The Allman Brothers were the best. Without them, an entire genre of music may have never been.
@KindCountsDeb37734 жыл бұрын
they sound like what we today call "progressive", and they were. New mix of different genre's and the members were ALL superb, just a perfect storm of talent. They always gave credit to who they learned from , were influenced by, etc. They grew up listening to old school Blues, R & B, Jazz, rock, country, etc. They sought it out - on record, inconcert, in person, etc. They are YOUNG here (I think Gregg was 20/21), and so talented cause they all started early with the music they loved.

Funny that you say that, I'm pretty certain that they lose a beat and a half or so coming back in from the drum break/gtr solo on this recording (sounds like Berry jumps the gun?), but they're so fast to recover and play through that you'd barely even notice without counting the whole time. That's really what shows me a band is tight as hell, when they miss a beat but no one notices because they cover it so well.

Allman Brother's were the first band to feature two drummers, Jamoe and Butch Trucks. Dwayne Allman was a legend on the guitar. Gregg Allman is the most beautiful man I have ever laid eyes on, and that voice..........

So, the lead guitarist,"Duane Allman" collaborated with Eric Clapton to create the greatest Love song ever written. "Layla" is a song that will make you listen. Clapton will give you permanent "Stank" face...

WHAT A BAND WHAT A PERFORMANCE ! I was lucky to have grown up, in the most incredible era of music.

I was there, 2nd Avenue and Sixth Street. A Holy Temple of Rock and Roll. Every great Band of the era performed there. Give me a one-way ticket back, I'll die with a smile om my face.

This is THE version of THE song that made me want to play lead guitar. I dabbled with trying to play before that, but mostly simple radio rock stuff. This song opened up the possibilities for me. Dickey's first solo on this still gives me goosebumps. His playing is stellar, and the tone is hot enough to fry an egg on those pickups! They remain my favorite band. Try out Black Hearted Woman, album version.

And you got Dicky Betts and Duane on slide. And remember those boys had blues roots. Classic southern rock. It still moves me to listen to that music and I’m 67!!

Great to hear the band lives on, there truly was a breakthrough in rock music whenever they took the stage. Two drummers, two lead guitarists and great vocals. They were the favorites of Tom Dowd, distinguished recording engineer and Bill Graham, owner of Fillmore East, the legendary rock auditorium. They were musicians’ musicians whose live performances were as good or better than their studio work.

my lawd ... I lived through this period of music ... I [ and all of the " I's " that were young along with me that make up the " we " ] were blown away by what we heard, but hearing these amazing songs and bands/singers through these " Reaction Videos " channels is rebirthing the Reaction I had back then. We were spoiled rotten with the abundance of gifted musicians who graced the airwaves with their mind-blowing talent. Witnessing the exuberant reaction of the " kids " who are on these channels is a pleasure. But I was instrumental personally in the introduction of " our " music to a teenager back in the early 90's. My girlfriend's younger brother heard THE music while riding along with me in my car, or while visiting me at home. He immediately loved it and told his friends about it. They started buying classic rock CDs. Well one day I walked into my house from work. As I was approaching my bedroom in the hallway, this teen [ a friend of the brother who I had not yet met ] came running up to me. He grabbed my hand, shaking it rapidly while thanking me for turning Mark [ my girlfriend's brother ] on to " that great music ", and in turn bringing it to him. You'd have thought the guy had just won the lottery. This shows the power of music, not that any of us need to be told that.

They say Lynyrd Skynyrd is the best self proclaimed Southern Rock band. Nope it’s the Brothers. Their drummers are the glue that keeps them on time. They never skip a note and they never missed a lyric. And Dickie Bettts makes love to that guitar. Greg ( keyboard vocals ) l never saw him smile. And Dwayne, can’t say enough. I use to see them ALL THE TIME. For less than ten bucks. I don’t know if you know this Greg was married to Cher go figure.

It's good to remember that the one guitarist Eric Clapton wanted to play in a supergroup with after his last supergroup, Cream, was finished was Duane Allman. For people who really know guitar, he is high up there in the all time best guitarists lists. So they formed Derek and the Dominoes, there was no Derek in the band, it was a combination of their first names; Duane and Eric. Even though Eric Clapton plays the solo riffs in Layla after Duane died, Eric has said that Duane played them on the studio album.

Nonsense. They debuted as Derek and the Dominoes weeks before they met Duane. And Clapton wanted anything but a supergroup after Blind Faith.
