Great video. I appreciate the history lesson on these great chairs. What was design like in Scandinavia before WWII? What led to this explosion of modern classics?

Thank's! Glad you found the video interesting. Well, before WWII design in Scandinavia was much about neoclassicism. In Sweden the 20's was an era of traditional overdecorated interiors, and the peak was probably the Swedish contribution to the 1925 Paris World's Fair. And then, in 1930, a great exhibition was held in Stockholm to promote functionalism and industrial mass production. In a way this was the breakthrough for modernism in Scandinavia, but it would take several years until the ideal spread to common people. Guess modern design exploded after WWII mainly for political and social reasons. Suddenly a large middle class demanded functional furniture for their newly built apartments.

I have a Hans Wagner shell chair. It is a master piece and looks great among the Herman Miller collection and isama nguchi. They dont make it like that anymore.
