Great stuff, really excellent. My thoughts about the genre...I kind of love it. There's a straight line from doo-wop to P-Funk, the latter being some of the very best music I know, so that lineage in itself would put doo-wop in a position of significant honor. Also, I do enjoy a nice 50's rock 'n' roll listening session on occasion and doo-wop is one of the essential flavors to be generously included. It'll be fun to keep the 50s thing going with Elvis for the next installment.

Well yeah - the Parliaments started out as doo-wop.

@@VaylorTrucks Indeed they did, and George C's imaginative vocal arrangements throughout his body of work reflect the time he spent in that world.

Not a big fan of doo-wop either but I understand how others might enjoy it. As for vocal groups, the Mills Brothers were also know as Four Boys and a Guitar, almost all of the "instruments" on their early recordings were vocalizations, from bass to horns, played through their hands or over combs. For me their best recordings were with Louis Armstrong on Decca, particularly The Old Folks at Home, where Louis lets everyone know exactly how he feels about being made to record minstrel songs. As for vocal groups worth listening to, The Boswell Sisters were in a league of their own. Shout, Sister Shout is a masterpiece. And let's not forget that prog vocal group, Gentle Giant.

I'm not a fan of doo-wop, there's something about that 50's singing that doesn't appeal to me. I like the Mills Bros and The Ink spots style much more, I guess that I'm old fashioned for a prog fan.
