I have a 2016 Specialized Sirrus Elite Disc.......basically the Sirrus 3.0 version but for 2016. Very solid bike and fun to ride around on for both fitness and leisure. I would recommended either the Sirrus 2.0 or 3.0 as really great bikes. In fact, I would try out this type of style from any of the other major manufacturers like Trek (FX), Cannondale (Quick), or Giant (Escape) and see what fits you best. If you don't/aren't into a road style bike or a big trail/mountain bike, the hybrids are a terrific all around bike. They all ride the road great and do well on mostly flat, fire road type trails/standard walking trails. These bikes are simply great commuter, city, road, light trail, fitness, and leisure bikes. You can ride 20 or 30 miles on them without difficulty or just hop on and ride around the neighborhood on these types of bikes.

I bought an almost identical Sirrus back in 2015. I thought I made a good choice and thought I got a good deal. But I only rode it a few times and never did take to it. It was not a fast bike at all. I don’t remember what size tires it had, but it needed faster ones for sure. Recently I got a 2022 or 2023 Trek FX 1 and I’m frankly surprised. It looks like the same type of bike as the Specialized was, but for some reason it’s nicer. I don’t know why, but it just rides better.

The only bad thing for me is a little too much pressure for me on the handlebars which I wanted to avoid.....but it was a comfortable boring ride, or this! It looks like pretty standard issue for a fitness hybrid in the ~$600 range. I am, however, happy to see that these bikes are slowly getting away from 3x drivetrains. While 3x systems may have some limited utility (for instance, long distance touring), the sort of folks who would buy this type of bike would never need it, nor know how to properly use it. Entry-level bikes would be better served by 1x drivetrains -- they are easy to use and idiot-proof. They are also lighter and have a nice, clean look. But bike manufacturers could no longer market low-end bikes as "21 speeds," or the like.
@Jamesthebikeguy5 жыл бұрын
Relatively standard, but a nice new frame and wide tire clearance for a Fitness bike
@bonzobanana14 жыл бұрын
I wish 1x would be the norm, with wide ratio cassettes I think we should move on from front derailleurs. It's a horrible engineering solution and not easy to use or maintain especially on lower end drivetrains using freewheels which normally have a slight wobble which means dialling in shifting is more difficult. When cyclists are riding along with buses and articulated lorries etc you don't want them struggling with their gears and shifting which takes their concentration away from the road same logic can be applied off-road where a lapse of concentration could cause a major injury or even death. So many of the gears overlap anyway and the chain line can be wrong if you use the gears incorrectly it's just a rubbish engineering solution. It's like when you see a sales assistant explaining using gears to customers, you have 21 gears but you don't use big-big or small-small because of the chain line and you may find it won't shift into big-big and the chain will become too loose if you go small-small and the customer replies how many gears can I actually use then and why is it called 21 gears if at least 2 you can't use. It just becomes a farcical conversation and the customer is looking slightly confused and feeling like they have made the wrong buying decision.

@MrAmorti4 жыл бұрын
Next model up gets a carbon fork at almost 3lb lighter. Might as well start there. You could go 1x, but it's not really in the recipe of the bike which is more or less using a compact race bike chainset. Next model up gets a hollowtech2 bottom bracket, that'll be most of a pound in weight saved.

@MrAmorti4 жыл бұрын
@@imstillhereileft7530 it's pretty easy to upgrade bicycles until the latest stuff where the standards keep changing. You can swap out your triple chainset for a single with a hollowtech2 bottom bracket, this will save a bit of weight (a lot of the savings will be the BB) and complexity. Then you need a cassette with a bigger range to make up for the gears you lost, you can use 9 or 10 on your existing wheel. Then you 'need' a clutch derailleur to compensate for the big cassette. You can live without a clutch but it'll be noisy and clunk on the chainstay. If the cassette you get has more than the 9 speeds you already have in the rear, you'll need a new shifter. As you've changed the chainset and cassette, it'd be a false economy not to change the chain, and anyway necessary if you increase the number of gears in the rear. Sounds like hard work on a bike you'll trade up soon anyway.

I'm surprised Specialized jsut calls the forks hi-ten steel I was expecting 'Premium advanced steel' or similar, perhaps their normal marketing man had a day off. I would guess the frame is 6061 aluminium because of the dropped stays as it handles flexing a bit better than 7005 but you never know. I have a Specialized Sirrus Triple from the 90s, surprisingly that is a road bike but now Specialized uses the 'Sirrus' name for hybrids which is a bit confusing. Anyway looks a nice bike and glad they went for a high ten fork, a fork failing is the most dangerous component on a bike and steel forks are by far the safest, CF forks have a fairly high tendency to fail especially aluminium steerers bonded with CF blades and aluminium forks do suffer from fatigue over the long term, maybe 5 years into use when the aluminium strength has deteriorated there is the possibility of failure but most importantly high ten steel forks make the bike far more comfortable at the expense of a little weight compared to aluminium forks. This is probably the safest most durable Sirrus with the lowest maintenance requirements but definitely not the fastest.

I’m around 5’10 5’11. Ideally what size would be great for me in this exact spec bike ? I wish I could go test them out but unfortunately bikes are like gold & diamonds atm. Anyone around my height have any clue? Maybe some inseam measurements to help
@Jamesthebikeguy4 жыл бұрын
Size Large for sure.

@@Jamesthebikeguy Hi James thanks for responding to me. from the crotch to my ankle its about 29/30 inseam and to the floor probably 32 or so. im so misconstrued. I asked this on the same bike with other youtubers and some gave me medium. Can I ask what your height and inseam is ?

Michael Emanuel can’t speak for the sirrus, but I do have an fx 2 disc which serves me well. It’s got a 3x in the front, instead of the 2x that the sirrus has, but I find it pretty useful because there’s a lot of hills where I live and I’m not the strongest cyclist. Best thing is to try both out, instead of being swayed by the words of a guy on the internet (me).

The future shock is HORRIBLE! Can anyone remember Cannondale doing this in the 90s? Please stop bopping please stop! ha ha This version is a nice ride without that awful shock in the head set....who thought of that?
@mrhanky55555 жыл бұрын
Joe N Whats so bad about it? I think you can adjust the stiffness in them.
@Jamesthebikeguy5 жыл бұрын
This is not the same thing as Headshock. This is axial suspension, and thus works entirely different. Does not affect bobbing or Geo changes.
@bonzobanana15 жыл бұрын
Always keep away from proprietary stuff like that, in the long term spares can dry up or be very expensive and some thicker tyres both front and rear will do more for suspension than that anyway. This bike pretty much delivers everything you need sometimes less is more.
