Keeping an eye on the PHEV. It should cost around $31k base, so probably $36k in luxury form.. and then get around $5500 tax credit Federal (doesn't get the $7500 due to battery size but still not bad), $1000 state credit in CA, and $750 utility credit. That makes the Niro PHEV a pretty solid deal in my mind. But I'm also curious about the EV version as well as new Bolt EUV since they're dropping the price.

I wouldn't classify the Niro as an SUV. It's a wagon - but a really good looking wagon, imho. The EV version would be a perfect commuter/light weekend warrior for me - provided pricing isn't outrageous.

Kia and Hyundai are making nice vehicles and have a great warranty. Before they started the 10yr/100k warranty, car makes where only offering 3yr/36k. Most now offer 5yr/60k.

The best part with it. Is that charge port remains in the front. It me it is ridiculous how few EV manufactures have follow suit with were Nissan chose to place it on the Leaf. As it is by far the best place overall. As most people don't back into their driveway. Unless they need to.

Same here-! Currently driving a 2022 niro EV and it's a great vehicle. More range than a tesla model 3, great usable shape, and very quick off the line (in sport mode). Love that the new Niro will have Vehicle 2 Load! Will be very useful for car camping!

I really like this style of the niro. Finally one that looks good enough to drive on the road. I think the deciding factor will be the price and time to charge from 0 to 80%. (EV).

We've been driving a Leaf for 6 yrs, and that time to charge was our question originally as well. From practical experience, however, you will never drive the car down to less than 10-20%, so a recharge on a 240v home charger takes just a couple of hours (and the Niro supports a faster charge rate, so it would charge much more quickly).

They cut the torque for the new model to juice the range and "smoothness". I have the 2022 and it's really really quick. Overwhelms the tires easily, but stupid fun. Sleeper.

@@scottk7011 If that’s the case, It’s disappointing. I think Kia should have managed the torque better with a more sophisticated traction control system to start with. There are many more powerful electric vehicles that take off harder with little or no wheelspin. Maybe that’s harder to do with front-wheel drive only, but with today’s computers it should be achievable. In any case, a few extra miles of range aren’t worth losing the fun factor of big torque for me.

@@michaelc2254 That's my feeling too. I've found that staying in ECO mode winds up working well at launch since it reduces the 'instant 280+ lb/ft' tire spinning torque from a stop. I'll post a couple links from someone who used same technique

This EV also have battery pack lower about 2 cm below normal ground level ? I think it is a big Niro, Kona problems for Latin America markets, where slow down bumps, called "Topes" are too high and risk of damage battery pack is nearly imminent.

Nobody has the 2023 U.S. pricing yet? But leaked prices from the uk show this would start around 39k here in the US. Which is way to close imo to the base ev6. So maybe it'll get adjusted down to around 35k? That with the tax credit would be very enticing for some. As for the federal tax credit, Kia has plenty of them left at the full $7,500.
