Whoa. I was born 10 yrs and 1 day after this was recorded. Hard to believe Duane had only been gone for 9 years at that point. My daughter was killed 9 years ago, in 2014. It really puts things into perspective. As a kid, 1971 felt so long ago. But now, 9 yrs feels like yesterday. So I sort of understand how my Dad felt. It was still very fresh. Even st 9 yrs later. This date, I heard this version for the first time. All I ever heard was the Fillmore live version since it came out on radio stations locally. I am amazed at the clarity of the recording since those times, live sound recording was a bit "crude" compared to today's technology. Almost came close to today's standards. I say that because I can hear every nuance that Duane and Dickey does with their guitars, although the drum parts are quite inaudible. The version is an equal to the Fillmore version. Dynamic and intense.

@19tractor525 жыл бұрын
The guitar in the pic was a few years earlier, it is a black LP CUSTOM, you can tell by the fret markers, I have seen this pic before, but never any explanation why he was using a CUSTOM--never heard nor saw it again. At Stoneybrook--just a month and 10 days before he died, he was mostly likely playing the Tobacco Burst==it had the hottest pickups of his 3 LPs--he used his Goldtop on Layla, and within about a month had taken the pickups out of Goldie and installed them into the Cherryburst fall of 1970---he used the Cherryburst till I think I read about June of 1971 when he acquired the Tobacco Burst, which had the hot pups. For me, Duane's the one.
