John / nice job on this episode. I need to check out the DAMNED. I know the other two. It’s Metallica at this point , but I’m always open to change. Thanks for your time 👍💯

Thanks Gary! Oh yeah, the Damned are worth checking out. I came into their music late but I listen to them a lot now. You're welcome and thank you! Cheers! 👍💯

I loved how you said DRAMA like Martin Popoff. I'm only familiar with the Metallica album. By this point, I was mostly off the Metallica train as I'm a bigger fan of the Cliff Burton era. I would like to check out the Damned and Prince versions though! Great concept Brother!

The metal fans locally in VA/NC loathed the Black Album, I actually liked 1/2 the tracks and I still do because I wasn't expecting thrash.I mean Justice has 2 fast tracks , sandwiching slower songs ,so if anything that was the "sell out"...Trust me,that's not a Prince album to seek out lol

Thanks JC! Haha! I rarely say DRAMA like that too but what the heck! Okay, I stayed on the train until Load. I like it now but ooh it disappointed me when it came out. Thanks so much Brother! Cheers!

Great show again John! Gonna have to go with Metallica for me as its the one I'm most familiar with! A lot of the deeper songs still hold up for me. While it is a step on the more commercial direction, no one can deny the monster sales that album had! Have a great upcoming week my friend

Thanks Logan! Yes, back in the day some of these deeper cuts like "Of Wolf and Man", "My Friend of Misery", and "The God That Failed" didn't do much for me but I now love them! Thanks, you have a great week too my friend! Cheers!

I was half expecting Jay-z’s the Black album to be in this mix too. The only one of these I have heard is Metallica’s. And I will be honest, as I’ve told you before, Metallica gets played so much around here that I don’t remember the last time I sought them out to listen too. That “the Damned” album sounds fantastic! I am adding it to my list this week. Goth would be a huge influence on Symphonic Metal bands like early Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil. And of course that first album and then half the second Evanescence album drew on goth influences. And then when I was in middle school and high school goth was a fashion trend. As for Prince, he’s hit or miss with me but he’s such a great guitar player people don’t realize he’s an outstanding bass player too. Fantastic show, and I love this idea.

Ha, I didn't know that Jay Z also put out the Black Album until you mentioned this. Apparently, hip hop was totally off my radar at that point. Yeah, I highly recommend The Damned's Black Album. "Curtain Call" is a divisive track and I love it. The rest of it is really strong. You know, that's true! I heard Lacuna Coil back in the '90s and I knew that about Evanescence as well. Totally agreed. Prince was a badass musician! Thank you Jake! Plenty more to come.

@ John, I honestly cannot tell you anything off that Jay-Z album. I am not big into hip hop, but that album was HUGE around my freshmen year of high school. I think I was one of two music buffs that didn’t have that album. Super excited to listen to this album by the Damned.

Great subject. I have thought about this myself. The only difference is I put Spinal Tap in my 3. (Never listened to the Damned)

I'll pick this based on # of tracks I like from each .. I just don't like much of the Prince NPG/Symbol era.Fink,Wendy, etc must've been more crucial than an avg listener would think because lots of the post Revolution material sucks.I like maybe 2 tracks and see why he didn't want the LP released...The Damned album has Lively Arts,Blackout, and a couple others I like but I enjoyed other UK acts such as Joy Division & The Cure far more...From the Metallica album i like God That Failed,Unforgiven,Holier,Sad But True,Nothing Else Matters,Struggle Within and i absolutely despise Wherever I May Roam..So that's 2 Prince, 4 Damned and 6 for Metallica, the winner. I wonder if the cover idea stemmed from Back In Black. Well millions of people have both, despite neither being among the better albums from those bands.

Thanks Eric! lt's interesting that you mentioned this about Prince's Black Album. Although I bought this as a new release, these recent listens were my first in maybe 20 years or so. After revisting this, I am thinking he had this pulled in '88 because it just wasn't that good. I mean this coming out after Sign o' the Times may have hurt his career big time. I really like these huge selling albums from Metallica and AC/DC but yes, I agree they made stronger ones. Cheers!

@@JohntheMusicNut Yep, I actually think Warner complained because Prince wanted to release too many sub par albums,if they had been 1999 type level, they would've been churning 'em out like Mt Dew flavors. Chaos + Disorder was one I got from BMG or Colombia for free, only listened twice. I think the only Jay Z song I liked was Renegade written by Eminem who I don't like either,I'm just guessing his Black album isn't as bad as the Prince one.

Shhh. Don’t tell anyone I don’t own any of them. I know the Metallica effort pretty well and it would be my favorite by the band. I thought maybe you’d sneak in Spinal Tap.
