No more that 15 years were necessary for the early types of photography, Daguerreotype, Calotype, Salt print, Cyanotype, Collodion (Ambrotype, Tintype), Albumen. Photography was in its infancy and nobody knew which method will prevail.

In a way, these are inventions to solve the issue of reproducing, keeping the image and make it archival. Do they influence the photographic practice? yes! Does photography exist beyond the boundaries of its possible means of reproduction? yes, as well.
