Shogi general” could also refer to Sasori since his fighting style is puppeteering large groups like a general commanding an army and the Pearl or sphere side of the ring could refer to Obito as his master plan revolves around the sharingan an eye jutsu, Pearl eye etc

If I recall, Kaguya was not added until far into the War Arc, and I've heard claims she only got introduced to replace Madara, as Kishimoto couldn't think of a way to believably kill him. My interpretation to Kisame's 'South' ring is associated with the saying 'When everthing goes south' because Kisame can execute what he needs to do when something went out of plan. Like killing his comrades for his mission ordered by Fuguki when things went out of plan , also commiting suicide to prevent the konoha from getting intel from him, and also he was assigned by Obito to be partnered with Itachi to keep watch of him incase Itachi tries to move against his plans cuz Obito is quite aware of Itachi's intentions.

In Hidan case he also has 3 pionts scythe, 3 steps to kills someone aka. 1 draw blood 2 draw circle 3 stab his heart. Hidan as you mentioned was technically fourth partner but his immortality deemed him final which could be that Kakuzu killed 3 before him. Zero meaning nothing, absence, or empty can refer to how Pain is not the real leader of Akatsuki. It could also mean that the Deva path is empty, its a corpse. It's my interpretation that it refers to how Nagato is empty inside. Nagato doesnt really have a personality or ambition of his own. He just gets manipulated by whoever has the stronger force of personality in his life. First Jiraiya, then Yahiko, Obito, and finally Naruto.

More on Itachi's ring. The writing "朱" is used to signify cinnabar in a chinese idiom "近朱者赤，近墨者黑", which is red in colour. The direct translation of the idiom means being near cinnabar will make someone turn red, while being near ink will make someone turn black. In other words, it is used in circumstances to paint the picture of "being near good people will make someone turn good, while being near bad people will make someone turn bad" Which is very interesting in Itachi's case because even though he was a spy for the Leaf Village and is forced to be a member of Akatsuki for such a long time, Itachi never actually joined the "bad side", and he still kept the "朱" in him, the good side. But probably just reading too deep into this 🤣

I'm confused on where these translations are coming from. They seem like major stretches to fit the narrative rather than the narrative fitting the actual rings. That being said, I'm offering some alternatives, some are just as much of a stretch and it's all in good fun obviously! I liked the video! Crimson:　（朱） （しゅ）It's itachi. You know why it's crimson. Konan: 　（白）（しろ・はく）White, angels, you said it yourself. Deidara: （青）（あお・せい）Sei can also refer to youth, hence why Gai is constantly called Konoha's blue beast. Deidara is youthful, the youngest of the akatsuki in attitude. Zetsu: （害）（がい）If you take gai as a homonym, it means outside(r). A common theme in japanese is to mix literal and homonym readings, making Zetsu the "Outside Boar", or, The ravaging outsider. It fits. Alternatively, a boar kicks off the whole birth of Zetsu (the boar attacking Asura) As for the Kisame: 南　（みなみ）(south). Minami is a common japanese given name and often is read as "the south sea" or "the ocean". There you go. What describes Kisame better than the ocean? Hidan: 三 (さん）(Jashin requires 3 strokes to please) Kakuzu: 北（ほく）(hokuhoku means something baked, hot, or warm. More relevantly, go back to the concept of using homonyms:　帆空 means empty and is read, you guessed it, hoku(u). And you missed? orochimaru, having sky (空）which again, means void or sky. Orochimaru is "void" because his interests aren't with the akatsuki at all, and he betrays them. His spot amongst them is void.

6:32 Obito's aging process should actually have sped up. Btt of the War Arc Obito should have been looking like One Sharingan Madara. Think about it. Hashirama died an early death in battle because he spent all of his mytotic cells early. A healing factor wouldn't slow your aging, you would die sooner. Wolverine should be dust by now.

Why is Orochimaru's ring not included? Sure he defected but it's already established that his ring is important. Also since the Gedo Mazo has Ten fingers it's somewhat expected for there to be Ten rings, which would make everything easier. Unless one considers that the rings are not to represent the members but to represent each of the Biju's, at which point Nine rings seems to fit better than the lack of 1 to complete the set. Though it then raises the question.🤔 If they're supposed to be Ten rings then what would be the function of the Tenth Ring? While your explanations for the rings placement seems to make sense I question if the holograms and body double techniques they used could be that the rings act in a similar way to Pain's paths piercings, that being a transmission of the user's chakra in order to sustain the technique. When Gaara was captured and Shukaku was being extracted we see both Itachi and Kisame sitting in a rock and focusing on a hand sign, later we learned that those two also bought time as a distraction and performed the sealing at the same time. When one considers the fact that multitasking three different techniques, yes 3 (the body double, the projection and the sealing), and we pair it with confirmation that without Orochimaru's ring the sealing takes longer having an item/tool to serve as a medium would make everything a lot easier and safer than having to regroup every single time.
