Thanks for the review. I appreciate that your views are really insightful and you are not influenced by PD now, nor potential r/s with PD. Because so many bag reviews out there do not mention the cons of this bag and whilst they disclaim that PD did not influence their video, its obvious that they wanna say only the good things so they can receive more stuffs from PD in future. That ridiculous top grab handle is almost to the point of amusing. Its video like yours that really helps us consumers make a choice. Thank you. FWIW, i have decided that this bag is not aligned to my use cases. I was initially caught up in the hype too, esp that purple/red color. Glad i exercised self restraint.

I noticed that the camera cube had removable padding in the lid. So I guess if you are using it with the lid folded away, you could take that padding from the lid and put it in the laptop compartment instead for extra protection. Just a thought, don't know if that was what the designers intended...

I’m so relieved I canceled my preorder from kickstarter. Love PD and I almost got caught up in the hype. Not a fan of the separation between the camera cube and the top compartment

This video feels like you need the travel line instead of the outdoor. By the way, you can use the packing cube flap to protect your laptop
@jay5soul2 ай бұрын
or maybe just the everyday bag. its called an outdoor bag for a reason....just sayin
@DesmondChengАй бұрын
yeah ill have to try the travel line next time! You are right you can use the flap to protect the laptop, but then it will become annoying have to unzip that flap all the time!

Don’t you need to look down for a snap buckle sternum strap as well?
@DesmondChengАй бұрын
not really, you can just feel it to line it up. Yes looking down will help, but its not required!

I don’t own this pack but I think you totally missed the point of this bsckpack. It’s not for city or travel use. It is a multifunctional outdoor backpack which has few nice features if you want to carry your camera gear. Check out all the modern ultralight backpacks on the market and you will see where you want to categorize this pack but sadly it’s not that ultralight
@DesmondChengАй бұрын
most of my dislikes are fairly general that doesnt matter if its an outdoor backpack or an everyday backpack, it should have these standard features: - Standing up on its own - Better grab handle - Larger quick access external pocket But you are right that these 2 features (padded laptop, luggage pass through strap) i mentioned aren't meant for an outdoor backpack. But still if you watch the video again, most of my dislikes are fairly general. The Shimoda is an outdoor backpack and the Explore V2 solves allt he issues above!

@@DesmondCheng No ultralight frameless backpack is designed to stand on its own. Most of the time, we just lay the backpack down on its front side and access it from the back, as intended by the design. That’s why rugged materials are used on the front to handle this kind of use. For my purposes (100% outdoor use), I find this feature pointless. Regarding the grab handle: I've never used a grab handle in an outdoor scenario. All my outdoor backpacks have similar grab handles, minimal and without padding. You can grab them when the bag is empty, but when it’s full, you naturally want to lift it by the harness. It has a massive, quick-access external stash pocket, like most ultralight backpacks, but without a mesh panel, you can stuff a lot in there, and it keeps the bag minimalistic and modular. I watched your whole video and understand your point of view, but I feel this backpack isn’t designed like the ones you mentioned. Also, check the weight of those Shimoda backpacks, they're loaded with unnecessary features, they look like military backpacks with fancy fabrics. While they’re designed for outdoor use, they’re heavily focused on carrying heavy camera gear. In contrast, the PD approach is more minimalistic and lightweight, stripped of unnecessary features and rugged where it’s needed. I think they nailed it. The only thing I’m unsure about is the closure system on the top. Maybe a classic rolltop closure would be better. Time will tell how durable this new closure system is. Anyway nice video and thanks for the review, keep it up

I to bought this pack on kickstarter. I actually bought both sizes based on my past experience with PD I figured these would be a grand slam. I’m very disappointed with the purchases. These bags clearly were not designed as camera bags even though they were strongly marketed as such.

I would love for you to brainstorm your own bag into existence! :D. I feel like PD has become less and less thoughtfully innovative. I've always liked their company and ethos, just not their bags. Still waiting for the perfect bag and have tried them all. If Shimodo came out with a Molle variant with true top loading functionality (and dedicated bottle pouches) that might be it. PGYTech's latest ruined it with the non-removable belt and LowePro's Protactic v3... truly missed opportunity... they even made the Molle non-standardized sizing. Love your videos. If you can think of a great EDC/Molle bag, maybe a BYOB, top loading, for Sony A7RV, 3 Lenses (50-400)... I'd love to hear your thoughts. Summit Creative came close also (for a Shimod clone). Tenba Axis v2 also did not work for me... not enough space/pockets for normal EDC stuff (iPad, Laptop, Pens, Leatherman, etc.). I rarely comment, but watch every video!

Thanks for the review. Makes me immediately discard this bag. One of the worst bags I have seen in a long time in that segment. I expected better from Peak Design. That top handle is a total joke, and the laptop compartment is even worse. Wou;ld have been better if it didn't have one at all ...
