The ironic thing is that the Mexican 🇲🇽 soldiers who fought in the Alamo are the good guys, the heroes, since they fought slavery in Texas, (abolished throughout Mexican territory). The US-American 🇺🇸 settlers who balkanized the Mexican province of Texas, wanted to preserve slavery in Texas. The bad guys, the villains, are the US-American immigrants, since they betrayed the trust of Mexico, they balkanized the Mexican province of Texas, to maintain slavery as a legal system. They did not have the right to separate Texas from Mexico, it is as if Canada I would like to separate New York from the United States. Unfortunately, history is written by the winners, not the defeated.

One of the most hypocritical, dishonest pieces of cinema ever made. If you believe Wayne's monologues in the movie you might think that the defenders were fighting for freedom. In reality they were fighting for the right to keep slaves. Wayne either knew this perfectly well but decided to overlook the fact or (and this would be my guess) was totally ignorant of the history. John Wayne was not exactly the brightest bulb on the tree.
