Gumball's writing has always felt like it was aimed more towards older audiences, not exclusively kids. A lot of people didn't even realise that the episode "The Candidate" was an allegory for the 2016 US election. Then there's the dozens of jokes and allusions to modern internet culture and real world controversies. So it wouldn't surprise me if this ended up being real someday and was on Adult Swim.

yeah i think a sequel would work great as a show aimed at an older audience, especially considering the audience of the original show is older now. an older audience would remember the original, but would be able to enjoy humor and storylines that are perhaps more mature than a kid's show on CN would allow (it wouldn't even have to be made "edgy" or anything, it'd keep the goofy cartoony stuff but just maybe not hold back on more mature themes)

I don't think gumball can work as a show on adult swim bc the shows writing and humor that heavily towed the line between being for mature audiences and being for kids. if it was remade for adult swim then it wouldn't have to do any of that and the show could very easily turn into just a more wacky and surreal version of south park. Really the best way to handle a gumball sequel for adult swim would be to either keep that balance somehow or to give changes that makes it different enough from south park while also keeping most of its core elements
