The dock isn't just storage for the dongle. The dock is a fancy usb extender, so you can plug the dock in to your device and use the 2.4ghz. This also allows for plugging the dongle itself in to your device and keep the charging dock by your couch.

@@dcayus I haven't had a ton of time to fight with it, but I have not been able to get it to work with my steam deck dock. That is why I bought this controller; I already have a Pro 2 which I love but I was hoping to improve the latency. I've picked two of the bluetooth versions and they are amazing, for those wondering if the 2.4 G dongle can handle more than one controller it can't, but of course if you picked two controllers you are going to have two of them so you'll have no problems at all. Also, he didn't mention this but the charging docks not only charge the controller, they work as a USB extender so if you have the dongle "stored" in the dock, you actually have the dongle connected to your device too so you don't have to worry about having all your USB ports populated.

I have the 8bitdo Pro 2 and while it doesnt have 2.4GHz mode, it does have the replaceable battery (plus option of using AAs) and the 4 input physical switch on the back; S/Switch, A/Apple, D-Input & X-input modes. Even if you didn't use all the modes, having a separate mode for Switch will both eliminate the possible "operating two bluetooth devices at once" issue, but also means the devices have separate custom profiles (in theory up to 16 profiles on Pro2 vs 8 profiles on Ultimate). The 'Ultimate' controller including a charging dock & 2.4GHz dongle is good (along with the improved analogue sticks), but D-input only & a fixed built-in battery seems a step down. Especially considering the bump in price to £60 vs Pro 2 which is around £40 (I paid just £32 at Amazon UK back in June, no discount codes, grey model was just cheaper at time). The cheaper 'Ultimate' model without bluetooth is £40 on Amazon UK vs £39-£42 for the various Pro 2 models. Granted less latency with 2.4GHz vs Pro2 bluetooth, but the Pro 2 can also be connected via USB I think personally, even if the 'Ultimate' carried over all features from the Pro 2 (inc 4 mode switch on back, included both X&D inputs), the lack of the replaceable battery would kill my enthusiasm. If the 'Ultimate 2' included everything the Pro 2 has, but also added 2.4GHz & the dock, that could be worth the £60, but losing features and gaining a dock isn't worth the extra imo. Symmetrical vs asymmetric analogue sticks doesn't really bother me, I can switch between the Pro2, Switch & PS4 controllers without much effort. I used to prefer the Xbox style sticks, but after 6yrs of PS4 as my primary console it's not really an issue. I had/have a PS3, but was definitely more experienced with Xbox analogue position, going back to orig Xbox & GC (technically before that if you count the Dreamcast with its single stick).

I've been using the same controller for 15 years!!! (Sixaxis, dualshock 3 predecessor) The analog sticks are still in perfect shape, my secret is adding a bit of brake lubricant to the sticks at least once a year, when i take it apart i also clean it up internally, I never had a problem with drifting, not registering imputs or so on. Like I said, I'm a huge fan of 8BITDO, but the GuliKit looks awesome too and for 8BITDO being using their sensors, it's because they know what they're doing. So... hard to decide... help me! :D

@WhyKlef
@WhyKlef Жыл бұрын
I'll tell you this much. I bought the Gulikit and while yes, it is a good controller. I run into many compatibility issues in titles, the sticks, while being hall sensor also have a very unusual sensitivity, not like those big brand ones. To be fair, so does 8bitdo out of the box but the difference is 8bitdo has such amazing software, you honestly can't go wrong after tweaking to your liking. Gulikit on the other end does offers customizability as well but from shortcuts on the controller itself but it's (at least to me) one of those overly complicated things to use because there is SO MANY SHORTCUTS. You essentially need the manual opened at all times to know what you are actually modifying. Also, the Gulikit does not have the back paddles, the 8bitdo does. And last, think of the 8bitdo as a premium controller built around what the big international brands do where as the Gulikit is more of a "chinese" type premium gamepad, buttons are more clicky than "membrane" mushy. Honestly, my Gulikit hasn't stopped me from preferring the 8bitdo Pro 2 even though I much prefer asymmetric sticks. I'm picking up the BT version, I just wish they had a solution with mass market ABXY layout but oh well.

A few things to keep in mind with these controllers that they don't really highlight on their website - The one sold as the bluetooth controller can't connect with bluetooth on Windows. It has bluetooth for Switch but on windows you have to use the 2.4g adapter. - the wired and 2.4g controllers have the Xbox button layout (A at the bottom and B on the right) while the Bluetooth one has the Switch layout (B on the bottom, A on the right) - Only the bluetooth one has gyro capabilities. The 2.4g one does not.

I wonder if they will ever make controllers for Playstation because I would love a good 3rd party Playstation controller that is actually official so you can at least confirm the quality

It's a shame you didn't try the 2.4ghz model with the dongle on the SteamDeck in docked mode because I think it's the most interesting one...

I was really looking forward to getting the Ultimate Bluetooth controller but only the 2.4g is available on Best Buy hoping that changes soon.

"Do" as in "Yes I do." The company has confirmed it on their official Twitter. Maybe they started with "do" like "Nintendo;" but just like their products, they've evolved beyond just pandering to nostalgia.

What about the ABXY layout being setup for switch on the Bluetooth version vs the Xbox layout on the 2.4 version?? Are the buttons swappable?? I want the Bluetooth version strictly for the Hall effect joysticks on PC

You can remap but you can't change the buttons on the controller.

Please describe the quality of the D-pad and other buttons. Not just “it feels good”. D-pad ware is a serious problem for all controllers I’ve used. Having to replace the D-pad after only 3 months of use is awful!

Ordered the xbox wired one. Really want those hall effect sticks though. Hopefully they offer an xbox one with those at some point. I also noticed some ali stores seem to be offering them with different button layouts ? A and b swaped i think

Are you sure the BT model doesn't support mode switching with button combos? I know the 2.4-only and some other models have physical switches for X/D-input, but others like the SN30 switch modes by powering them while holding Y+Start, X+Start, etc.

So did they fix the Android thing? As in more compatibility...? I just bought this controller, its in the way, and wanted to see if I could use it for my Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone for emulators and other games like Call of Duty and so on...

If I will get one I'll be going for black because my Xbox controller is also white and it looks so identical to it.

Been looking at this since I saw it pre order on amazon, probably will pick it up if it ever goes on sale I can't justify 70 bucks on a controller. Although if it's limited to dinput over bluetooth that's definitely a dealbreaker for me. Also I really wish they offered a bluetooth model with xbox button layout, I'd never buy a controller this premium for the switch.

You said they have the “same buttons” but they have swapped ABXY buttons. How does this function in game? Surprised this wasn’t mentioned.

Out of curiosity, did you happen to check if the ABXY buttons are interchangeable between the two models? I was hoping with the ultimate Bluetooth version, we would be able to rearrange the buttons from Switch to Xbox, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I contacted 8bitDo, to see if they planned to sell replacement buttons like they do for the SN30, and Pro line of controllers, but they informed me they have no plans to. If the 2.4g buttons work with the Bluetooth version, that may be the only (albeit expensive) way to get an Xbox button layout with the hall effect sticks for now (not counting Gulikit's controller)
