In my eyes mma is not a system, it is created to compete, and sure it can be used for defensive tactics on the streets, but MMA in competition is bound by rules. Silat, and especially the Silat i train, is all about destruction of limbs, tendons, and bones, taking out an opponent as quick as possible, and then i don’t even go into the weaponry that is used in Silat, or other South East Asian martial arts. Silat was here centuries ago, and is tried and tested in real life battlefields, to each there own, but i prefer Silat.

my style is similar, attack to eyes are an integral part of the movement, in one motion, hand edge to the throat, broken arm etc. Not really suitable for sport but really viable in a self defense scenario!

Everyone finds their own path to protection, mine is Zenshin Aikijitsu. For me it is the perfect system of protection. Some find Silat to be that perfect system, other find MMA to be. Asked 100 people what is the best and you could very well get 100 different answers and they are all correct.

One Pride is one MMA organization that let Pencak Silat Warriors test themselves In full contact fighting, you can see over the years how the Pencak Silat fighters are improving in there punching , kicking and wrestling ( Harimau )

Just visit MP (Merpati Putih) in USA. Try to find out how they learn classic silat from Java. The Teachers were learned silat in java for many years. Find out their ability.

The oldest record, Pencak Silat first developed during the Srivijaya era, whose center was in the current Riau region. Then it continued to spread and continued to be preserved until the Majapahit era. Then it was revived after colonialism.

I have read story about Budhi Darma from India visit Bali to learn more about martial art. Very nice story but I dont get info where balinese martial art come from. Who the first spread it in Bali. And why Budhi Darma(indian) come to Bali to learn more about martial art, iis mean Bali is the best in that time. In that story Budhi Darma not dificult to defeat warrior in sumatera.

ancient silat with spiritual power is gone now ? I heard that in the past many people who practiced martial arts seemed to have spiritual abilities, such as being immune to being shot by bullets, because in that era there was colonialism , is that true ?

As @zenshinacademy4096 stated, it's about finding your own path for protection. One is not better than the other. Another key factor is having an instructor who know how to teach. I've dabbled in different styles (karate, kuk sool won, kung fu, and arnis/escrima). As an educator in higher ed, I can honestly say that none of my instructors knew how to transmit the information, let alone being patient. Nonetheless, I can appreciate both the beauty and lethality of those arts as well as any martial art style. In the end, you're going to flow with which you're comfortable. Comparisons are not always productive.

Silat should just full contact spar MMA style, punching to the face with gloves , take off the chest protection , don’t stop the clinch grappling or the ground grappling ( Harimau ) is important, you can also practice boxing , Muay Thai, Judo and wrestling training methods while perfecting Your Pencak Silat to improve the Punching , kicking and wrestlers ,, it doesn’t have to be MMA or Silat but maybe Silat can have fight in the cage with the MMA, this can only improve Future Silat.
