The participants could be issued a ruggedized electronic notepad where instructions can be uploaded upon reaching checkpoints (e.g. QR codes) instead of printed text. The notepad can provide better instructions (such as video) on what is expected, e.g. many participants did not understand the instructions of the color puzzle, or expand the scope of the puzzles.
