Nordkirchen Palace is a palace and park ensemble in the Baroque style in Nordkirchen (Westphalia), built on the site of a Renaissance “castle on the water” from 1703 to 1734 by the bishops of Münster from the Plettenberg family. In tourist brochures it was nicknamed the Westphalian Versailles, although in appearance it is more reminiscent of the Dutch Het Loo.
After the secularization of the episcopal estates, the palace belonged to the princely families of Esterházy and Arenberg, until it was bought by the authorities of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1959. The brick building stands on a square-shaped artificial island, with garden pavilions at the corners. The regular park is decorated with Baroque statues, some of which were restored in the early years of the 20th century.
