It amazes me how big the mark hoppus bass fandom is! I have a MK1 in white, its a shame its discontinued! Id love a squier version of it. Also technically guitars have been always painted with automotive paint cars were painted with nitrocellulose back in the day now they are painted with polyester or polyurethane paint which is far more resistant than nitro most guitars are painted with poly only custom shop or really high end stuff gets nitro cuz people believe it helps with resonance since its a thinner finish. Great video btw!!!

The Mk1 was my first bass guitar and instrument I got in 2003. I still have it and it’s the surf green color. The Mk2 tone isn’t bad with the reverse pickup positions, but some tone tweaking on outboard effects can get close to that with the mk1 if it’s so desired. I’m not a fan of his later basses really. I prefer the jazz bass body and the tone of the Jag I’m not too fond of

This was really well done! I dig my HMNIM Jag Bass. The Pau Ferro fretboard isn’t as bad as people make it out to be and I think they chose a good alternative to the SD Quarter Pounders. Got about 1/2 right on the blind test and had to listen a few times. It was the Matty B and the MkII that got me.

To me hands down Mk1. I had it right in the blind test. The others are way to bright. However I noticed you play very close to the bridge while standing up, in particular with the Mk1. Maybe it’s a balance thing. In the Always comparison, the Mk1 sounds very tense in contrast to the others. There is a lot to say about how technique affects tone, but you have to adjust where you strum. Playing that high doesn’t do any favors to a bass that’s “supposed to sound” loose and warm, (because you are playing Blinks songs). Where you playing sitting down on the blind test? I have a Mk1 and 2, and every time the 1 blows the 2 out of the water. Great vid!

It’s a good point, and I guess something I didn’t think about at the time. I was sat down on the blind tone test. I’m going to do an updated version of this soon. So I’ll deffo try and play a bit higher with my right hand! Thanks 👊🏻🤘🏻

The HMNIM is great! Glad you managed to snag one! Did you see that they’re releasing it in blue to? Quite hard, yeah! I had a mk1 MH bass way back in 2008 that I eventually sold and as the years rolled by I really regretted letting it go. So I ended up selling most of my old touring gear to fund getting my blink collection! Traded 3 hours each way to get the mk1! And the mk2 came from Poland! Haha

@davidjohnsully2 жыл бұрын
@@nicofreako182 ah dude, that’s rad! The blue does look sweet!! I think Fender would be silly not to! But I think his first 4 are prototypes like he had with the strats and they do a second batch that’s perfected. Then we’ll get the general release. I hope they do both Squire and Fender to!
@nicofreako1822 жыл бұрын
@@davidjohnsully me too!!! And that’s good to know, and what is the main difference between the squire and fender because I have the Tom squire strat but always thought it was just a knock of the fender one and always wanted the fender one, are they pretty much the same?
@davidjohnsully2 жыл бұрын
@@nicofreako182Haha the fender has a Seymour Duncan invader, whereas the Squires have a Duncan design invader. Which is like Seymour Duncan's answer to a more budget-friendly invader (like Squire is for fender). The tuning pegs are also different. The neck. The fenders were built in the Mexico Fender workshop. Where as the Squires we're built in the China factory. The colours available were also different between Fender and Squire. Which is kinda neat!
