I stand by my theory that this is the original timeline. At some point following the events of Zelda 2, someone used the newly restored Triforce to alter the outcome of the battle between Ganon and the Hero of Time. This erased the Downfall Timeline and created the Adult and Child Timelines.

I do have a similar belief, even more so considering that the the downfall timeline is not on the same split as the child and adult and it come earlier. It implies that the downfall was the first one, but then something happened that lead to another timeline where OoT happened

The original timeline causes the other two to exist imo. Link was initially defeated because he was a child, he couldn’t wield the MS properly, but as per OOT’s events, he could still release it from the pedestal, granting Ganondorf access to the Sacred Realm. After this, a showdown is had in the Chamber of Sages, given Ganondorfcan only wield the ToP(due to the split), but the other two pieces start resonating with Child Link and Child Zelda… Link challenges Ganondorf, but due to Link’s inability to ‘wield the Master Sword’(no Hero ‘emerged’ according to ALTTP’s backstory), he gets stomped to within an inch of his life. Once the hero was defeated, the sages still sealed Ganon, Zelda still sent Child Link back to the past, to before his quest began. The Master Sword, having sentience, retained this information, sealing Link’s spirit for 7 years(the time it took for him to be able to properly wield the blade). Only Rauru as the Guardian of the Temple of Light, informs this to Link, appears to know this (along with Adult Zelda who could’ve got the information from him during Link’s slumber). Link then awoke to a nightmare of one of the last moments he remembered, Ganondorf on horseback riding passed him into the Sacred Realm. It’s also the reason Zelda told Link his name sounded familiar and why Shiek stated that to Adult Link that by standing with the Master Sword “You really look like the Hero of Time..” - both slightly cryptic things.

I like the idea that the wish made upon the Complete Triforce by the Hero of Legend, in order to undo all the damage caused by Ganon, is actually what accidently caused the timeline split. By that wish retroactively being what allowed the Hero of Time win his fight so long ago. But the way the power of that wish manifested, you may ask? By you, the player, helping the Hero of Time defeat Ganon seven years later. Much like how the Hero of Time had to be kept in stasis in order to grow into the man destiny required, we all had to wait seven years in order to grow as players as well.

@@_Schemer7108 75% is not close to 100%. Also, HoT has 50% anyway, just naturally, not from a tunic, which also means he can wear the red to become immune to fire. Chateau Romani gives him unlimited magic either for 3 days, or his entire lifetime, either way, it easily clears every other Link. Because a battle between these 2 would obviously not last 72 hours. That means the Hero of Time in this fight would have unlimited use of Dins Fire, which is an unmatched offensive and defensive maneuver, teleportation, and an impenetrable damage shield. That alone does it, but even if it didn’t, he’s also faster than HoL with the bunny hood which is faster than the Pegasus boots, and is a always granted passive, instead of a charge, or the Goron Mask in which he can travel at top speed constantly and with deadly spikes. The HoL is a powerful foe to be sure, but no other Link can stand up to another Link that has powerful spells and unlimited magic. HoT would be at worst second or third most powerful anyway, even without the most broken single item in LoZ, but with it, he is an unkillable, or even undamageable beast.

Many of the Links didn’t hold it for all or most of their adventure; and we still have NO Idea what it even truly does-or really any of the other pieces. Even if Link DOES have magical spells verses magical items needing magical stamina, they have no association with the Triforce of Courage…so it’s probable that Power and Wisdom don’t, either. (In Zelda’s case she’s a telepath and psychic even if she doesn’t hold Wisdom or Full.)

Wasn't Oracle of Ages and Seasons changed in terms of placement of the timeline in order to make the Link in those games a separate incarnation because of continuity errors? While it wasn't stated outright in the english version due to error, it was mentioned in the Japanese Zelda encyclopedia timeline.

I think its up to interpretation. We could take the reincarnation of the Spirit of the hero not to mean soul, but the will and desire to be a hero, since spirit could mean both (As in the phrase "fighting spirit") So the old man in Worlds could be the same link from Past, just his adventuring and heroic drive faded away in his old age, thus letting it to reincarnate in a younger, more adventurous boy.

These are: - Majora's Mask (same hero as OoT), - Phantom Hourglass (same hero as WW), - Tri Force Heroes (same hero as ALBT). - And both LA and the Oracle games are shown in that same type of box too, following up from AlttP. So it is supposedly the same Link ^^

@@JustinKeys Hyrule Encyclopedia isn't a reliable source since even the book admits that the writers filled the book with their own interpretation with the lore such as the "Hero's Shade being a Stalfos" instead of a Spirit, "Dragon Roost Island being OoT's Zora's Domain" instead of Death Mountain, and "Termina being a dream world" unlike Hyrule Historia which is more consistent, the authors didn't make a mistake like these in Hyrule Historia. The Timeline in Zelda Encyclopedia (yes even in the Japanese version) contradicts itself as it actually lists the Oracle games and LA as happening within the same year as ALTTP as the boxes they are in share the same lighter color just like the other direct sequel games such as: *Majora's Mask (stars the same Link from Ocarina of Time) *Phantom Hourglass (stars the same Link from Wind Waker) Meaning ALTTP/Oracles/LA do indeed all star the same Link just as Hyrule Historia previously stated, and Historia got the order of the games correct (ALTTP>Oracle Games>LA) because at the end of the Oracle games Link sets off on his sailboat to train which is meant to be a set up for the opening of LA as originally intended. As for Zelda not knowing Link, this is due to dialogue inconsistencies during the linked versions of events as this also happens with characters like Din, Vire, Dimitri, Vasu, and Cap'n: they all introduce themselves to Link despite Link already meeting them in the other Oracle game, Impa and by extension Zelda even admit to forgetting who Link is despite his prior efforts in the previous Oracle game, dialogue that isn't relevant to timeline placement nor whether or not the Links are the same. What is relevant is Oracles Link having a Triforce mark (not officially stated be a birthmark in the Japanese version) and being able to easily enter Hyrule Castle without being stopped by the guards and later being referred to as a prestablished Hero by the Triforce, this is due to his prior efforts in defeating Ganon in A Link to the Past and that event plus Link leaving on his sailboat makes more sense if all the games star the same Link.

@@chuckarin1365 If it means that much to you, by all means think whatever makes the series more enjoyable to you, we're talking about fiction after all (fyi, none of that is supposed to sound condescending, tone is hard to translate to text). For favoring Historia over Encyclopedia, neither source is reliable or cannon. They were both created by people outside of Nintendo, though fans they were. Historia's timeline is even prefaced with that it's just what is accepted/thought to be true at the time, it seems very likely it'd be influenced by current fan theories. Also, for the colored boxes you're talking about, you'll need to give me a page number because on page 19 of the Encyclopedia, there's no such distinct coloring, there is some in specific sections showing what elements appear in what games but I don't see anything else. For saying Historia got the correct game order, that's contingent on these Links being the same, so you can't use that in your argument and some of your other explanations are just conjecture, like Link leaving by sailboat makes more sense for your argument but not more sense in general. Link is seen leaving (or venturing to) Hyrule a few times and it doesn't line up with the reason that was given for why he sails away from Hyrule. The dialogue is an interesting case. Without being able to reference the original Japanese release it's hard to say what is and isn't a mistake. I do recall a video touching on Zelda's dialogue which mentioned the original was in line with an introduction. Stuff like "I am (so and so)" could be a translation thing and stating your name isn't quite the same has introducing yourself but I can't find the original Japanese text to back that up. www.zeldalegends.net/index.php?n=oracle has some text dumps but not the Japanese version.

@@JustinKeys That generalizing of the books implies they are equal, they aren't equal in terms of how they present the lore and content, Encyclopedia creates actual new blantent inconsistencies and wild out of nowhere fan theories that steer completely far off the info in the games and manuals, and more than the three I already mentioned prior like: "Kokiris being Hylian in origin instead of being created by the Deku Tree..." "Granny being the Carpenter's wife instead of his mother/old lady..." "Holodrum and Labrynna being in alternate parallel dimensions instead of being neighboring countries close to Hyrule..." "Ganon appearing in Four Swords (GBA) instead of Four Swords Adventures..." "Termina being created by Majora's Mask using Skull Kid's mind and then the location disappearing after Link leaves despite the celebration still occuring in the end credits..." "The Piece of Power from Link's Awakening being a main quest item instead of being a temporary/consumable item..." "Hytopia being north of Hyrule despite no proof..." "The Noble Sword gains the powers of the Master Sword despite being completely separate and the complete lack of connection with the blades..." Whereas the grand majority of Historia's content while not perfect is just presenting/inferring info that was already in the games to begin with like the old manuals did originally, Historia's disclaimer is not remotely the same as Encyclopedia's disclaimer that they took creative liberties and made up lore based off their own interpretations. Saying "what is thought/accepted to be true at the time" isn't the same as saying "we players/fans have incorporated our own ideas and interpretations into the Zelda lore", the former statement is used to account for new Zelda games that come out in the future which would inevitably update the timeline with new prequel/sequel entries like A Link Between Worlds and Tri-Force Heroes. It's speculation to say that Nintendo or at least Miyamoto/Aonuma/Bill Trinen had no involvement with the creation/content of Historia, while very difficult to accurately guage how much lore input was fan made and which is official but I will have to disagree with the notion that Nintendo had no involvement based on licensing, especially when Miyamoto and Aonuma's signatures are in the book (Aonuma's signature is also in Encyclopedia). Historia's difference is that when it released in 2011 it had the first publically available official timeline, the timeline was still kept a secret prior to it's release, I'm more inclined to believe Miyamoto and Aonuma's involvement with the book beyond their signatures since they themselves referenced knowing about a secret master document that showed how all the games are connected as far back as 2003 around the release of The Wind Waker (Bill Trinen also mentioned the timeline document in 2005) with Historia's timeline more than likely being the one from that very same document that only those select few Nintendo employees knew about. Now while Historia's disclaimer on Page 68 states that the history of Hyrule can change and is "a continuously woven tapestry" (I already said this is to account for future prequel/sequel games like A Link Between Worlds and Tri-Force Heroes) the text before that also mentions *"The legends of Zelda have been surrounded by myth and mystery, but now, with the help of the following information, you will be able to discover for yourself the real history of Hyrule".* I personally like to think it was referencing the real-life secret document that previously had the timeline before Historia came out. Encyclopedia's timeline released 5 years after Historia's timeline and even acknowledges the difference between them while interestingly does not say that Historia's is necessarily wrong/outdated, but as I've said Encyclopedia's disclaimer is also far different in context and more specifically admits to fan-created liberties and that the timeline can be interpreted in a number of ways, and may change depending on new discoveries and *"player's imaginations"* That statement in Historia about the *"real history of Hyrule"* sounds more official/definitive from Nintendo. In Encylopedia when I mentioned the different colored boxes, I'm referring to the page titled "Traditions & History", Page 6 in the Japanese version and Page 10 in the English version. By it makes more sense for it to be the same Link I mean in a continuity sense with the Oracle Games in particular appear to reference and even connect to both A Link to the Past (the GBA remake especially) and Link's Awakening in many instances. Link leaving Hyrule on his sailboat (Hyrule Castle is shown in the background) at the end of the Oracles is the most obvious, but there are other continuity nods such as Link putting his name on his Swords just like he did for his Swords and Shield in Link's Awakening and the Oracle games happening before Link's Awakening would explain why (to Link at least) Marin looks almost exactly like Zelda (her voice even sounds just like Zelda according to the Japanese Link's Awakening manual) because Zelda in the Oracles games looks almost identical to Marin just with an edited sprite, further evidence for the connection would be Zelda's kiss to Link in the Oracles games ending and the romantic implications between Link and Marin during Link's Awakening being based on Link's memories/relationship with Zelda in those prior games: The Oracle games and A Link to the Past and said romantic relationship being implied in the paintings in A Link Between Worlds by the Rumor Guy. The A Link to the Past GBA remake even alludes to/ties into the Oracle games by having Maple appear as a cameo in the Potion Shop, meaning Link already met Maple before the events of the Oracle games. The Oracles games having a more direct connection to A Link to the Past would also explain why there are no Gorons on Death Mountain with the reason being they went to Holodrum, and it would also explain the lack of Friendly Zoras since Zora's Waterfall and Lake Hylia only show the Enemy Zora, this would be because they mentioned that they went to Labrynna in search of a new home. The Japanese Link's Awakening manual doesn't mention him having just "fulfilled the Hyrulean Prophecy of the Legendary Hero" like the localized English manual does nor does it mention him going on a "quest for enlightenment in search of wisdom that would make him better withstand the the next threat to his homeland", there is also no mention of a "precarious peace" either. Only that after peace was restored to Hyrule Link didn't enjoy it for too long and instead went off to adventure and train for future calamities and that after completing his training in foreign countries he was sailing back to Hyrule. The Oracles ending seems to match up with Link's departure from Hyrule on sailboat (as I've said, Hyrule Castle is shown in the ending) very reminiscent to the Japanese version of the Link's Awakening manual, with the training itself taking place in completely new/different foreign lands and being entirely offscreen, then after finishing his offscreen adventures that's where the opening to Link's Awakening occurs where Link gets caught in a storm on his way back to Hyrule.

There is something I don't get about the time line where the Hero of Time was defeated. According to this video, after killing link, Ganondorf took the whole triforce for himself, but how was he able to do that if Zelda was still alive? Not only that, according to a lot of videos I've seen, in order to hold the complete triforce you have to be in balance with yourself. So, how was Ganondorf, a being of hatred, capable of such a feat? Also, after he got the full triforce, he was still imprisoned by Zelda and the Sages, how? Does that mean that Zelda and the Sages hold more power than the triforce? This timeline has always seen a little bit of a stretch to me. I mean this is just a hypothetical timeline, because in Ocarina of Time, we see the split of two timelines, the one where link returns and warns the royal family about Ganondorf, and the other one where link defeated Ganondorf and was sent back in time, but nothing suggests that at some point Link died at the hands of Ganondorf. I know that timeline was created to be able to make more games, but the plot hole is too big

Oracles Link is currently not the same as ALttP/LA Link. This was the case in the Historia, but Encyclopedia retconned it. The English version said that they're still the same, but the JP version of Encyclopedia makes it clear that Oracles Link is a new Link, which makes sense considering that Link and Zelda don't know each other in the Oracle games and the fact that he has a Triforce shaped birthmark.

The Timeline in Zelda Encyclopedia (yes even in the Japanese version) contradicts itself as it actually lists the Oracle games and LA as happening within the same year as ALTTP as the boxes they are in share the same lighter color just like the other sequel games such as: *Majora's Mask (stars the same Link from Ocarina of Time) *Phantom Hourglass (stars the same Link from Wind Waker) Meaning ALTTP/Oracles/LA do indeed all star the same Link just as Hyrule Historia previously stated, though I also think Historia got the order of the games correct (ALTTP>Oracle Games>LA) because at the end of the Oracle games Link sets off on his sailboat to train which is meant to be set up for the opening of LA. As for Zelda not knowing Link, this is due to dialogue inconsistencies during the linked versions of events as this also happens with characters like Din, Vire, Dimitri, Vasu, and Cap'n: they all introduce themselves to Link despite Link already meeting them in the other Oracle game.
