Can anyone tell me, does the 780g allow for “suspend before low” feature in full auto mode? Currently using the 670g which does not allow you to set your own “suspend before low target” while in auto mode. I hate this feature. My low target is 90. Below 90 I started feeling hypoglycemic and want the ability for the pump to actively shut off basal delivery if it predicts I’m going to go below 90. I often switch to manual mode overnight with the 670g so I can use the suspend before low feature.

I have a 670 and have been looking for accurate, up to date information on the 770 and 780. This video did more to give that to me than the previous half dozen I watched on other sites. Thank you for your well presented and concise information on the 780. Looks like I will need to upgrade from the 670.

I have been a type 1 diabetic for 46 years, I was 22 when diagnosed . I started out with NPH insulin. There were no glucose meters at the time so I don’t know how good my control was. My monthly labs for glucose were good. I was very strict at first, I think because I had just graduated nursing school and I knew the problems associated with type 1 diabetes. I became pregnant in 1979. There were still no glucose meters, at least affordable glucose meters. My pregnancy was uneventful. I became pregnant again in 1981. My endocrinologist insisted that I get the glucose meter that was available. I don’t remember the brand, but it was very expensive, and the glucose strips were even more expensive. I checked my blood sugar several times a day and I stayed pretty much in range. This pregnancy was also uneventful. Go forward many years. I started getting lax with my diet, eating sweets. Not all the time, mainly, during specials dinners. As time went my blood sugars seem to be in fairly good control I had no complications due to my diabetes after 20 years. In 1997 I got my first Insulin pump. I was thrilled to death. I felt that it had changed my life. I still have problems with very severe low blood sugars. I have hypoglycemic unawareness. My blood sugars were as low as 11, 9, 17. I feel fine at those times, just hungry. I asked my doctor how this could be and he told me it’s because I have had so many low blood sugars that my body was able to adapt to low blood sugars. I am now using the 770G insulin pump that is supposed to be a miracle. Maybe it’s the training, I don’t know but I have high blood sugars like I’ve never had before. 300s , 400’s sometimes even higher. And I still have low blood sugars. I’m still waiting for the 780 G pump to be approved in the United States. Again, I’m hoping that it will be a miracle pump. like all the other past pumps that I’ve had that have claimed to be.

Thanks for the nice summary. I just started on the 780G (I live in Switzerland) and have not yet trusted myself to rely on the Smartguard feature. My main reason for switching was to move to the Guardian 4 as I found the Guardian 3 to be very unreliable (used it with the 640G). As I my average blood glucose has been consistently around 91 (low carb/ketogenic diet), I do not like that limitation. It is obviously designed for the high-carb ADA diet more likely to be followed by the majority of patients. I also do not like that Medtronic places the top of the range at 180. They are clearly more concerned about the risks of hypoglycemia and not hyperglycemia. In manual mode with Guardian 4, however, it is a far superior system to what I was previously using.

I was looking for a video to help me decide if I want to go through all the hassle of upgrading the 770G soft wear to 780G. I wanted to see if there were enough benefits to upgrading. After watching this video, which was so informative, I can see that I need this upgrade. I just started the training coarse and I'm at the 72 hour waiting period. I enjoy your channel and your presentations. Very informative. My Medtronic journey: 20 years with a Medtronic pump. Problems with old Enlite transmitter. Telephone tech support showed no problems. It had a hairline crack I finally found. Months of bad readings and phone calls. Have 630G (and Dexcom G6). Two more months of warranty. O-ring alert. Recall. Clip broke-replaced pump altogether. Today, urgent UPS Ground notice for Medical device correction. Instructions to turn off remote bonus option. I looked online and the warning I received today was originally issued in February 2022. It took a year to get notification to me? Also found Medtronic stopped selling 670G in 2021. I’ve looked online & YT to find pumpers who went from Tandem to Medtronic. I can only find Medtronic defectors so went to MDI, Omnipod or Tandem. I have a decision to make soon when the warranty is up. Still perseverating over staying or going!

I'm using the 770g (United States) and I run in manual mode due to that 120 target which I don't like. I also find that I need to do a dual bolus for most meals and you can't do that in Auto mode. I know I could split the bolus manually but I'd rather not. I will consider trying auto mode when the 780 is approved, assuming I stick with Medtronic. My warranty is up later this year.

I definitely think you’ll have much better luck with the 780. The ability to set a lower target and the correction bolus feature make it a significantly better pump in my opinion. Best of luck to you and thanks for the comment!

670g, and all medtronic pumps need a 1 PRESS STFU BUTTON. After nearly 5 years of this thing losing signal, kicking me from auto mode, being out of calibration and endless nonsense alarms I almost ripped it off my chest and pitched it off a bridge. When they offered the upgrade my endo said no, ride out the warranty and never look back. It's actually a great system but it has some fatal flaws and with most insurance policies you are locked in for 5 years until the warranty expires

I've had mine for a month now and it really doesn't let you do anything in smart gaurd. You can change a temp setting, I haven't really used it so I don't know how well it does. Mine has been malfunctioning and I had a bloodsugar of over 350 for over 6 hours and couldn't get anyone on tech support to help me. I told my insulin pump I ate carbs to make it give me insulin and they had the audacity to tell me not to do that because it would interfere with how the insulin pump works. Doesn't seem like it works well if my bloodsugar isn't coming down in 6 hours with no food being eaten, but what do I know. They told me to call back later if it happened again....that's their tech support
@Zeepjeliefs Жыл бұрын
@@ThatKrazyGirl hey thanks for responding :) Ahh I'm sorry to hear about that experience! Maybe there are some options in this situation.. Did you try to change the infusion set? Sorry English is not my first language. Could you maybe fill in your bloodsugar at the bolus calculator, with 0 carbs, just the high number, to let it give you extra insulin? That is an option my 670g, that way I did not have to give it fake carbs. Not sure if that is possible with 780g? And when you spike for so long and can't get it to go down, could you maybe go out of the automodus and give yourself insulin on the manual modus? If I were you I'd probably already given myself a shot of insulin by hand. I still carry a injection pen arround, just in case. Hope you get to have better experiences, what a struggle these things are 😣 I have chosen ypsompump closed loop because my nurse thinks the algorithm of 780g is too slow for my body. I will probably start next month, I am on the waiting list.

Did you figure it out? My mom is on Dexcom with 670g, wondering if the 780g would be a good upgrade when available. Our goal is to change the user/device interaction as little as possible (harder to learn new things now), but maybe have less ups and downs after meals.
@monicaheltemes5327 Жыл бұрын
And is it true you need to calibrate twice a day with 780g? She never does that now, unless maybe if at a diabetic educator appointment.
@BadCatCafe Жыл бұрын
@@saraheart2804 If you want to have the pump and Dexcom CGM in a closed loop system (Medtronic Guardian mode), then you could not use a Medtronic pump. Medtronic pumps will only communicate with Medtronic CGMs to form a closed loop system. I just read on the Medtronic site that the new Guardian Sensor 4 (for use with 780G) is only approved for upper arm insertion, whereas the Guardian Sensor 3 (for 670G & 770G) is approved for abdomen, upper arm - and I believe high hip and upper thigh, but you'd need to confirm that for sure . Guardian Sensor 4 is much more limited in placement, which can be a problem for some people.

I run loop with an old Medtronic Paradigm, most recent HbA1c at 5.4% - so a good rig, but reliant on a very old pump and having to pocket a rileylink, so I'm intrigued about a return to a proprietary pharma system, especially since it is all provided free in the UK. Anyone else transitioned from community coded loop to a big pharma solution and managed withe the control limitations that it prescribes?

I’m new to this product my doctor is trying to get me to use it I wanted to know does the 770g also a cgm?
@diabetesdailydigest2 жыл бұрын
Yep, to be able to use the automated insulin delivery system on the 770g you’ll have to use the Medtronic guardian 3 CGM. You can also use a Dexcom or Freestyle Libre with it but then you would lose the automated insulin delivery feature.
@monicaheltemes5327 Жыл бұрын
So if you use a Dexcom with the 780g it won’t act any different than the 670g. My 80 yo mom uses 670g and Dexcom now. Very used to both systems and set up, don’t want to change that, but lower risk of highs or lows after a meal could be helpful. So hard to calculate carbs just right.

Great video but I'm slightly confused. You mentioned that the 770g could essentially receive firmware upgrade to mimic the features of the 780g. Would it get the updated sensor? Would it be the exact same experience? I just ordered the 770g, in the USA, but don't want it if it isn't capable of all that the 780g is. I'm confident that it will be FDA approved very soon stateside. Please advise.
@diabetesdailydigest2 жыл бұрын
So the 770g hardware is identical to the 780g, the only difference is the software its running. Once we get FDA approval here in the US, Medtronic will allow you to upgrade the firmware on the pump and your 770g will in a matter of minutes become a 780g. The only hardware upgrade you will need is swapping out your guardian 3 for the new guardian 4. Let me know if that makes sense.
@topofthebarrelinc2 жыл бұрын
@@diabetesdailydigest 100% Thank you for the clarification. I'll keep my order and hope that Medtronic will upgrade the sensor right away when the 680 is approved.
